Incoming 911 caller: hi, there is a woman walking on the main highway, in the middle of the road drinking coffee. Dispatcher: does she have curlers in her hair and is she wearing a night gown? Caller: yes that is all correct! Dispatcher: just leave her alone, let her finish her coffee, and she will be fine and return to her home on her own terms. Caller: your not going to do anything? Dispatcher: NO!, DO NOT APPROACH HER! Let her finish her coffee! She will turn on you if she does not have her coffee! She will return home on her own, always does. Caller: hmmm, have a good day!

I have lived in the Mojave desert over 50 years. Here's a few tips... 1. Get up really early, that's when its nice out. Even in summer, it might be in the 70's at 5 am and 100 by noon. 2. Shade helps a lot! 3 Drink tons of water, like quarts! It is so dry that the sweat dries immediately. You might not even know you are sweating but you are. 4. If you start early, you barely notice it getting hotter. You can get a lot done before it's too hot. But once you go in to cool off, it's very hard to go back out! 5. Wet bandannas around your neck help a lot. But they dry fast. So keep water handy to wet them.

We used to go to the hot springs there, all the time! It's grown quite a bit since I have been there. My Dad used to load us in the car on Friday night and just drive to cool places around Vegas and Death Valley, Utah and Arizona too. He played in a band, so we went a lot of places! They were "The Windjammers" and we're popular. They played I'm Searchlight, Laughlin, Ceder City, St. George, Overton, Kanab, Fredonia, too many to remember. Thank You for bringing back so many good memories for Me. I became paraplegic about 10 years ago and I can't travel like I used to. If I could walk, I would be going to these places. Maybe someday I will be able to again. I'm Finally adjusting to being this way. Love Your videos. I feel the same way about the desert and places there.

WoW!!! Your Sis is amazing!! I wasn't expecting a truly professional installation. Great job! Sis!! *One note of caution* : the connection on the porch may rip out that post. For example I just recently had my sail shade blow down due to a wind storm. It broke a 1200 lb Mastrant UV guy rope. 1200 pounds would rip out that post. So you may want to re-enforce the post connection to the beam that it is supporting. Perhaps bolt a piece of plate steel overlapping both the post and beam with four or six 3/8" or 1/2" bolts. And add hurricane clips to the rafters tying to the beam that they sit on. At least the ones near the sail shade attachment point.

  • @meanders9221

Sound advice! I too have had a shade sail act like a real sail in high winds and rip down a 6x6 post. Those professional looking connectors are probably stronger than the posts on the casita.

Yep Sarah your sis got that shade professionally rigged. I noted she has the cable clamps installed correctly: the saddles sit on the cable under tension as opposed to the 'dead' end - any rigger sill tell you to "never put a saddle on a dead horse" :)

Hi Sarah, been missing you and your videos. Life happens. Must get caught up! Nice little community you are a part of. High fives to those dedicated First Responder volunteers. That's a nice canopy your sis put up but I'm concerned about your winds and the wind loading on the fabric. Especially the anchor on the porch 4x4 timber. That large square footage of canvas might create a lot of force on that one porch timber. Out here in Southern Colorado prairies a lot of anchored trampolines become airborne in our 50+ mph winds. Just be cautious and aware when the winds kick up. Much love to you and your sis, Sarah😉❤🙏👍

If you have those high winds don t anchor it to the buildings !!!! Dig a hole 6 or 8 feet deep and put in a piece of telephone pole or pipe to anchor to. You don't know how the house was built and even if it is well built the constant jerking on it by the tarp will take a toll on the building.!!!

I love the desert. Always did. The shortage of water makes it a no go to move there. Great video.

Love you Valley Girl! Every time I see you out in the sunshine, my mind’s soundtrack plays Gale Garnett’s “We’ll sing in the sunshine”. “We'll sing in the sunshine We'll laugh every day We'll sing in the sunshine And I'll be on my way…”. Really enjoy your vlog visits!

I would almost be interested but Im retired out of a fire department.... I wouldn't mind helping out if I ever get down there... Im for sure going to have to check it out because I need a warm place in the winter with a wonderful hot springs area.... I would love a place where I can just relax, eat, sleep and walk around looking at things....

Your face is cracking and I love it. So cute. For some reason I thought you lived in the mid of nowhere by yourself with no services around. Good to know you do have a little town around you.

Gotta love Bentonite SPF 1000 sunscreen, with art highlights (the cracks tan), in a small town road. Tecopa was our kind of town too and we always stopped there on the way back and forth from home & moms. Something about hot water kept us in the far corner of Nevada. Gotta go cook desserts for the annual Steak Feed / Roping in Denio.

Interesting community you have there... I love that you can come as you are to just about anywhere in town. We also just put up some shade cloth along the back of the house. Looks like your connections are better than ours. Have a great week and see ya in the next video.

i'm glad you're still able to treat your face w/the bebtonite clay!! have a great day, wonderhussy. i love the june calender display. when you showed those mannequin heads & talked about the 'art project' somebody's going to do i immediately envisioned the 'Poetry of America' canvas by salvador dali'. make of that what you will. i picture that as an entrance to your compound . . .

Always love an extra, unexpected tale from bohemian Wonderhussy central :-) Cool to see that your sis addressed the shading of the courtyard, but I kinda have a feeling that the anchor-point on that wooden post might be a weak point in the whole construction, especially if you take into consideration (as you mentioned) how hard the wind can blow in your erea; it'll create some crazy loads on that poor piece of wood.

I live in a weird little town (Carlin, Nevada) out in the desert, too! It takes a different sort of cat to want to live out here-so that's who you meet in little towns out in the desert. I worked in the local grocery and seeing women in a housecoat and curlers early in the morning was a usual thing. We put in a coffee machine "as a public service." We still don't have a stop light.
