Debunking Drake's Kendrick Lamar Sneaker Diss | The Complex Sneakers Show

Drake dissed Kendrick Lamar last week for being a “big stepper” with a size-7 men’s on, but it turns out the bar wasn’t actually factual. As the Rap War of 2024 now includes a footwear-related jab, co-hosts Joe La Puma, Brendan Dunne, and Matt Welty reacted to the line and also talk about the clarification, from sneaker store Rif LA, that Lamar is in fact a few sizes up from that. Also, the co-hosts discuss Nike’s Olympic rollout of its A.I.R. prototypes in Paris, the plan to have less Air Force 1s in the market, and just how good Anthony Edwards’ AE 1 is.

Thought I was the only one that thought this. Sometimes the guests are pretty entertaining but it’s something about hearing feedback from their retail days etc that just makes the episode a whole lot better

Sorry, but Brendan sounded like a Nike lapdog in this episode. The event was an absolute joke for a Nike Olympic year. The Pegasus premiums were nice and I might get a pair, but the tech is just rehashed and nothing revolutionary. The skate boarding shoes and break dancing shoes will be forgotten about. Finally, the A.I.R. shoes were nothing more than Nike taking those silly AI generated completely impractical future shoes that any random person can make with an AI program and 3D printing them and acting like they’re revolutionary. None of those shoes are practical or have a chance of ever being produced for consumers

Pegaus Premium def not revolutionary, but still a cool shoe. Feel like I said in here a few times that I wasn't totally convinced by what Nike had to offer, but I get that I'm going to be more enthusiastic than most since I was here.
Welty was a tough listen today… he needs a Debbie Downer edit

FTR the actual shoebox says "Military Blue." Nike done fooled y'all.
Love Welty, but this rap battle fact check was a huge L. He even misconstrues what a simile is, which is when you compare two things using like or as.
AE1 is great but the hoop shoe that should be on the top 10 list is the Sabrina shoe. First women's shoe really embraced by NBA and men's hoopers. Plus it is the best shoe to actually hoop in.
The AE Tie Dye looks very inspired by one of the Pharrell NMD Holi pack pairs (Pink Glow/Powder Dye).
14:55 Looks like a 2028 HyperFlight. Loved those shoes the moment I saw White Chocolate in them.
Thought all the A.I. driven concepts didn't have any Wow factor in them, but the Pegasus Premium though am quite impressed with the ZoomX/Air unit/ReactX foam used on this sneaker, it's basically the Nike Air Max that I always envisioned to be made. The SB PS8's looked a bit like those Tom Sachs General Purpose collab from 2023.

Dublin sneakerhead here, I wouldn’t wear the Union Jack reeboks, eg classics /club C personally, because of the Union Jack. Id wear the jjjound ones that don’t have the flag though . Definitely goes person to person and upbringing to upbringing/ family history though ☘️✔️ Just food for thought

Besides the sneakers, this podcast is good. You can literally see the back and forth disagreement but in a respectful way.

They actually ARE military blue... I was a huge proponent of "they're not called military blue because the color is actually industrial blue" and thought I was vindicated when we got the hydro IV slides in and the color was white/industrial blue (I'm a sneaker store mgr) but the 4s are in fact white/military blue

I agree with Matt, had Nike said we've got all these AI shoes and we've taken everything we've learnt to make this new shoe for the olympic year that you can buy right now and announced a new revolutionary shoe it'd land better. But by saying these are just prototypes that you can't use but you can buy a new pegasus that looks a lot like a Hoka Clifton just isn't right.
Union Jordan 1 Footscape most underrated sneaker of last year. Goes with everything, looks like a Jordan 1 but more interesting. If it came out in 2020, would have been a $600 shoe.
