I feel like the natural response to "why doesn't Wrigley's introduce this?" is something along the lines of "because they'd have to admit their product has been full of literal plastic for decades" 😅 Brands don't want to make moves that jeopardize their entrenched position.

And they get lazy. He even used the example of Heinekken. Also, they often feel it's easier to let the small guys prove proof of concept and then buy up because they're so lazy. I honestly think the Dragons were wrong and out of touch here, which is something I rarely think.

This dude is an absolute juggernaut
Original gum was natural resin from the Chicle tree. Then, due to environmental concerns, they made a synthetic version. Now, people are realizing that synthetic gum contains synthetic ingredients (shocker!) so they want a plant based version. Ironic?
@BenjaminGoose

And literally not a single one of them can explain why they don't want synthetic ingredients.

Watching this while having my cold drink with a plastic straw. Not paper with toxins in the glue.
Have a drink every time someone says "disrupt(ed)". You'll be comatose by the end.
I get this now and again from Co Op. it’s good stuff. I’d disagree on the barriers to entry. Virtually every shop or service station only stocks Extra and it’s clearly got a monopoly.
This guys gonna be sitting at the Dragons table one day...👍
He should of done some bubby gum with a magic trick and when the bubble burst loads of money came out! Now that would be a new one for the Den!
There is no way there is an entire straw worth of plastic in any piece of gum..
If I was a dragon I woulda given him a go, he seemed smart, couldn't fault his pitch, shame on the dragons.
I suppose the one reason others haven't done it is due to the shelf life of it?

Sustainability. It would totally break the demand-production curve, leading to incredibly high prices and would create a need for huge plantations, leading to deforestation and every ill aspect of intensive monoculture farming.
I am sure that his bussiness will successful 💯💥
Too many camera zooms!
Sometimes the Dragons get it wrong. Plant based products are in high demand.
Did they ask him about sales? Or was this presented before mass market launch?
Seems like a great product and he does very well, but he needs to work on his 'disappointed/annoyed' face at 8:44 if he doesn't want to offend other dragons. It was a rare lapse in an otherwise very good performance.
Regardless what this guy will be doing, he will be successful.
That was harsh considering how they got the nside information. And then told him to go on his own. What chance does he have. The public should get behind him with his business being plant based. Agricultural business and online sales being two big sources of assistance. I hope he does well. It is not over yet.
How is a plastic straw socially unacceptable? The replacement is horrible and plastic straws were removed from our industries without our consent and there has been no good alternative

Man, feel for the dude. But the dragons are probably right. It's crazy how much plastic people consume, on Joe Rogan's podcast he was saying how people are consuming a credit card worth of plastic a week! not a month or year, but a week! Crazy stuff.
Since when have plastic straws been banned? There everywhere here.
All you have to do is offer a big KZread ie pewdiepie, dude perfect, Mr beast etc a cut of profits in return for a mention on their channel over night it will be a massive hit selling 10s of millions just like that
£15 every 8 weeks on 2 pieces a day is an insane cost

@DennyJr22

50% margin, not profit. They have to cover all their expenses and overhead from that, of which there is an enormous amount. Wages, rent, utilities, insurance, spoilage/shrinkage etc. Most grocery stores run in the single digits of net profit margin percentage.
