Dean is one of the top notch very best session guitarists of all time. He rocked Bread (the band), and listen to his work with more than just Steely Dan.... He played on more records than most people ever imagined. Johnny Rivers, Stevie Wonder, BREAD, David Gates, Van Morrison..... and a super large list of hit records! He wrote “Dancing Machine” and played for the Jacksons..... Dean is an amazing Guitarist 🎸 for sure!

Actually, Walter played the solo on Haitian Divorce but apparently he copied Dean’s parts and played it through a talk box. So Dean wrote that solo in essence.

So good to see your interview. When I was still in High School, Dean played in some small dances I booked around Ft Worth - clarinet & guitar. And we've remained friends over the years. When I was working with Sonny & Cher and debating to move to LA, I called him and said if you know anyone looking for a keyboard player? 2 weeks later I flew to LA to audition for Joan Armatrading and that made the move. It is so good to hear him talk about the history and decisions he made in his life, some I was around but didn't know the history of. Brilliant player and wonderful person...

Thanks for doing this interview. Not a whole lot of interviews with him, which is unfortunate. He's one of the greats! Other than his obvious guitar skills, you can see why people would hire him. Such a nice low key guy.

This interview was amazing I went to North Texas State several years after Dean was already well on his way but he was one of those legendary figures to be able to play guitar and one band and sax in another. he certainly learn to play acoustic guitar extremely well listen to the classical guitar on Josh Groban‘s Christmas song.

What a great video and as someone who records I have pushed more musicians to get a small Tascam or Zoom SDHC card recorder and record themselves playing so they know what the audience hears. This is invaluable for any musician. I have given voice lesson at my home for people who wanted to sing solos as church who were not quite ready for prime time, even though they "thought" they were. Everyone sounds great in the shower. Not. Thanks for this video.
