Amazing, Dean walked on for the first time and did this routune without rehearsal. Some might say it shows, but the end product is just great entertainment that can't help but put a smile on your face ! He was an entertainment genious !

You're right Dean should have been recognized by the Academy for several of his roles. He definitely deserves to be recognized even if posthumuosly. His roles in The Young Lions '58, Some Came Running '59, Rio Bravo '59, Ada '61 and Toys in The Attic '63 come to mind.

One of my favorite videos ever. All are class acts with TRUE talent. I still adore Lainie Kazan. She's one of the best actresses ever.

Ethel’s voice upstages the others. Not her fault, but it is what it is. Especially when they sing together. God bless them all.

Remarkably like the time Merman drowned out both Streisand and Garland on the latter's 1963 TV show. Streisand just gave up. I love the bit here where the band lose time on Blow Gabriel Blow - Merman just keeps singing until they catch up with her! Dino, as always, is priceless.

This must be what they call timeless entertainment. It made me smile a lot, it wasn't boring even though this clip was clearly outdated, the humor was still effective. And a lot of it looked impromptu. Great post!

I met Lainie Kazan, twice, when I was 19, back in 1978, & working at a Hair & Nail Salon, at a Playboy Club, in New Jersey. I went to her room to give her a manicure & pedicure, both times. At the time, I had NO idea who she was! I was told, by my boss, she was a singer. When I got to her room, I was NOT impressed...BECAUSE I was only 19, & into 'The Top 40 Hits' & rock & roll music...SO....all I wanted...was to 'get it over with'! What I remember, from 36 yrs. ago, was her telling me that her feet were "a little messed up", from a car accident she had been in. (I really didn't notice anything wrong) Her young daughter & her assistant were in the room. Her assistant was 'fawning' all over her, & my impression of her daughter...was...that she was 'acting like a brat'.....I DO remember, both times I was there, Lainie ordered matzo ball soup!

It makes me laugh that celebrities that aren’t well known, are the ones who act like they are so famous and are bigger than they really are. Nothing stays with one longer than a chance meeting with a famous or not so famous celebrity that leaves one feeling nonplussed. I know that my encounter was with a extremely famous celebrity, But in 1984, I met Joe DiMaggio in LaGuardia Airport in NY. It was later in the evening and My cousin recognized the baseball legend and MR. COFFEE spokesman at the baggage claim. There were hardly any people around when she went up to him and asked him if she could get his autograph. She explained that it was for her brother , who was a huge Yankee Fan. Well, you would have thought that she asked for both of his kidneys! He was rude and mean and begrudgingly relented and I laughed when my cousin gave him her pen and the pen didn’t work! He became very agitated and let out a deep heavy breath because he had to reach in his pocket to use his own pen and HIS pen was dry as well! LOL 😂 That didn’t stop my cousin, she started emptying her purse on the floor in search for another pen as he shook his head in anger and she pulled out a rabbit’s foot keychain and asked him to hold it while she dug through her purse! By now, I had visions of Lucy Ricardo, from I Love Lucy, doing this in one of the episodes! Finally she handed him a pen and got his autograph and he was really nasty at this point and I looked at him and said, “ see if I buy another MR COFFEE again!” DiMaggio looked at me and let out a little laugh.. He never apologized for his attitude but I would be damned, if I was going to fawn over a man whose fans gave him who made him a famous sports legend.

I wouldn't call Lainie Kazan beautiful, but she's got a kind of brazen sexiness that makes her irresistible. Just saw her in "My Favourite Year" with Peter O'Toole. Yummy !

A harmonizer Ethel is not. I guess she never saw the need to do so, especially in situations beyond the Broadway stage. Her powerful voice is definitely over kill here. Too bad.
