@@IndoorEcosystem I think they would be great dither fish.... and compete for looks with most any other fish I've seen. They are chili rasbora small, and look like tiny cardinal tetras in dim reflected light, very cool! I think my thumbnail does them justice... only took 700 shots, lol. They are quick and my camera is second rate.

Thanks. Maintenance per gallon is a little on the high side, but they do allow for more species variety which is a big plus.

Nice, I'm jealous! You guys have the best of both worlds down under. Collecting in the wild is next level! You will love the furcatus, they get bigger than I expected and more beautiful as they age... definitely not more productive though, lol. No eggs from the old-timers, but nice to look at.

Love seeing your tank updates. Exciting to hear you have collected seed from the barclaya - hope to see tiny plants in your future. Oh the baby puffers! Must say, I can not imagine how you go about catching any fish at all out of your tanks with all of the plants. I moved some danios from my 75 into my 40 and had to leave 3 behind that I just could NOT catch. And I have 12 debauwi cats in my 40 that I wanted to move. Nope. They are never leaving that tank! I think they have all stamped their feet and stuck out their tongues at me. Possibly heard them laughing too:)

Thanks! Hopefully the barclaya and pea puffers do well. I'm pretty excited about both. Your are right fish are insanely difficult to catch out of my tanks, but I love the look. Even guppies are a challenge. If you look at the juvenile Medaka tank, there is one guppy in it, she is a master escape artist, lol.

I’m jealous as how compact full your tanks are of plants. I know plants aren’t cheap. Keep up the great work.

You probably have the most nice planted tanks I've ever seen. That is very ambitious. And I am worried about my 110 gallon tank if something happens to me! Mine is doing very well with the plants and I'm trying to fill out the back of my tank with plants. Fertilize once a week, change about 25 gallons with rain water and filter with a sump and cannister filter. My fish do very well and love the plants. Thanks for the video.

Thanks! Maintenance takes a while, but it's more therapeutic than labour intensive. Sounds like you have a fantastic tank to work with. I have a plan laid out if anything happens to me as the tanks would crumble pretty fast. Gives me some piece of mind.

Hey Dean, love the plants in all your tanks! The video you made a couple years ago featuring your angels you said you weren’t good at plants. Since when? I am a live plant flunky😢what’s your secret??

Thanks, but sorry, not that Dean, I'm just Dean, lol. I've always had plants. My secret is water changes, the odd root tab and picking out hair algae from time to time. My primary fertilizer is fish waste... nitrates are running at about 20-30 mg/L. Basically, just low tech planted tanks with pretty diligent maintenance.

Wow, everything is looking great! Awesome tour. What is the plant in the ivantsoffi tank, the long slender twisty one that is sort of growing up and tumbling over? I love the feel of that tank.

Thanks! Cryptocoryne balansae or as per Tropica Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae. The Ivantsoffis have since went to one of the 75s and it is now a baby pea puffer tank. Always lots of change in the fishroom, I'll have to do another update next month!

All of your tanks look amazing, love the lush underwater gardens you got there. Do you fertelize your tanks?

Thanks! Just the odd root tab in a few of the sand tanks with heavy root feeders. 95% fish waste providing the fertilization.

Happy to have found your channel, I’m loving your tanks and you are keeping things great! Looking at your plants, I’m wondering if you are using aqua soil, ADA or just simple dirt (walstad method) for your tanks. Please keep producing great content!

Thanks Poly! I actually only use straight sand or gravel with very limited vacuuming, a weeking 25% water change and the odd root tab. All the tanks are well established and many are fed heavily to grow fry, so I have good growth from a lot of fish waste.

@@holapolyI would say what I do is similar to walstad with a lot more water changes, a very active system that really requires a close eye on what is going on. I'm growing fry in almost all tanks, so there is a lot of nutrient input; things can go south if I don't stay on top of it... it's happened. For regular fish keeping walstad can work great, let the plants do most of the work. Give it a try!

Beautiful fish! I'm starting to really fancy some rainbow fish, especially blue-eyes, there's so many different varieties that I like way more than Bosemani which I've never been a fan of, they seem to hog the spotlight when it comes these species.

No CO2. Basically just fish waste and 25% weekly water changes. Start out with an easy and quick growing plant like hygrophila polysperma and expand from there with crypts and anubius. I killed a lot of plants in the beginning too... just stick with it and eventually you'll dial it in. What are your water parameters? I'm assuming hard alkaline.

Thanks for checking it out! Lights are on for 15 hrs/day. They aren't very strong and I keep them on longer to promote more algae for my shrimp. Plants like it or melt away pretty quick, there have been a few casualties... but most species I've tried seem to adjust well and some, like the Barclaya, love it!

I aspire to get some geryi some day!

Thanks. No additional CO2, just from the fish. The fish are also providing 95% of the fertilizer, I do use the odd root tab. They are a bit higher energy systems as I am raising a fair number of fry. 25% water changes once a week. Really simple to maintain.

@@AguabonitaAquatics that's awesome! I feel like high tech gets pushed a lot more lately, at least here on yt. But it's just not as beautiful to me. Your tanks are a sight to behold! Beautifully done. I especially enjoyed your, what did you call it??? A constant breeding tank for CPD's? I am colony breeding them as well, though not in a beautiful tank like yours. Mine is more of a working tank😅. Just a bunch of Val and Sadge over half and moss and pea gravel on the other side for spawning. Your tank definitely gave me some ideas to redo mine over the winter if my CPD's slow down, as they seem to want to do as they're unheated here in southern California so our nights are cooling down. Do you notice any seasonality in your constant breeder or is it heated so you get mating all year? Thanks🙏

@@laurabustos6560 Thanks! My CPDs breed all year long. The basement has in-floor heating so it is 70-72F from Sept-May. From June-Aug it gets up to about 76F. I'm not really sure if there is a better time or temperature as the tank fills up with fry pretty quickly after I remove some to grow out tanks. If I had to guess, I'd say the summer seems a bit more productive.

I would love to get some of those Kali Tawa rainbows and pick your brain regarding how you grow plants so well in Red Deer water. I cannot grow bolbitis worth a darn and you seem to grow everything. Your Kijiji add must have expired I just went on there today and it was gone. If you put it back up I will get in touch with you.

Thanks, for the reminder. I'm usually the last one to know when the add expires, lol. The add is back up and I have some Kali tawa left, mostly males. My bolbitis doesn't grow that great either, it's super slow growing. Most everything else for plants that I have are doing well in Red Deer water though.

What size are most of the pseudomugil tanks?

Thank you Would it be possible to keep a few of the P. luminatis in a well established moderately planted 10gal. soft water tank. There are 3 Pygmy Cory’s & 2 otto’s but could remove those if that was too much. I am coming to the Edmonton club auction to join the club and meet some other fish enthusiasts. Loving my choice to change from saltwater to planted FW. Very challenging to learn Latin names for fish and plants whew.. If this setup is suitable I hope to attain some of these amazingly beautiful pseudomugils.

@@Auntyfishy I think they would be OK in a 10 gallon and do come from an environment with variable water conditions so softer water would likely be OK. I will try to bring some luminatus to the auction if I can make it there this year.

Maybe I should just do the 10 in a mix of 50/50 tap ro-di water. Or even just mostly tap. Our water is naturally occurring from all the surrounding muskeg natures filter into cold lake our water source. Is there a way that I could private talk with you about possible purchases as I have a niece that is coming up here to visit the end of October after the Edm. Auction? That is if you don’t make it there.
