@@storystimmler Rivalry can get pretty intimate, there is a grey area between wanting to spend time thinking about wanting to defeat them and wanting them. That’s where all the shipping happens. To most people they learn more about someone to get to know them on a more personal level, while a combative rival will want the same knowledge to defeat the other. I’m not immune to that effect as part of me wants to see a rivalry between enemies slowly thaw into a mutual understanding and friendship. I think it’s an interesting possibility that the rivals find a way to see the other that isn’t antagonistic, but in this case it is impossible because they aren’t friendly rivals. One of them has a murder notebook that he is more than happy to use to proclaim himself a god as he spirals into insanity and delusional grandeur. Knowing when to hold back the shipping instinct is a skill lots of people don’t have.

Analysis time: Alright it's also my favorite line simply because it implies that not only do they wanna win they're enjoying the game they are playing. They want to win but they also love that the other outsmarts them, admiring each others intellect because as far as they know they're the smartest ones. Sort of like the adrenaline you get when you're robbing a bank (note: I do not rob banks ), this is an example but remember when you sometimes day dream robbing a bank but you're not in it for the money? you're doing it for the rush and it makes you feel powerful but at the same time you don't wanna go to jail so you just don't rob banks

One thing I’ve noticed is in L and Light’s past duets there’s different patterns they have within the song, making them different and showing their different moods and instruments to back their respective lyrics. However in this duet they have the same notes, same instruments, same lyrics. At some points even finishing each other’s sentences, as if they’ve given up any individuality or personal life for this game, this chess match they’ve bet their lives on. The only time you can hear them split apart? The very end. I dunno, just a thought.

I didn't expected it to be that homoerotic lmao but, jokes aside, this song explains their relationship really well. there is a thin line between hatred and infatuation and they slowly crossed that line

I never understood the whole L x Light thing, but.... there is no straight explanation for this, like, I'm trying but I can't find one, which honestly makes it so much better in my opinion, it shows just how strong the tension is. This entire musical is not only so perfect for Death Note, but I can't stop thinking of Persona 5 either, especially with the Light vs. L duets. Both pairs are so caught up in each other's game they don't even see how their own pieces are moving. The only bad thing about them being a couple is they wouldn’t have much in common, like their differences are what attracts them to each other, but at the same time if you want to get into a relationship with someone, you should have similarities with them too, to make sure you’re one the same page with them. Also I know they aren’t in a relationship with each other but still.

Okay but there's this line they both sing, "I look through his eyes and see what he sees". Then, when Rem is singing When Love Comes/Foolish Love, she sings "When love comes it takes you by surprise, you see things through someone else's eyes". And the same people wrote both songs, with these lyrics, and I have no heterosexual explanation for this

I just thought about the fact that L and Light have A LOT of duets in this musical, whereas Light only sings with Misa in one song? And that's Stalemate, where she's more in the background, since Light is once again actually singing with L, and he doesn't even know Misa is the other Kira at that point. This really underscores how Misa, to Light, is just someone he uses, not someone he actually cares about, whereas his relationship with L is that of a competitive race while they both also see each other as equals, something both of them find unique with the other.

I first heard that this was a musical. I never realized that it was a tv show until one day I passed my sister watching something on the computer, and I asked her what she was watching. She said it was Death Note. I got all excited and she asked me if I wanted to watch and I said yes. She showed me the very first episode and I got really interested. I finished the series just a few hours before it got taken off Netflix. I absolutely loved it. Now we've just finished watching the musical and it was WAY different than it was in the series. My favorite songs are Where Is The Justice, Hurricane, Stalemate and I'll Only Love You More.

I love the fact that in most, if not all, of their duets, L is the one that starts the song, but here, a song about getting in the other's head, light starts

The instrumentals in this musical are about the best I have ever heard before! Though I am still clinging to that love for that guitar in Pitiful Children... As for these songs it is the drums that catch me!

Okay okay okay. So this is for a different fandom from deathnote. So as some may know Jeremy Jordan plays Varian in the show Tangled the series. Well a storyboard artist (Kritterart) created an au (that was sadly turned down by Disney) called Varian and the seven kingdoms. One of the characters being Hugo. Not only does this give me their vibes but Kritterart told us who her voice claims for the characters are. The voice claim for Hugo is Jarrod Spector who guess what, plays L in this song.

So I wanna point out.. throughout the musical, whenever light and l sing at the same time, light always keeps the base melody while l moves up. When l moves up, it makes him sound more invested (especially in the " 'till I see the forest not just the trees" line) and I was wondering.. is this because l recognizes that Kira is a true threat and is fully invested in catching him while light isn't as entirely invested because he's arrogant and thinks he's got it down?

thats a good point maybe its also that light has brought himself low by becoming that which he condemned at the beginning, thus why he stays in a lower register. and, even though L is literally singing the same tune and has played quite a few dirty tricks in order to draw kira out, L can /technically/ claim to be on the moral high road because he hasn’t killed anyone himself, thus claiming the higher register
