after all the decades , dear prudence is still a super song and extremely tricky to play but challenging. john lennon truly a genius with paul , george , and ringo adding their geniuses together.

This is a great kickstart to the song. I printed out the 6 pages from ultimate guitar and I was moving through it ok, but I wasn't using my thumb in that pattern and it was clunky. This is real nice style, like a banjo roll. Love it, thanks for sharing!

Aargh!!! I keep thumbing the A string before the D, then using the D string as the 'start'. (A,D,E,A,D,E - instead of A,D,E,D,A,D,E,D etc) Driving me crazy, but Its coming to me :-) Thanks very much Brian for this no nonsense lesson.

the 2 words ending this video were much needed learning this picking pattern. But the lesson earned you a nickname. "The RabuseMeister".

Great video. Would it be ok to simultaneously pluck the low E string (tuned down to D) and the B string? That's unfortunately the way I learned it, incorrectly by ear. It doesn't seem to make a huge difference to the sound though versus your pattern of low E before B. Would like to hear your thoughts.

I'd submit that if you're doing your own version, you can do it any way you want as long as it makes you happy. I'd love to hear your version Ronan!

Who played this on the album George?

John played it on an Epiphone Casino. George did all the licks but I'm not sure what guitar he used.

Thank you for the comment Dennis. I never expected this many views on this video. I used my phone and did it in one take with no edits for a student of mine. In future recordings, I;ll try to get the whole guitar in the frame, but I thought it was important to focus on the right hand when working on the right hand, and left when talking about that. A split screen would be ideal, but it was a one and done vid.

Record louder please. Nice drop D advice. Please adjust your volume. The thumb notes are similar to the Jeopardy question song in cadence but lower octaves.

Thanks J. It's an acoustic and I recorded it on my phone. Next time I'll make sure I record the audio separately so I can boost the level. Not a lot I can do at this point as my voice and guitar are the one and only audio track. Glad you liked it!
