Here's one SEGA Saturn fan may remember, the Xbox 360 game called Death Tank is the third game in the series. The first two were produced by Lobotomy Software and included as hidden games on their Saturn ports of PowerSlave and Duke Nukem 3D (it should be noted the PAL release of Exhumed was missing the game). The games were simple arcade shooters which saw you driving a tank left and right, while trying to successfully hit the opposing players. This third instalment was created by Ezra Dreisbach, a former employee from Lobotomy Software.
You have a cannon that you have to manually set up the direction and distance of the shot. Which in the heat of battle can make things a little tricky. The concept of the game seems to be related back to the early home computers, we have seen a couple of old PD games using a format like this in the past, but the 1991 PC game Scorched Earth, may well be one the games that helped inspire it.
Unlike the original multiplayer only mini-game this one features a couple of single player modes in the form of a 20 round tournament against 3 other tanks or an arcade mode which has you take on wave after wave of foes to see how long you last for. While it doesn't have as much content as it could do, the content is all death match related so there is nothing like a mission or challenge mode in the game.
This is an Xbox 360 exclusive release and come the server shutdown this is one that will be lost for good. It's a fun little arcade game with support for four player matches, but one that disappoints in some areas Death Tank Zewi on Saturn supported up to seven players on screen and as a result this one feels a little underwhelming as a result. As seven player battles were just crazy. Online and offline multiplayer is full present and if you can get four friends together this is a great blast. If you remember the original SEGA Saturn game this is worth a look.
