Death Valley Overland Expedition | When the Trail Becomes a Journey | Part 2

This is Part 2 of our #deathvalley #overland #expedition. In this episode we make our way from World Beater Cabin back down to Ballarat Ghost Town. From there we explore Barker Ranch, and more. For us, a trail really comes to life when you know its history. When you hear the stories and tales of those that took the trail before you. You get to imagine what it was like from their perspective and relive a moment in time. That is when a trail becomes a #journey.

    Love Death Valley! Have done the south area a couple times now in my Tacoma. The first time was on one leg due to a broken ankle and learned about Carl Mendel in the process. Ever since then I have a spiritual connection with the area. Spent the night in the Geologist Cabin last time on my birthday, glad I did due to the pounding wind. Did not know about Emmets cabin.

    Nice video, the A/T looks like luxury accommodation for certain. Sad to see the warm springs camp in such a mess. I worked in the valley for 3 years in the 80’s and the talc mine was still operating. Looks like the swimming pool got filled in from the flooding. I am a big fan of lower speeds = less dust and vehicle damage. In desert off-road driving keeping interval is important for better visibility and reaction time. I bent the tie rod on my 2nd pickup on a trip up one of the canyons, hit a washout about 18”” w x 10” deep , speed will mess up your day. Took me about an hour to pull it straighten it🫣, re install and get back underway. Gotta get back down there soon. 👍

    The tent is a great addition. Looks great deployed and folded up. Wow, lots of features inside the tent! That is what we really like about rv/camping… Can setup and sleep just about anywhere with enough space. When we went into the back country we found remains of very old cars. We were in a modern vehicle and it was still exciting driving out there. I am sure the roads were rougher back when those settlers and ranchers were driving back and forth in those old cars on the primitive roads. Very cool mine! Adventure! Fun! History! As always a great video. See you next time friends!

    Hi.. just watched your video… do you think Mengels Pass is doable in a Taco with 32in tires and approximately 10in clearance before I deflate tires. Appreciate your insight .. coming from WA state, any intel involving recent snow elevation would be great too. Planning a trip in that area in two weeks

  • @OpenRoad4Two

    @OpenRoad4Two

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for watching…We had 285/70r17 tires on our truck when we did the trail, roughly 32.5 inches and probably about 11 inches of clearance. One of the other Tacomas on trail with us had smaller tires and less clearance. Obviously clearance is only half the battle. Picking the appropriate lines is as equally important. There were some more capable Jeeps we encountered that decided to turn around. It’s very remote, so traveling with at least one other vehicle is extremely important. Haven’t been keeping up with snow in that area, so not much information to share with that. Hope this helps.
