Dean's Fishroom Update 5May2023

Фильм және анимация

A whack of new fish, fry and two new tanks setup in the fishroom! New species include sundadanio axelrodi, pseudomugil ivantsoffi, melanotaenia kali tawa, rhadinocentrus ornatus Seary Creek & Carland Creek, corydoras geryi, pseudomugil gertrudea and melanotaenia australis. Whoops, I meant Common Sense Aquatics not Source Aquatics... I was still medicated, a little braindead, forgetful and making up stuff. commonsenseaquatics.com/

    Thanks... glad too share here, otherwise it's only myself and a few friends that can appreciate it. Love losing myself in the room going tank to tank until the lights go out. I really appreciate the other people who post videos about their fish rooms, so I am compelled to contribute!

    Wishing you well and fast healing to. Bless your heart. You'll be busy sorting out all those fry. LOL. Your tanks are fantastic. I love planted tanks. I really like the combination of plants that you use in each of your tanks. Its very interesting and they work well together. And then the fish...... woohoo. The plants really highlight the fish. And yes, I do appreciate the clean glass. I don't have to strain my eyes to see the fish. I think my favorite tank would have to be the furcata and gertrudei tank. Its good to see someone who loves their fish. Thank you for the video. Im sure it caused you alot of pain to do it.

    Thanks. The fry sorting is getting there, starting to be able to identify who went where, but I will wait until they are a little bigger before I move them. Glad you enjoyed the aquariums and the clean glass! Didn't hurt too much, but was a little painful in another way, it was my third start - tripped over my crutch once and drew a blank on the name of a common fish.... too many umms, then a total blank silence, lol, required a redo. I try not to be too fussy with the little tours, keeps it real, but I do have limits to public displays of my incompetence!!! When I think it would be hard to watch that's when I give myself the hook, lol.

    @@AguabonitaAquatics 😆 That's funny. Well at least you have a sense of humor about it. I'm a firm believer that laughter is a cure all. I simply love laughter. And with all this social media, people don't congregate like we used to. So there's not much laughter happening anymore. It's very sad. But that's one of the things missing from peoples lives. We need to bring back the humor and laughter back.

    Thanks. I like to spend most of my time in nature. Here in Canada we have 6 months of winter. I like snow and all, but only so much. To keep from getting the shack nasties, I treat myself with aquariums. To keep 'er on the level, I have to be on a pretty high dose... I expect it will only get higher; it's a chronic progressive condition, but better than most. Have a great day! Keep your stick on the ice, eh!

    Incredible tanks and fish mate, earned yourself a new sub. I hope to have just 1 or 2 tanks that look as good as yours one day. Getting my first pseudomugil in the next week or two (signifer, appears in local creeks near home).

    Stumbled onto your video - and really enjoyed it. Hope you are recovering easily. Beautiful tanks surely help with that! Especially enjoying hearing what you like and why. Hope to locate some schismatoglottis in US and a few other plants you mentioned that I might have to look for. Subbed and will be watching more of your videos to learn about some of the cool fish you've shown. Setting up tank #6 40g. Plant recommendation if you don't have it already: piptospatha ridleyi. I planted some in 2020 from tissue culture glued to small rock set on flourite gravel substrate In my 72F non co2 mid-light tank. Has been growing slowly with leaf size of anubias barteri in same tank, and have grown to 9" tall, maybe 9 leaves total with beautiful light/dark pattern on wavy-edged leaves. Would possibly be more compact with stronger light and less crowding.

    Wow, yes, piptospatha ridleyi is an awesome looking plant. I want! I got my schismatoglottis prietoi from commonsenseaquatics.com/ out of Calgary, but I think Curtis can ship anywhere. Otherwise it is an Aquaflora plant, They are on Facebook, facebook.com/AquafloraNL but I think it is wholesale only, so if Curtis can't ship to you I'm sure someone local could create a wholesale account with Aquaflora. I picked up a number of their plants and they were great quality.

    Thank you for sharing your setup as you continue to heal 👍 I was wondering what steps you take (if any) to control algae. Do you limit the lighting time, or avoid using fertilizer? I love the heavily planted Nano tanks😍

  • @AguabonitaAquatics

    @AguabonitaAquatics

    Жыл бұрын

    Lol, my lights are on 15 hrs/day for maximum enjoyment using lower powered lights. I find the Hygger 24/7 absolutely perfect for doing this. Higher powered lights will need to be dimmed to keep them on this long. I use no fertilizer in 80 - 90% of my tanks. I do add root tabs directly below heavier root feeders (e.g., lotus) in newer setups, but beyond that it is just fish waste and 25% weekly water changes. I have Seachem flourish and have dosed once in the last 2 years on the 90, lol. I think micronutrients would be beneficial in that tank, but meh, looks good. I like to have it kicking around for backup, but almost never use it. Snails and neocaridinia shrimp take care of the majority of algae, but I am hyper aware of hair algae, it is removed as I see it. Once you get on top of it, it is easy to take care of. Some of my tanks never get hair algae, depends on bioload and plant combinations, but most tanks are used for fry grow out, so have heavy nutrient loads; hair algae happens and I take care of it. Little bit of effort goes a long ways.

    No problem Huy, I actually have a bunch of video that I have been putting together for breeding red neon blue eyes and forktails. I was going to make it a while back, but thought that it would be a perfect time to do this after my surgery. You help make it an easy decision, I'll do this next, just need a couple more shots.
