    It’s important to tell the mixer driver to keep the hopper full when you start pumping again so the water on top mixes in slowly

    If funny how a lot of us learned these tricks of the trade by trial-and-error. I so wish i had KZread when i started pumping lol.... Great video Scott

    Oh dude, it’s crazy to think how much time/money was wasted, not to mention the potentially dangerous situations most of us incurred while learning to run these machines. It’s a WILD industry.

    I quite honestly surprised at how well it has been received. Most of us pump operators can be quite critical of the way other operators do things. It’s been 99% positive support the channel. I’ve really been enjoying making these videos. Thank you for watching and I really do appreciate your positive words. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏

    Had this happen a couple weeks ago except i couldnt displace the water, i was sitting on asphalt tried to reverse the pump and blend the wet with the dry before i pumped down but of course it was friday and i got rock packed in the deck and turret took over an hour to clear it with a pressure washer cap and sponge but finally got it. Just another lovely FU friday as a pump guy, nice tutorial scott pump on!!

    We've got a few drivers bad about washing in the hoppers. It's definitely not cool when that happens. Great Video on how to continue on and decrease the chance of rocking up!

    I don’t mind a driver doing a quick rinse into the hopper under certain and very specific circumstances, but it’s something which most definitely needs to be discussed prior. It’s definitely a recipe for catastrophe if the operator doesn’t know it’s coming. Glad you enjoyed this one Darin.

    Great video! Good job. A lot of us have paid the price of the last truck putting to much water in our hopper. We have mixes with a lot of man sand. You basically have to get rid of the water. It can be unforgiving.

    I hear ya. Our local suppliers play around with different sand suppliers (not uncommon in todays day and age of seemingly never ending supply chain shortages). I would say that the sand is probably the most critical complement of the mix in terms of pumpability as well placing/finishing of the concrete.

    You know what’s worse than this. The mixer driver also helping you by chipping the rock hard stuff into the hopper at the end of a long day at the same time

    Lol! I get triggered even just from my oil being rinsed off the hopper. The intention is good. The result, not so much.

    Id like to know whats the craziest thing youv ever pumped? Mine was a ballpeen hammer through a high rise system up 27 floors... didnt plug till the buffer at the end of the hose.. mixer driver dropped it in his load

    I actually pumped the head of my mini-sledge through the boom. I guess one of the ready mix drivers grabbed it proceeded using it to bang some hardened concrete off of his chute. The head of the hammer busted off and fell in through the hopper grate. 😂

    We had one outfit which switched to pay-per-load rather than hourly for awhile. The hopper washout ratio skyrocketed (get in/out as quick as possible and onto haul the next one). There’s so many little things which the drivers can do to make a hopper washout fairly uneventful (providing that the mix is at least decent). These guys dare I say it, actually got pretty darn good/efficient at rinsing out into the hopper. 😂😂😂

    How can you pump 5MPA ? We had a blockage due to 15MPA our operator not knowing at the time and it was a super boney mix and it blocked in the boom in between start stopping once primed and blew the elbow under the turret 😅 messy day elbow was out of spec we hadn’t had the pump long got told it was all tested and with in spec 🤦‍♀️

    This mix appears to have a pile of fly ash in it. It actually pumped great. Like you said however, we’ve also had 15 mpa mixes which would just lock up on the back end of the pump. This stuff here was some of the nicest CDF which I’ve pumped.

    Hey Scott, do you ever let the last truck wash into the hopper on very stiff mixes? Some of the work we do is to the tune of a 2” slump so I’ve been known to water down the hopper after pumping out

  • @canadianconcretepumper1979

    @canadianconcretepumper1979

    8 ай бұрын

    So yes, I often do, but it the mix is dry/stiff/coarse what I’ll do is swing my boom back around to the hopper and recirculate while they’re washing into the hopper. I like introducing the wash-water into the concrete gradually to mitigate any chances of a segregation plug.

    What’s your take on hopper level. When waiting for the next truck? Say a 30+ min wait? I like to leave my hopper level on the lower side.

  • @canadianconcretepumper1979

    @canadianconcretepumper1979

    8 ай бұрын

    Assuming I able to swing the boom around to the hopper for recirculating, I leave it 3-4 strokes from sucking air. I like to leave it on the lower side as well, as it helps to prevent buildup from developing (makes for an easier washout).

  • @dannpriebe

    @dannpriebe

    Totally depends on the situation. Often I leave a full hopper so I can pump out a couple times before I reach the need to circulate stage. Usually gives me an 30 to 45 minutes of waiting depending on the mix.
