Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis: Ev'ry Street's a Boulevard in Old New York

Музыка

Probably the finest musical number ever featured in a Martin & Lewis film, from "Living It Up" (1954).

Growing up in NYCity in the post-war 1950s was a special time for me. Beyond the nostalgic aspect, this scene says a lot about why so many of us will always call NY home, no matter where we live. The song has that special emotional underpinning which grabs hearts...especially for those privileged to have been raised during the optimistic '50s.

This is by far my most favorite Martin and Lewis film! at 17 a theater class i was in gave an assignment on recreating what we thought the best musical choreography in film for a talent show up coming..most chose Astaire, Kelly, even Cagney, but me & a friend chose THIS routine! stunned my teacher hated the idea-i was an actor NO singer-my partner was the singer so jerry's singing was perfect 4 me & the dancing was relatively easy to learn- WE TORE THE HOUSE DOWN! memories!

I’ve never seen Dean Martin so athletic and seemingly enjoying the work. Jerry is his usual very athletic dynamic aggressive self playing off that original Smooth Criminal Dean Martin. Love this. itsjust me Because these are very different times and people are much more cynical and jaded today. I’m not sure if anyone who didn’t live through those post-War years can ever really fully understand the relative innocence and hopefulness of those times. We had just come through a long war just a few years before and people were lighthearted and thought they had so much to look forward to. It really was a Golden Age before all the horrors of the late 20th century descended on us. As the old saying goes; ‘The past is another country, they do things differently there.’
