Dealing with Downswings - Poker Life Lessons
Ойындар
Dealing with downswings is one of the important poker life lessons and topic in poker that I get asked about often. A downswing is a period of continuous losing and what poker players call “running bad.” I wanted to share what I’ve learned based on my years in the game and the type of mindset I’ve tried to adopt when dealing with downswings.

Andy, every time I walked away from the table after losing my stack, I would initially be upset, frustrated and angry with myself or other variables I couldn't control. But soon after those feelings faded, one thing became clear - I always learned a valuable lesson, whether it was from my own mistakes or bad runout, I invariably discovered a new method to improve my game by learning from the experience. Thank you for your knowledge, God bless you and happy holidays my friend, I always look forward to your videos and I've always admired you since I first saw you on LATB streams.

Aloha from Honolulu Hawaii Andy! I just ran into your video, how perfect was the timing. Just played in 2 tournaments, and it was a rough outing to say the least. Glad you are sharing these kind words of wisdom to everyone. Aloha, and good luck at the tables.
Ive been playing poker over a decade and I can tell you that this video summarizes how to deal with losses VERY WELL. This is years of Andys trials in summary. Well done.
Downswings can take a toll on a player mentally. If your only source of income in poker and you are in a downswing, you begin to question yourself and if the game is getting tougher or has passed you. That's kind of scary because if you've been grinding longterm and need to change career, it's very hard to do so.
Currently on a minor downswing and trying to find excuses to get to the poker room. After viewing this, I may just take a month or so off to deal with what I have going on. Thanks Andy - you probably just saved me a couple of G's by me viewing this vlog!.

Great perspective of the game of poker. Looking forward to seeing you play, thanks Andy!
Hey Andy I just want to thank you for sharing such a necessary component of poker. I gotta say that I really enjoy seeing you play poker. Seeing you and Garrett play taught me so much. “Poker is a game of people”, is such a true statement! Please keep on sharing stories and little bits of helpful info with us. I believe that you are one hell of a poker player and hopefully one day I can watch you play. Thanks brother and keep on winning the big ones while losing the small ones!

I love your openness and honesty you put into your videos. So many youtubers are so fake never talking about the downs in poker. We all know it happens and I think it's healthy to embrace it and learn from it. Keep up the good work. I really appreciate your content.

I guess everybody has different reasons for starting a channel and for me the openness comes from simply wanting to share my experiences and journey in poker. Thanks for your support and words.
An abundance of wisdom spoken here in such a concise manner. Can not disagree with a single thing you said. Strong mentality differentiates winners from losers.
Man that line early on when he said ?"For years I thought my self worth was determined through my results in this game". That really hit me. During my biggest downswing that's how I felt. I felt I couldnt do anything right not only in poker, but life. You learn to work through it though. Dont give up. Having regrets in life are the worst. Not those type of regrets where something didnt go your way, I'm talking the type of regrets where you just give up on something and lose belief and hope.

Great video! The best "dealing with downswings" poker video I've seen
Outstanding analysis and making sense of what goes through your mind during this period.
Oh man that's what I'm experiencing right now, I don't even play much because of covid but when I do play, I am so unlucky. I try to play proper but man I just keep losing. I play like once every 3 weeks? And im already down 6k. The worst is those are the money i saved up from my job working nonstop, doing ot's and I just lose it because I get so unlucky and gets rivered everytime.
This is THE perfect response to a downswing. The "nobody cares that you are losing" is so TRUE. Playing on tilt would only make it worse. Game selection and playing your best poker = profit
This is about as real as it gets. Thank you!

One of the best video's I've ever seen. Very rational and informative. I play for a living , but way lower stakes (2-5- 1k buyin) and this happens to everyone. The key is actually putting these words into action. The same as putting a new strategy into action. Thanks for the video!

Hi buddy Andy, thanks for the nice sharing. I learned a lot from Andy. Love ❤️ from Malaysia 🇲🇾.
thanks Andy, good video for player. I had been in downswing for long time, sometimes even doubt myself if I am suitable with poker. What I do just like you said, stop play for a while and find out that poker is just part of my life, and then come back again. Fortunately I find some good friends who will stake me on poker and I will continue , try to be better day by day.

Great video, Andy. Something as simple as not playing when I was tired made a huge difference in my game. Likewise making sure I eat regularly. Mind-numbingly obvious things to do but often overlooked even by great players. Control these simple things and downswings become a lot more manageable.

Hey man thanks for this. Exactly what i needed 🙏🏻
Just what I needed to hear my dude 👍🏾
I lost the AZ state poker tournament in the first hour with KK $1200 buy in. I learned so much from losing early realizing (humility) that I needed to switch styles early on because everyone was calling down pocket pairs with anything, hoping to bink the flop. I couldn't imagine the downswings you've been through. I'm going to crush that tourney never giving up on my dream. Thanks Andy for the inspiration!

I’m currently in a major downswing, I play low stake tournament’s about twice a week. Currently it’s been 50+ games since I last cashed. I do my best to go into games with a positive mind set, but when that first beat happens, negativity & doubt start creeping in. I’ve tried stepping away & took a month off last year, but returning to the game but those doubts & negativity just came straight back.
Another amazing content, love it.
Great wisdom thanks Andy. Especially tough to go through a downswing when you've been on a crazy heater over several sessions and all of a sudden you can't win a session no matter what you do. Mentally draining.
