her top was most definitely chosen on purpose. showing the black and white, the ying and yang, the good and bad coexisting inside ginny. And probably also how she is caught between black and white people, belonging to neither of them and struggling with being a woman of color which her white mom could never understand. Or maybe I'm just reading way too much into it ahaha

@Sagarika Mohapatra I don't necessarily agree. I think we can all agree that Georgia was a questionable character at some points but overall an amazing mom. However, just because you have an amazing parent doesn't mean that they're meant for you. Sometimes you just clash and you'll never be able to to see eye to eye or see the sacrifices you made for each other. It's like water and oil, both are amazing and are needed but for different purpose and neither one of them will be able to mix.

She people looking at it from an outside perspective. Try to put yourself in Ginny shoes, finding out your mother murder people and is hiding all these secrets, always moving and never knowing the reason why. Yes she did it for them and they understand that but she doesn’t realize how it harms them and didn’t really try to understand until recently.

I think we all want to paint characters, and people, in broad strokes of good and bad. One harsh poem doesn't mean Ginny doesn't acknowledge all the good and love Georgia gave her. But all that love and sacrifice doesn't mean that Ginny wasn't hurt by certain things Georgia did and said, or didn't do or say. I think this scene, and show, is beautiful because it's not about trying to make it through life always being in the right, but rather about having enough love to heal yourself and each other when we all inevitably make mistakes. Ginny is allowed to have her pain heard without denying that Georgia is a good mother. Good parents aren't those who never cause their children pain. Good parents take responsibility for the pain they've caused and try to make up for it.

You're only seeing the good side of her. now let me point you out her bad side. 1) She is Immature, she is a grown ass woman who should know how to act Ex: When she threw all the food away when she could have just hid them 2) she doesn't allow her kids therapy, after all she has done to traumatised them and all the signs they showed they need therapy. It's one of the reasons why Ginny is struggling because she needs therapy 3)Georgia never disciplines her kids, Why do u think Ginny is so rude to her mom? Because she was never taught discipline. 4)She let's dangerous men into her life. The main example is Kenny and gill. Which puts her kids in danger 5) Georgia is a bad influence, She taught her kids to always run away from her problems which Is not good and etc which makes Ginny not want to be like georgia but she is slowly becoming like her. Georgia is definitely not someone who u would want as a mom. People are only willing to see the glamourous side of her being some sort of savior and praise her every time but if u actually had a mother like her then u would be extremely depressed.

Am I too old to hide under the bed? I'm stuck in a storm But the storm's in my head All I see is lightning All I hear is thunder Just one boom coming one after the other I once was blind, but now I see The blindfolds folds have unfolded from me But try as I might to close my eyes And shut them tight and go back to black To not knowing, to trust Because now that I know I know what I must do for you What you've made me be And I'd give anything to wash it away Scrub and scrub that damn spot out But you can't wash off a tattoo Because now, you see, I'm culpable too I gnash and gnarl and gnaw until I'm raw My vocal cords vibrating With vicious and vital truths That I need to speak That you need to hear My tongue undulating With the undue burden of silence But the sound chokes back into my throat A hard swollen lump I swallow down They say mother knows best But what if there are things Mother doesn't know? Like if she can braid your hair But still stans Scarlett O'Hara You always say I am your reflection But I can't hide behind your smile And from where I'm standing We're on opposite sides of mirrored glass Me and you against the world? But the world is out to get me In ways you can never know or feel So how can you know it's real? I am sick of suffering in silence Today, I will stomp and scream and shout Until every word inside of me is out Just by knowing, by seeing That was my agreeing My hands wet, once clean Dirty with sins I don't mean Words I didn't say, dragons I didn't slay I inherit the sin And I become the monster That I was born from

And yes I’m georgias head she was trying to protect her but Ginny was a kid. And she had to protect her mom from a crime that she didn’t even ask for. For something that she didn’t expect. You have to understand that Ginny grew up with her mother. Someone she knows to be gentle and caring and sweet. Like a mother would be. But then to wake up one day and realize she killed someone ? She’s feel like her mothers a stranger. Someone she didn’t know and yes she’s struggling to understand the reason but neither Ginny nor Georgia is in the right or wrong here. They are people. And sometimes things aren’t so black and white. Reality lies in the grey and for you to completely ignore Ginny’s or georgias feelings in this situation is utter stupidity.

some of you including georgia don't understand that the poem was a literal cry for help. the only part georgia noticed is when she called her a monster, she is a great mom but while the past is slowly "eating,, her she pushed away her daughter and her problems. "scrub and scrub that damn spot out but you cant wash off a tattoo", by my guessing, she meant that no matter how hard you try to feel better you just can't. (or something else), georgia COULD understand man. but she didn't because she makes things about herself and her past most of the time and ginny did do some messed up shit in her life and to her mom but she's a typical teenager and she goes through her own shit too which is completely understandable + in S2 she had a huge character development which is great and makes things less complicated for people that care to understand her character, georgia did get the positive recognition in the show so it's time ginny gets that part for a while, she deserves it.

I feel like everyone who hated on Ginny's speech reacted much like Georgia and only cared about the words written, not the meaning behind them. Granted, I do agree being called a sin and a monster by your own daughter, who you fought so hard to raise is very painful, and understand why Georgia reacted the way she did, especially knowing her past. And Ginny's not a saint either, we all know that much. But the past doesn't define who you are, so whatever Georgia went through, does not excuse any of her current actions. Ginny is 100% in the right to be hurt by Georgia, and for a teenager who looked up and admired her mom for as long as she did, to find out her hero did the cruel things she did is a massive burden, for sure. Plus, I think it's an amazing show of strong character for Ginny. That she doesn't let her love for her mother blind her to the truth, and isn't scared to defy her. The entire point is that this poem isn't about Georgia, but Ginny. Ginny's feelings. Ginny's words. Her screams, her shouts and her stomps, metaphorically speaking. For once, the spotlight isn't on her mom and Ginny, however vaguely, can speak about her feelings publially, pouring her heart out to a welcoming audience. Both characters are equally great as they are terrible (then again, Ginny's worst action being cheating on her boyfriend and Georgia's being literal murder and embezzlement says a lot more about what's considered "evil" nowadays, like no hate, just it's giving delulu yk what I'm saying? 💀) and that's what makes them so genuine and human. It's supposed to make us both love and hate them, but somehow, it makes the fans hold Ginny more accountable and Georgia less? Sorry for the essay. :(

Neither I nor my siblings would ever do this to our parents - even when one of them kind if deserve it. None of my friends would do this to their parents - and half of them have beyond complicated relationships with them. This is not a phase or teenage rebellion, or at least not an acceptable one. @@jadaandino4691 expectation does not negate choice. I was stressing that other people should not be placing their own personal expectations and judgement on what empathy & compassion are - which are culturally subjective and NOT objective assessments of an emotional state - on top of a teenagers already chaotic & judgemental life. I didn't negate choice in this matter though. A teen could have all the incentives to cede to the psychological warfare happening inside them but it's the choice to do so that changes things. In this context, I wasn't excusing G's behaviour but understanding why she was behaving the way she was. Considering that Georgia hasn't made Ginny accountable for anything in her life at present - e.g no true repercussions for shoplifting, talking her way out of Ginny getting punished for anything - Ginny has no foundational basis from where she has learnt repercussions in a safe, nonjudgmental manner i.e her mother's expectations of behaviour have been almost nonexistent. With no basis, how does one expect Ginny to learn but the really really hard way of seeing how inflicting pain to a loved one does? This is a painful lesson for both to learn.

If you hate Ginny, congratulations you missed the point of the entire show! Everyone views the show from Georgia’s past and perspective, but never Ginny’s. Virginia Miller was born to two teen parents and has never known a moment of stability. Her dad came and went and her mom’s boyfriends came and went. Georgia even had abusive men around (notably Gil. No matter how hard Georgia tried to hide it from Ginny, children always know..) At the slightest bit of trouble, Georgia moved them around state to state, so Ginny never had any real place to call home. She didn’t even have time to make friends. Not to mention, her parents had an on and off relationship throughout her childhood. Every time she hopes her parents would get back together and be a family, they break up again. Ginny knows her mother loves her, but she is NOT a stable person. S1 has proven that Ginny feels she cannot trust her mother to be a safe person when she needs it. Why do you think she self harms?? This poem is about Ginny’s pain, and you all are garbage for invalidating it.

After I saw ginny, for the first time in my life, I finally, actually accepted my curls and now where my hair down more, and not in a ponytail or bun. I don't know, I know it's random, but it meant a lot to me, finally seeing a character like me, and I finally felt seen... I didn't feel alone... Maybe im overreacting... But ya.. But do think about it a way that while georgia did do everything to protect her kids and while that is totally understandable ginny does get to have her own feelings. You all in the comments are so missunderstanding. The point is that none are actually in the wrong because while georgia only wanted to protect her children it also hurt them in a way. Not saying she shouldnt have done that, but all the moving and lying and everything that happend did have inpact on them(mostly ginny cause she’s older). Ginny was just in a bad place and I feel like as much as she didn’t have to call georgia a monster, she did have feelings she needed to get out. She has her own feelings. It’s not like she’ll just feel happy that georgia offed someone even if it was for protection. After all, she is still a kid.

But at some point we also have to draw the line and stop playing the blame game. As child you shouldn’t have to juggle some of your parents problems but at the same time when Georgia was trying to be just her mother and keep her shelter from HER personal background Ginny still took it upon herself to dig deeper into her moms past. Georgia herself told Ginny to stop because the skeletons in her closet wasn’t nice. Ginny brought a lot of stuff on herself when it came to having “trauma” from her MOTHER and blamed Georgia. Ginny used Georgia as an excuse in a lot of her problems SOME she created herself. Ginny was an asshole not just to her mother but also to her friends. Even when SHE was in the wrong somehow she still made it about herself instead of taking accountability at times Ginny was a selfish individual.

I LOVE Ginny and I hate the fact that people who watch Ginny and Georgia will never fully comprehend what Ginny was attempting to say. This poem was a cry for help. She didn’t write this poem with malicious intent. Ginny wrote it so she could articulate her feelings instead of physically harming herself. The fact that so many people don’t understand this is alarming and they should not even watch the show if they don’t understand. Secondly, this poem wasn’t even about Georgia. It was about Ginny and her feelings and how she wants to process them. Ginny is aware that she isn’t a saint, but she is also aware that her mother is either. The fact that so many viewers still see Georgia as one is very telling. Ginny recognises that and she wants to change, she doesn’t want to be like her mother. Now, in saying that, Ginny is well aware and grateful for all that Georgia has done for her and Austin and especially since Georgia told her in the car scene in a previous episode, but imagine being in her shoes. Finding out that your own mother, the person who was been there for you from conception, murdered somebody BECAUSE of you (yes Kenny was molesting her but the point still stands). Now your mother may go to jail for it and you’re the main reason as to why she committed the murder. Not very simple. Ginny is writing about how she wants and needs to change, especially after finding out what her mother did. She doesn’t like the way she acted in the past and she doesn’t want that behaviour to carry on in the future. Ginny has recognised her flaw and wants to change whilst some people (namely Georgia) don’t want to. Finally, Ginny has tried to talk to her mother. Many times in-fact. But Georgia will always dismiss it and act as if nothing has happened. This is shown when Georgia does believe in therapy for her and her two children (when they all so badly need it) and when she finally goes to therapy, she doesn’t even listen to what her daughter is saying or tries to understand where she is coming from. This poem is the only way Ginny can show what she’s feeling. Dang, sorry for the essay, but i am just really passionate about Ginny. She is a complex character and I won’t argue with the fact that season 1 Ginny was significantly worse than season 2. But after season 2, i feel as if people need to change their minds about her.

i had to stop watching this the first time i watched it and i seriously have never had to do that while watching something and trust me i watch a lot. I feel ginny in this scene on a level i cant even begin to explain. i want to thank the writers for going out of their way to truly depict depression, Its not pretty so all the people villanizing ginny can fuck right off. I'm sorry peoples mental illness is hard for you to witness but imagine living with it. remember this the next time you say you are an ally for mental illness, you might be but when the going gets tough it disappears, that's not real allyship

I didn't get ginny pov as much as Georgia's... Ginny had her struggles of constantly moving around, not being able to settle in one place, not being able to make friends and so on... It lead to self harming, having a hard time making the correct decision. Before, All she provided with was a small part of Georgia's past. As a teen knowing that her mom killed her stepfather is for sure triggering information for her. It's not something small, Georgia did drop a bomb at once, so it might be overwhelming for her. Although her words and actions were hurtful and annoying (sometimes) Think about it people might say something which we may not mean to say or the choice of words might go wrong. And at some point, we realise it and we learn from the past to become a better person. And it was shown as the episode progressed to the end. Georgia was a teen back then when she had ginny, and on top of that she was struggling in all ways keep her daughter and her alive. She wasn't financial stable neither mentally. Obviously her life was unguided without affection from her parent, growing up with stepfather's sexual abuse. She would definitely tries to make ginny's life better in every way possible even if it cost her life, she was ready. Her methods of protections weren't through right ways, obviously not murder. But she was mentally unstable with lots of things happening around her.She might've been in an overwhelmed phase to act like so. She learned to use weapons in order to protect herself( you will definitely get it)... Again, later on when she came to know that all along her mother knew about her stepdad's action and chosen keep it silent. How betrayed and helpless might have Georgia felt... And again, she was never free from all this... Always being caution and aware like she said in order to keep a step in advance, if she was an emotionless idiotic person like people says ( she was a bad mother not caring about her daughter) then half of what ginny is having wouldn't be there. when last she thought she was going to have something it all got ruined. the last murder was unnecessary even though she did it on sympathy, she was in no place to kill him. It probably might not make sense to everyone but it's just my opinion. (sorry for my poor English!)

Ginny is an annoying brat and i kinda hate her but 'I inherit the sin and become the monster I was born from' is a really good line. Actually, the entire poem slays but i can kinda relate that line.

i mean if she wanted it to rhyme she could’ve said “and i became the monster i always had within” or sumthin like that 🤷‍♀️ but i love the actingfrom toni and brianne, you can tell both of them look emotionally hurt and the way toni portrayed the lines are really sentimental

What Georgia did was wrong. But to say she becomes a monster because of her mother is way preaching. It's funny cause this teenagers always trying to find their identity and if it's bad choices or not peaches or roses, they blamed it on the parents. If it's good, it's from their struggle, strength. So I guess I am one of the few people who will never be able to understand Ginny and let alone empathizing with her situation. To be direct here, she used Georgia as he emotional outlets whenever she wants to. Never trying to be accountable for the choices she makes. And proceeds to let Georgia shoulder everything under the context that she's broken because Georgia makes her so. It's bs. What amazing to me is, i was expecting Georgia to have mental breakdown or mental health issues for everything she went through, including Ginny's treatment. I guess from this poem Ginny is better off without Georgia. I know viewers would like to see that because Ginny won't be able to survive shit. But Georgia won't be able to survive too without Ginny because her childrens are her life. That's why she went all out to protect them. The healthiest way is honestly for both of them to go separate ways. And then we will see who else Ginny wants to put the blame on
