    And yet, it’s not Soichiro’s line. It’s the line between correct deductions and poorly-thought-out conclusions. L and Light both lack the lines Soichiro champions. Notice that Soichiro doesn’t share their lyric about the line blurring, it’s never in question for him. The boys are already so far gone. Soichiro even says that L has no moral code. L and Light never cared about who got hurt, they never had moral lines, all they wanted was the answers and victory they sought.

    I love the way this song represents Light and L. They are almost too similar to one another, that becoming quite clear in the line “I don’t care who gets hurt now as long as I get one more shot”. I know that often L is idolized by the characters in the plot, but in the end, he himself acknowledged that he is very similar to Kira. He called himself a lying monster for a reason. The song really captures how both characters are just two sides of the same coin, both seeking justice and it’s AMAZING!!!

    I don't know if this is true, but I did hear that his son had to convince him to do it. Apparently he said it would be "the coolest thing you'll ever do." That suggests to me he probably didn't even know what Death Note was, but brushed up to work on this. It's not a love of Death Note, it's raw professionalism- the wherewithal to bring nothing less than the whole ass to any and every project.

    "I'll rid the world of any criminal who wants to play and I'll also rid the world of anybody who gets in my way". I love that line from Light because the first half of that sentence shows his initial intentions due to which he started using the Death Note based on his innate need for justice - to punish the criminals that otherwise go unpunished by the law. The second part, however, reveals how he got so twisted along the way, so engulfed in his godlike power that it is not only criminals he is willing to kill now, but anyone who dares to stop him from making his new world a reality. It's as if the first half is sung by Light and the second one - by Kira.

  • @janniswildermuth1499

    @janniswildermuth1499

    7 ай бұрын

    I agree the song is awesome but I think people often give Light too much credit for how he started using the Death Note. He started out writing the first name as well as the second more as a test than anything else. Afterwards he immediately went on a killing spree, but not of criminals that went unpunished, he mostly killed criminals who were either in detention or had already been convicted. Remember that he got the information for most of his early victims from the internet and TV, where information on criminals is usually made public after they have been caught already. The number of criminals he killed during ongoing crimes (like the one holding children hostage right at the start) are surely not zero, but the overwhelming majority of his victims were criminals who either already had been or would soon be judged by the law. Now this could still work for him following a sense of justice, if he then waited and only killed those who successfully plead lower crimes or got set free again, but he doesn't. It's explicitly stated that he killed criminals on death row for his experiments. These people were already going to be executed by the state, so him killing them cannot be out of a sense of justice to right a wrong. He also doesn't hesitate a second to kill an (from his perspective) innocent man, Lind L. Taylor. If we assume that he started out with a strong sense of justice (although a warped one), he would not have slipped off it so much as fell from Mount Everest in a heartbeat the first chance his morals were challenged. I see the story a lot more as a cautionary tale of what can happen when individuals with a missing sense of morality gain access to power, rather than a faustian bargain dragging the participant into the abyss. I'm not saying that reading can't work at all, because he does definitely get more callous as time goes on, but I think a lot of people see his starting point somewhat like a misguided romantic trying to serve justice but failing, rather than a sociopath who completely flipped out the second he got concrete power to hold over others.

    I like the line "why give away half of my years to see somebody's name?" Light dies at the end of the musical, specifically because he learned L's name, killed the only person really standing in the way of his plan, and because of this ryuk gets bored and writes his name down. This song takes place at the halfway mark, meaning that if he had asked for L's name and killed him, ryuk probably would have killed him here and the "half the life you have left" is accurate

The duets in this musical are so utterly on point. And this song shows how Light's moral line has begun to shift, and how he has already begun to become corrupted by the power he holds.

    I can't believe I only just thought about this despite being a fan of the musical for years, but in L and Light's duets, L tends to sing higher compared to Light who sings lower in contrast. It's most likely just a musical choice and I'm probably overthinking it, but since they've always been opposites of each other even in religious symbolism; Heaven and Hell, Angel and Devil, I wonder if making L sing higher in their duets was like making him seem higher, closer to Heaven, and vice versa for Light. A commenter has pointed out that as the musical progresses, it gets harder to distinguish their voices in their duets. Ofc if you pay really close attention, you can still hear the higher voice of L and the lower voice of Light, showing how they're so alike, just on opposite ends. Two sides of the same coin.

    "How can I ever be at ease with L? His methods lack a moral code. And as for Kira, he can go to Hell, taking L along down this dark and evil road!" I like to interpret this line as Soichiro being concerned that Kira is corrupting L, pushing him to stray further away from his already questionable morals. And he is onto something, as the measures L takes throughout the show sure escalate as the case goes on. As he himself put it, he hates losing, and a stalemate is for all intents and purposes like a win for Kira.

    My fav lyric is "I don't care who gets hurt now, as long as I get one more shot!" It really shows how both of them are right in some way, but wrong in another. Light's morally "right" but his ways are "wrong" L has no "proper" morals, but what he's doing is "right" Also Soichiro's lines prove that he deems none of them right.

  • @nataliaborys1554

    @nataliaborys1554

    It's one of the things that make Death Note so interesting, it has no real straight-up heroes who actually make moves in this "game". Soichiro is probably the closest we get to one, but what that gets him most of the time is being morally conflicted, since on one hand he doesn't agree with L, but also he can't think of a better way and stopping Kira is a good thing so. L is more of an anti-hero. He does good things (solving cases, stopping Kira) for selfish reasons (pride and personal amusement) and using questionable methods. Light is a sympathetic villain, who has a noble goal at heart (cleansing the world of all crime) but his methods are evil (murder). Misa is also more of a villain. She does bad things (murder) for selfish reasons (get Kira to like her). Although with her you could also argue that she was taken advantage of by Kira, so I wouldn't classify her as the pure evil strain either. So basically, no character is perfect, and that makes the show very interesting.

But Light, he has no other data, refusing the offer of Shinigami Eyes. He has a whole other game, the Death Note. And this refusal of a cheat in the game is what leads to his demise, by learning L’s name of his own volition!
