A fun bit of trivia found on IMDB about the atmosphere on set: 'According to Gillian Vigman, the main actors were unhappy on set. Kristin Chenoweth was still coping with her split from Aaron Sorkin, Danny DeVito flew in to film his scenes rather than interact with anyone, and Matthew Broderick could be found on set shaking his head in disbelief, repeatedly stating "I've hit rock bottom." Kristin Davis told her that she should have her eggs frozen. '

Plot: If any of the characters had filed proper charges against the other, the plot would have ended much easily at multiple points in the film: -Steve does go to file a proper complaint about the lights to the police, but leaves right as Sheriff Dave is grabbing the paperwork because he got uncomfortable looking at the Sheriff's thong. Alternatively, he could have reported the possible theft of power from his house. -Buddy could have charged Steve with willful destruction of property for short-circuiting his fusebox with snow. He doesn't due to wanting to get back at Steve personally. -Steve could have had Buddy arrested for Forging his name on a document and stealing the town's Christmas tree, but doesn't due to his pride blinding him as Buddy convinces him to make a wager on a race.

Troubled Production: This counts not due to external forces or Executive Meddling, but due to the four actors' personalities (Matthew Broderick, Danny Devito, Kristin Chenoweth and Kirsten Davis) reaching Dysfunction Junction levels. According to this episode of How Did This Get Made? Guest Andrea Savage's friend Gillian Vigman who was on set said that Broderick suffered a shoot long Heroic BSoD, and was frequently saying stuff along the lines of "I've hit rock bottom.", explaining his Dull Surprise performance, DeVito showing up to say his lines then hopping on the next plane out, Chenoweth, who'd just broken up with Aaron Sorkin spending everyday crying, and Davis saying to Vigman that "[She] should get [her] eggs frozen." It all makes for an uncomfortable, hilariously depressing story.
