What a BS report. Hindsight is always 20/20, but in the moment, the Officer made the call to pursue but the responsibility for the chase, the crash and the death rests solely on the CRIMINAL who chose to run. Whether or not a Supervisor checked in or not has no bearing on if the pursuit was justified. Every Officer straight from the academy or with 20+ years, has been trained to have the judgement needed to make the call. Period.

So a supervisor was on duty, was monitoring, and saw no reason to intervene. That is far from "was unsupervised". While driving the squad car, the deputy was giving position, traffic and speed updates regularly. However, it is unsafe to have conversations while driving at response or pursuit speeds. The supervisor could have intervened, terminated at any time. What a pathetic piece of pseudo-journalism.

There are a number of factors to consider as an officer during a pursuit. What is the want? What are traffic conditions? The cop definitely violated rules as it was obvious the rules were stated as he should have had supervision. A supervisor would have pulled him off of this chase when he got into a 30 mph zone and the chase was going 90 mph that can only end in death. High speed police chases almost always end in death or injury. They should be called off when they get dangerous. They have the license number of the car they can go after the person at their house. The police chases are never worth the death of innocent civilians.
@LJT790727 күн бұрын
So what are you expect because this is a rookie cop that he should allow someone who is possibly intoxicated swerving all over the road to just let him go because he’s a rookie and it might turn out bad? A LEO has one year from the date hired to attend the academy. A 40 hr. pre basic class must be completed before allowed on the road. The new hire should be trained by an FTO for several weeks and show competency before being released on their own.

The officer has no idea why the car was 'speeding'. Speeding alone is not a criminal offense... IT turned into a felony and criminal offense AFTER the officer activated his lights and went into pursuit mode..... DEPENDING how serious the cause for pursuit was, is the reason how long the pursuit takes place before being called off. DON'T YOU listen to the scanner or watch KZread chase videos??? EVERT pursuit is given official approval shortly after it starts and CALLED off when it's deemed dangerous.! Especially pit maneuvers.... The Sherriff or Chief should be responsible for all decisions made in pursuits.......

Supervision is required, since when do cops get a badge before they graduate the academy?
If any officer should be charged, the officer’s supervisor should be charged for not supervising the pursuit.

Period.
Stop blaming the police!
Thankfully no innocent folks were killed in this crash.
How about holding the criminal accountable....Is that so hard???? Running should be a 20 year sentence with NO PAROLE just for this crap! Your story is terrible and the reason why criminals never get jail time!

Why is the press knocking down a good pursuit with a good result?. The criminal was caught and he won't do it again.

Din't run from the police.
There are a number of factors to consider as an officer during a pursuit. What is the want? What are traffic conditions? You don't want to be chasing someone for speed when there are too many other cars on the road. Back off and follow at distance. You don't want to contribute the the death or injury of innocent people.
The criminal caused the crash , the County needs to review it's policies and procedures to ensure better training before officers become active . The state needs to monitor law enforcement .
Should not let the driver fleeing any excuse! The driver decided to run, he’s the murderer! Not excusing the cop at all! 90mph in town! That’s crazy and no trained officer would have continued!
Ok well what do you expect these officers to do. He was a sworn law enforcement officer what else does he need. Someone on the radio should have said to stop the pursuit. It shouldn’t be up to him to ask in the heat of the moment.
This has everything to do with the criminal fleeing from the law and nothing to do with the deputy. Change your tone.
Sad
Watch older videos of The Political Spotlight to see the history of the sheriff. He has no experience either. He's violent and cost the city their insurance coverage!
all I hear is The Officer needs supervisor Not the suspect/criminal should not be running from the police!!!
So what are you expect because this is a rookie cop that he should allow someone who is possibly intoxicated swerving all over the road to just let him go because he’s a rookie and it might turn out bad? Where was the damn back up???? The criminal ran from the police. He wrecked his car because of his own reckless and dangerous actions not because of the actions of the cop. This journalism is disgusting! Don’t blame the police for doing their job. Blame the criminal who broke the law.
Find a way to blame the officer because somebody died, so whose fault is it? Surely not the fleeing driver but the pursuer is definitely at fault? Yes?

There is no doubt there was a pursuit in progress( proof of radio chatter),, you cannot deny. THAT 'pursuit in progress' alone could find the deputy guilty of being somewhat at fault for the cause of that accident and being charged with INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER. COULD the driver of that silver car slow down knowing he wasn't being chased IF the officer backed off before entering Muncie? ABSOLUTELY! Thank God no children near them schools was hurt!!!!!!!! THIS whole situation stinks! Gung-ho cops getting caught up in their own actions.
Internal review what a joke,it's obvious that the pursuit should have been terminated within the first few miles of the chase.and yes a few heads need to roll and the officer, sheriff deputy, what ever maybe needs to never wear a badge again because of poor judgment at minimum. But I would give him a year in county jail with sheriff and the duty Sargent.
