    Tyler you are so awesome I always agree with what you have to say Tyler can I tell you about which one I would like to see. I would like to see the Gibson eb-1 come back the violin one I would love to have one of them. I'm thinking about buying the Eastwood EB one which is a pretty accurate takeoff the real Gibson eb1 usually starts for about 4,000 and up which is kind of hard for me to come up with at the moment. Anyway you're the best Tyler thanks for all your hard work

    I would love to have an EB Bass in that Bouillon Gold finish--those humbucking pickups with the coil tap seem to make for a workhorse of a bass.

    My main bass in the 1970s was a Gibson Ripper. Between the presence control and the “veritone” four position rotary control there were actually several very useful tones unlike the EB series. The neck was very comfortable. Unfortunately the bass basically just kind of fell apart. Gibson was making a lot of junk including their guitars at that time.

    The falling apart bit seems to be a trend… there are fewer and fewer out there. Some new, better made ones would definitely be appreciated! 👀 T

    I once borrowed a Gibson EB-2 whilst my own bass (a Fender Precision) was being refurbished. A totally different feel and sound to the Fender but I felt at home on it right away and fell in love with it. I really wish Gibson would bring it back or failing that a top spec Epiphone Rivoli would do!

    I haven't had interest in the Ripper/Grabber/G3 line, when I could have them for cheap. The G3 has the best tone of them. I always loved to have a Victory Artist. I never liked the slanted pickup arrangement though. I have a Q-80 Bass, I wish that one had a maple body instead of a mahogany body. I also have a 1978 RD Artist, which sounds great. Nowadays I like the looks of the Victory/Q80 better. I'd love a mix of those basses. A maple body Q-80, bolt-on maple neck, ebony or maple board, G3 pickups and electronics, headstock of the Victory, but curvy as on the guitar model. Schaller 3D4 bridge, Schaller M4 tuning keys. Colors in vintage cherryburst, natural, black, vintage white, pelham blue, candy red, some kind of surf green. Hardware in chrome, gold and black

    My first bass was a Grabber in 1975. Swapped it for a G3. Great sound, funky ergonomics. But, I think if you want something "cool and different" that pays tribute to those basses, check out Serek basses, especially the Lincoln. I bought one this year and it is so cool and a definite nod to the Grabber/Ripper family. Beautifully made, cool looking, great ergonomics and super tones, especially with flats. Check it out!

    My first bass was a '74 Grabber and I still have it. The neck is thin and very "Jazz" like and not chunky like a P-bass. I replaced the original PU with a EMG to get rid of the muddiness; I still have the original though. I also had the neck repaired after an unfortunate truss rod incident and now it is just awesome. I do play it occasionally, but it doesn't fit in my current band. I'd love a G-3 though.

  • @chriscuthbertson
    @chriscuthbertson Жыл бұрын

    Gibson had an opportunity to do something great with the Tobias brand, but they just let it die. It feels like Gibson just do the bare minimum when it comes to bass.

  • @TylerSpicer

    @TylerSpicer

    Жыл бұрын

    Definitely! It would have been cool to see them really take it and run with it, rather than make lower cost copies - that’s not really what any Tobias bass was designed to be. The brand name has the ability to compete with Fender, they just need to commit to having something that’s somewhat traditional, but can also produce a versatile range of tones!

    I find it interesting that these basses, particularly the grabber, have a lot of "Rick Turnerisms" and I had assumed that these basses were in production during his short time at Gibson. They preceded that time, however, which is interesting. If you like these basses then you should check out Rick's Electroline basses. They probably have a lot of the features that you are looking for. Sadly Rick left us this year, but his production line lives on. As does his legacy of innovation and commitment to quality.
