My friend's life ended last year, both of us promised to graduate together, travel together, and tp achieve our dreams together. She always loved IU and she told me to sing for her wedding in the future and it should be IU's song. I'd never imagined that i will sing this song on her funeral, my heart still feels heavy. She had many plans on her life, she's very cheerful, friendly and fun to be with, and now i can't see that smile again. "To my friend who is now in Heaven, i'm sorry i can't sing to your wedding instead i sang on the day you finally rest." Thank you IU for being an inspiration and motivation for her to keep going, the accident took her life yet i'm relieved that she's not in pain anymore.

There are many good things that has been happening in my life and one of it is that i passed the entrance exam of my dream university and i really appreciate all of this messages as it been my pillar of strength to go on.🥰🥰

So, let me see if I got this right... This song is about being lost, and the name she's calling is her own name, but she doesn't even know who she is, and she even forgot her own dreams, so even if she calls out her own name, she can't find herself. That's why the kid runs away from her, right??? And then she reminds her name and dream, which means she found her way again, so she says she'll shout many times to not forget who she is again, right?? At first I thought this was about mourning someone, second I thought a breakup, then the "wish disappeared" came and I was like... maybe it's herself... Well, I guess we can interpret this differently. But for me this meaning is actually the one I identify the most right now, so I'll stick with it.

Especially since everyone, except close friends call her by her stage name, but in “Palette” which is in the same album, G-Dragon refers to her by her real name, Jieun. I think this song hints about her getting lost as “IU” that she’s forgotten about Jieun. But as she matures and grows, she’s finding who she really is again and that childlike innocence that held her dreams

I think this song is delicated to the sewol accident that happened at that time. iirc She wrote this song i memory of all the people that left.

Whoa IU has such an amazing voice. Not only is this difficult to sing because of how there's consistently sings high notes along with a controlled vibrato, but to make it sound so effortless, beautiful, and full of emotion is really breath taking. I hope that one day I'll be able to sing even half as good as her >.

No matter how many times I listen to this song, I can't stop tearing up. I was a mess when she sang this during the concert. It's a hopeful song for me. About finding myself, my lost dreams and aspirations. And myself, the name and voice in me that I lost due to circumstances and growing up. I believe my thoughts of society and what they think of me caused me to stop listening to that voice and I lost my name in that. But slowly, step by step I'm finding myself, my voice and my name (metaphorically of course). I hope you find yours too. She was also extremely close to Jonghyun (Shinee), who committed suicide two years ago - they were so close he gave her his song Gloomy Clock. Heechul and Taeyeon were also close to all 3 😣

Sometimes I would wonder why many likes IU’s songs to be covered that everytime I see a K idol covering a song, it would always be IU. Once I hear her voice and the composition of her songs, it is very soft and heartwarming that you can feel how she emotionally delivers her music. Whenever you listen to her, it’s like she wants you to know the real message on what she’s trying to sing. IU is very unique, and when I was immature as an ARMY at first I even hated her for being Jungkook’s role model instead of something else and even pairing him and her up. From then on, listening to her songs had already found an answer. Even I had fallen for her sweet voice. She is amazing, truly.

This song Dear Name is dedicated to Sewol Ferry Tragedy victims and survivors, for those who are asking. That's why it is titled Dear "Name". As lyrics said "I Find your name that had beed Forgotten Quietly, I wont stop, I'll shout several times Even if it's unbelievably Far". This is why when IU perforrmed it on year end award most artists cried.

I hate how this song is so currently in sync with everything I feel and go through right now. how everything is misty and without me ever knowing it, I have lost my self along the way. I have been trying to find her all this time... Shouting her name over and over again hoping to find her but the only thing that answers me is the echo of my own voice. I am lost and overwhelmed and burnt out and I don't know who to talk to because I am supposed to be the strong one and I was but even that, I lost. And now... This song is one of the few things that keeps me grounded.
