Not condoning it, but if we don't then USA, France, China or Russia steps in to fulfil that contract. Why not start by condemning the actual Saudis and hold them to account? The Argentinians used Exocet missiles against us in the Fawklands war to sink part of our fleet and we didn't directly blame the French. At some point you've got to stop being cautious and speak out against the nation.

I love this so much. The cutesy animation interspersed with clips of bombs and ruined houses. As well has how the walls finally drop for the character as she realises that underneath our happy facade of being innocent and polite and non threatening, Britain has been committing global atrocities out of site. And then at the end we see her finally take a mouthful of the food she’s been refusing, which I think symbolises her giving into the deception because she doesn’t really want to face the truth.

I love this song, but for a moment I need to talk about the music video! Holy hell! Ed did a great job of directing! From the mixture of animation, puppets and actual videos to the use of food and how as a society we are trying to be blinded. I’m in shock of how beautiful this piece is! I love it so damn much! This is definitely a representation of the propaganda we are all being fed without knowing (indicated by the "growing lad" eating up not seeing theres an issue or another way of thinking. Once the young girl stops eating she starts seeing the truth. (Death and destruction) followed by death creaping into the house which is quickly crushed by the mother offering answers to dismiss the young girls worries but she herself is a product of propaganda. The UK is involved in many wars via arms sales enabling mass genocides and wars. This is reinforced by the rememberance day section saying we will carry on anyway. Carry on spreading evil despite the losses suffered to defeat evil. Amazing lyrics and an even better music video to cement the ideology of the lyrics.

god this song really does capture that point in british kid life where the polite, reserved, endearing perception you had of your country really falls away and you learn about all of the terrible things its responsible for. its difficult to feel proud of a place that has had a hand in so many fucked up things

The song is almost 5 years old and its still relevant to the ongoing wars and genocides going on in the Middle East....that's super cool that McKenna is that culturally aware but also fucking heart breaking

To me this music video really captures the horror of growing up and becoming more aware of all the problems in the world, as well as how powerless we are to do anything about them

I think this is taking about The Yemeni war and also the Iraq war as well, as there was "killing with your hands tied", referring how British soldiers were having to follow orders when they didn't want to in Iraq. And "good old fasioned landslide" was definitely referring to the New Labour landslide election. I think it is talking about a lot of the wars in the middle east that Britain was a part of, including Yemen

I don't think a song like this is as necessary in America. Americans tend to be far more aware of their wars, sure, the US invading places with oil was memed to hell a while ago. The UK still, in the eyes of many, is seen as a peaceful and polite country, even though it's not any better than the US really.

Some don't even know that the so called "weapons of mass destruction" in Afghanistan did not exist and that we attacked the Taliban when Al Qaeda is responsible for 9/11. There are powerful politicians whom support regime change wars over diplomacy: that itself is enough reason for a song like this to be about the US.

This is genuinely a really good song. I'm once again thankful for YT recommending me something new and amazing.

I absolutely adore him not only for his musical talent but as a young person trying to use his influence to inspire activism and change...freaking incredible

all hail Queen Declan!

hearing how his voice changed made me feel like a nostalgic grandma meeting his grandson again after a very long time

this song perfectly captures the point in growing up when you start to become politically aware, and you realize your country is always at war, and the world is, and you can’t do anything. it’s a really good song though

This music video is LITTERALLY one of the best I’ve ever seen, it represents the song and the point of the song so perfectly and it’s just done SO WLL I CANT BELIEVE IT, this is one of my fav route songs ever and the music video was so perfect with all its artistry and symbolism ECT it gave me goosebumps

I love the fact that Declan one literally has no bad songs, and that you can relate to his songs on a political level as well as like a non political level.

A lot of comments abt the meaning of the song which is great but his voice here has so much power
