I once was the ugly duckling...but now I'm a beautiful black swam
This just made me proud of my melanin
I been tryna find the exact words so that I can use it as the opening of one of my short waiting’s but I cannot find it. Literally the best poem that I’ve heard in a longggg while. Almost had me in literal tears.
I’m Dominican and my mom is a very white Dominican but I’m dark skin and when I was little all I could think about is how much I wanted to be white and not black but now it’s very different

I found this on tiktok watching a natural hair video and nearly died when the second I pressed search my Internet went out. Luckily it was out for just a split second. My room would be the room with the worst connection.
I felt this as i watched this episode #Youareverything!
I’m over here in tears. I used to hate my skin thinking I was too black the whites would never want me but I’m too light so the blacks made fun of me but you’re right. I AM BEAUTIFUL! We all are. Every last shade of chocolate.
This is so beautiful. Every single woman is beautiful. Never let anyone make you think that’s not true. Especially because of the colour of your skin. Black Lives Matter and black women are stunning.
The chills I felt when I first saw this! EVERYTHING!
I felt every single word 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾💯💯✊🏾✊🏾
Tears!!! And more tears! Just seeing this episode and I’ve rewinded 5 times and am constantly crying. This is fire!! I need a t shirt and a recording as a ringtone lol
This is such a moving, soul grabbing spoken word and performance. I appreciate women like you. I have such goddesses to look up to.

Growing up as a kid I hated my dark skin And if I could be transparent Even now as a grown woman I have to constantly reprogram my Thinking Years of being told I was not the standard for beauty But see that, was a lie Which is why I chose to rewrite my own narrative Dear. Black. Girl We Are warriors whose Spirits can't be crushed We speak up when told we're too much We forgive when our black men dismiss Degrade and can't see that We are not The ugly ducklings BUT The swan princess The Nubian goddess The reflection of our ancestors The made in his image When society tries to pin light v dark Skin We remind them that every shade of chocolate is divinely crafted Black Girl magic is more than a hashtag It is a movement A statement Like Maxine waters Reclaiming Our power moving Through this world unapologetically Degree holding with our heads held high Melanin moisturized Big hips Thick thighs Hair free and natural Wrapped in a protective style Dear black girl You Better recognize We Are the Trailblazers Please correct it if wrong.

Everybody wants to be us So to all my sisters As we continue this process of loving our skin Start with this Look at yourself in the mirror This Is Me The chocolate beauty Deserving And saying I AM Queen The dear black girl know That you You Are everything
God this makes me emotional
I literally cried watching this. It is so beautiful, I cannot wait to share this with my daughter. I try every single day to remind her you are beautiful you are everything.
I've balled about 3 times, because this is exactly what I needed to know as a kiddo. I'm speechless. More than beautiful...this is power.
This scene!! Ohhhhh this scene was EVERYTHING!!!
I’m in tears this is beautiful

JUST SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL, SELF LOVE IS EVERYTHING VITAL FOR OUR SANITY, MAMA ALWAYS USE TO SAY THE BLACKER THE BERRY THE SWEETER THE JUICE.
BLACK…GOLD
From the words, the stomps, the passion, the focus, the attire, the conviction. Like I don't even know how it's hard to love us at this point. I need to attend one course on "why we hate them so much and how to make it feel real."
this is probably one of the best moments of the whole series, what a beauty
Beautiful! Powerful! Inspirational! True!! I 🖤 THIS.
Came across a snippet of this on Instagram some time ago and I felt seen ❤️ it’s been on my mind ever since! Glad to have finally found the whole video! Thank you 🙏🏽
Keep on standing up for us...God bless you guys.
I had to come find this after hearing it as background sound for a Bantu Knot tutorial. My soul haven't been spoken to like this since I saw Kai Davis "Fuck I Look Like" spoken word. This hits hard!

Omg...wow... this needs more views 🙌🏽 I want to collaborate and write with yall because as a poet and someone who grew up in the Deep South, a gay black man in a society and household that often made me feel less than... I can relate in some way. Colorism is a fight beyond racism. I have made it my mission to truly uplift black women in all shades "beautiful bold and bronze crowned in black gold"! ❤️ Maya Angelou is my greatest influence and whether it be song, spoken word or a poem... I truly believe your passion could bring life to my words 🙏🏽
This made me cry 😭
Powerful
When I was younger I always said I wanted to marry a white man not saying there’s anything wrong with that but I said it because I was ashamed of being black I use to wish my skin was light and I always straightened my hair damn near damaging it, when I went to school with braids I felt embarrassed around the other white kids and I still feel this every now and then. I was in a relationship with a white guy and I always felt like “why was he with me? A black girl”. It’s not rare that black girls feel this way, and that’s crazy I don’t think other races truly understand how African Americans especially black women feel/felt on the inside out themselves
Yassssss 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sending this one to my niece she writes ✍ a lot of poetry maybe this will encourage her to post some videos
why dis make me cry doe
