Deb & Stan Ames' SJR&P Garden Railroad
Ойын-сауық
I was blessed today with visiting the gorgeous, endless, and completely functional garden railroad of Deb and Stan Ames in Massachusetts.
It was rainy today, so not much operation was going on. However, all the track is used during their ops sessions.
The layout is rail-powered DCC-controlled, with stainless steel track. Stan has built many of the turnouts himself, including those for the dual gauge (F/Fn3) area toward the end of this video.
Amazing garden work and concrete work (mostly by Deb, I believe), and bridges and tunnels everywhere. What a treat to chat with them and tour their layout, rain or no rain!
-----------
A few notes, based on comments I've received:
1. This isn't my layout, it's the Ames'. You can look up their names with "garden railroad" and get more info.
2. The layout is designed and run for operations. Each weekend, teams of people get an engine, and assignments on where to pick up cars from and where each car needs to go. It's kinda an all-day thing, run by a dispatcher.
3. Each team consists of an engineer (with the remote control) and a conductor (with a walkie-talkie to the dispatcher).
4. Loco's are stored either in a shed (into which they just drive in) or in tunnels. Cars are left wherever they ended up, and generally stay there till the next op session.
5. The layout is entirely rail-powered, fed by 22v DCC and a Zimo DCC control system. Deb is the controls guru. Rail is stainless and rarely needs cleaning. Turnouts are hand-made by Stan.

WOW so big is a lovely layout thanks
Talk about elaborate, I'm speechless!!! And the amount of switching is way beyond. That layout must-have been a bear to lay out and make work !!! It's truly incredible!!! Big ass props to you!!! WOW!!!
Nice layout the scale to the naturel surroundings is very pleasant to see. Buildings could be very cool😅thanks for sharing
Awesome
Simply breathtaking
Wow, that's impressive. They have created a world of wonder there.
It is nice to have a lot of friends/club members who help with a layout this size ..
wow that is huge and awesome. lots of time
Beautiful. Enormous.
Layout very nice BUT very & very boring description plus slow movie. We want to see the trains moving not just show the layout.

Hi, and yes it sure is! The layout is located in Massachusetts, and they have regular operating sessions with many trains running. You can contact them through amherstrail dot org if you're interested.
fantastic
Когда Сити Скайлайн уже не хватает. Шикарно.
Nice video, LIKE.
Beautiful!! Strange that there seems to be a lot of single wagons in short sidings around the place??
Are LENZ controllers used for wired operation?
Nice. Ii just have one question...... Do you ever have any electrical issues with rain ?

Hi, thanks. It's not my layout, it belongs to the Ames. Stan manages the electrical, and has no problems. The stainless steel track sends power to the locomotives, and doesn't need much cleaning (if any). Each joint has a jumper wire soldered across (using a very hot iron). They've been running this layout for many years with this approach.
Which is the scale of the layout? Is it HO? How are try tracks maintain ? You mentioned DCC current aswell…how to keep all the wagons and locomotives away from the rain? Under some tunnels.?
Thats some train set. Gonna need track gangs
Intricate layout. Very impressive. Now can you send some trains?
