Debating the Multichain End State: Service Providers vs Immutable Protocols | Bryan Pellegrino

Season 7 | Episode 4
In today's episode Mike and Hart are joined by Bryan Pellegrino, co-founder of LayerZero, to debate the the end state of the multi-chain future. They debate technical specifics like message passing protocols, bridging frameworks, censorship resistance, and security tradeoffs, as well as philosophies around infrastructure layers versus service providers, decentralization compromises, and application interoperability needs. The conversation explores modular versus monolithic architectures, native versus wrapped assets, batching transactions, the role of intermediaries, and more while aiming to find common ground on how blockchains and applications might interact at scale. Thanks for tuning in!

Very good episode and despite the conversation wasn't easy, I think that it was managed very well. Also glad to hear that everyone is trying to avoid wrapping assets. I am personally also a canonical tokens advocate.

great, great episode guys! Very respectful and interesting conversation, imho its pretty clear that LZ will be the foundational layer for the future interop space

Great episode. I don't see how Hart could argue that being an opinionated messaging layer is in anyway acceptable if we expect this technology to proliferate and survive far past our time

Look at how terrible ETH UX is compared to Solana - all thanks ETH not wanting to be opinionated. The space needs to stop being lousy. Taking an opinion to fit a market fit is more important than trying market itself as "unopinionated".

Beautiful discussion possibly completeely wrong: Layerzero seems akin to IBC Across seems to be like squid/axelar intents. Polygon cross chain zk state aggregation layer is incoming, initial asynch liquidity aggregation, then later synchronous atomic cross chain atomic composability(seems -problematic)

Nice, respectful conversation. My only complaint is Brian interrupts way too much…

by law monopoly Google should be forced to open its search algos to public. I wish some google engineer would wikileak algo search manipulation code. Google censorship = top three hits why censorship is neccessary. too much of this to be random, its bias. again, awesome episode.
