    These are small floats kzread.infoUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU recommend the package is smaller than my hand just to provide perspective. That said I wanted small floats for the times I need to add one when trout fishing or fishing for panfish. The peg is perfect for my application where I want a set hold point that is quickly adjustable and want to be able to add the float without retying. That’s the real advantage here. You can add this float to your line without retying and adjust the depth easily with the peg so it won’t kink your line like a traditionalit. If I need to set this too deep then I’d switch over to ait with a thread stop to make casting easier. But like I said, these are a great value for the price I paid. Probably better suited to applications where your depth is 5-feet or less for the sake of casting.

    Great video, I've never caught a pike in 41 years of fishing so that's hopefully going to change this year. I live next to the Wye so a lot of walking and casting lures is on the agenda.

    The key to this set up is to keep the weight stationary on the bottom when a fish takes, if the float is too buoyant for an under weighted lead, fish will toe the weight and result in increased dropped baits. Use smallest float as possible with heavier leads. A paper clip atratched to lead also makes a good quick release if snagged. Good video

    Great vid,this is what piking has been to me for many years. End tackle is so personal and i hate those poly floats.I admit to being a float snob.Or a twat....either way i prefer a balsa waggler for most of my ledgering in slack/slow water of the pencil type,unweighted. Been trying sprats a lot with just a single treble at the tail through the mouth with a needle which needs securing to prevent tearing when casting more than a few yards.I like a single treble but i am still not sure if i am missing bigger fish using such a small bait.I suspect not but a 20 is still a sprat target for me.

    We don't do much bait fishing pal so they do a job. My jerk baits get more and more tarty and I rarely use a plastic one (buster jerk is ace though) and that's same as you and your floats. Starting out, you get the cheap stuff that does a job. At it years and you enjoy much more than just catching. Lots of lads are using the singles and they are only saying good things. I've not tried them myself. Stick at it mate. I've heard you don't have to strike, just wind down on the fish. Is that what you do or have heard?

    to all you Carp Anglers Out there that don't wanna buy new tackle for deadbaiting: a 3 or 4 lbs Carp rod does the Job very Well. you can cast heavier rigs and bigger deadbaits, plus the fact that Most Carp rods are nice and stiff so you can Set the Hook very nicely across greater distances I for example use a daiwa black widow Carp paired with a kastking sharky baitrunner real. This Setup is really cheap, but it has never let me down!

    great video mate, might have to give dead baiting a go . Went lure fishing yesterday at a small river, got my new pb of 16lb , not too bad. Although the cast before that i got snagged on a tree root, lost my trace (titanium one from chicos) and abu garcia mcmy lure, was pretty annoyed thats alot of money gone lol. thinking about going for a swim to get them back tbh. Are you using the titanium traces from chicos or have you found a cheaper alternative?

  • @riverpiker

    @riverpiker

    7 жыл бұрын

    congrat's on the new pb mate that's a clonking fish mate, massive well done. Regards losing the lure, it does happen sometimes. I used to lose loads when i first started out. do you have heavy braid on as well? Yes i'm using the Chico traces. I do have some AFW traces also but they are virtually the same price. Probably only way you will get titanium traces cheaper is if you buy the wire and make your own. you need good crimps, a crimping pliers and need to test them also.

    im terrible at crimpling , ill just stick with chico traces then mate, only seem to get any damage or anything if you loose one . Ive got 90lb spiderwire 8 strand braid, i changed all the splitrings to lighter ones. I even used ur method of not pulling it immediately, i walked to the side to try pull from the other side, spun my line around my forceps ,(the smooth part) and pulled. Guess i just need to be more careful tbh.

    Hi Matt. I never say to be honest mate as i get asked for spots every day. If you've had a 13 then there's got to be something else about and its got to just be a matter of time before something bigger shows up. The weir pools are always worth a go though this time of year you exepct the fish have dropped back to a deeper part where the bait fish might be. Usual bridges, big bends and deep water should throw something up.

    Lures or bait? Big or small? Thats a decent average size, and obviously there's more of them at that size than 15lb plus, so it's only a matter of time I reckon. Best tip i can give you teo get a 20 out is to take a friend who has never fished for pike before, he'll get one first cast. Always happens! lol good luck mate i'm sure you'll drop on one soon enough

    hello, I have a question: Im a bit concerned about a pike I catched today. the pike was hooked pretty deep, I managed to get the hooks out but once it was back in the water it took the pike about 2 minutes to regain a bit of energy, before it slowly swam away. Im concerned it might die because it seemed to be really exhausted. Could you tell what the chances are it will just be fine and survive? Thanks!

  • @riverpiker

    @riverpiker

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi buddy. Sometimes things go wrong and a pike might not make it. This does not happen too often though so long as you don't treat them badly, leave them out of the water too long or do too much injury to them due to bad hook up or deep hooking. Hopefully it will be ok. You got the hooks out and it might just need a bit of time to recover. May be it swam to the bottom and just relaxed for a while. There is no way of knowing so don't beat yourself up over whether it did or didn't survive. However what you need to do now is just think back how it all went. You mentioned the hook was deep. Would you say it was so far down your couldn't see it? Was it covered by something like a closed hole (its throat) or was it just deep inside but you could still see it? That is the important bit. If it was just hard to reach but you could easily see it, you were unlucky and just a bit tricky unhoking. If it was far down and behind the closed hole, as in your hooks were out of sight, this often means you might have left the bait too long before striking after a bite. Send me back a bit more infomration now and we will see if we can figure out what happened. The important thing here is that we understand if something went wrong and then learn from it.

  • @Dovesei

    @Dovesei

    6 жыл бұрын

    River Piker Thanks for your comprehensive answer. The hook was easily visible and not behind its throat, it was easy to remove the hooks with a set of long pliers. I dont think I could really do much about the deep hooking, since I was fishing with a relatively small spinnerbait and when it did strike, I set the hook immediately. What I think might have happend it that the pike tried to "suck it up" like they sometimes do. After the unhooking the pike bled a bit, I checked where it was bleeding from and it didnt seem to bleed from its gills, but from the wound where the hook used to be. Weird, since normally they dont bleed (maybe because the hook was in soft tissue this time?) Also did I wet the unhooking mat before laying it on. Cheers

  • @riverpiker

    @riverpiker

    6 жыл бұрын

    Ah, then i think there is a good chance it will be fine. I was thinking you were fishing using deadbait because you were asking on this video. Sometimes with bait fishing if you get it wrong that is when you can do lots of damage with deep hooking. The deep hooking you have got is just probably froma hard hit where the pike has totally engulfed the lure. Nothing you can do about that. I think the fish will be fine after a long sulk.

After watching your unhooking video i have more confidence handling them now so thanks for that. Might be a silly question but can you dead bait all year or just in winter ?...(p.s.Thanks for these video's give a lot of information for beginers like me getting into plke fishing) chris.

    good to hear mate cheers for watching. Regards bait fishing for pike. Most long time pikers will tell you to keep away from bait fishing for pike as the warmer months come. Simple reason being that as it warms, the pike seem to swallow the baits quicker which in turn leads to lots of deep hooked pike. Deep hooked pike can be difficult to sort out and even a dead pike. Winter colder months they don't seem to try to swallow the bait so quick so this doesn't happen if you have good bit indication. I personally won't bother with baits from now on. Pike are active and lures will bag you loads of fish.

    Braid is banned on our stretch of river and the two club lakes so we have to use suitable mono.

  • @riverpiker

    @riverpiker

    Some lads still use mono. So long as you have a good breaking strain it is fine mate. Also it has benfits such as better abbrassion resistant so around rocks it is miles better than braid.

    Mono degrades in sunlight (UV) & also simply "ages"...& so it should be changed seasonally if you do a lot of fishing , my brother-in-law lost a fine fish because he was too tight to buy new mono or braid ... I even warned him previously that he'd lose a PB & he ignored me... 😩 I use 30lbs braid for all my deadbaiting, 2 1/2lbs test curve Daiwa Phantom rods, shimano 10,000s & rig is 2oz free-running lead to 18" trace with 2 trebles & a ball float to pop up the deadbait. And delkims to shout at me when I git a run !! 😅 my PB is 27 3/4lbs... 👍😎☘

  • @riverpiker

    @riverpiker

    7 жыл бұрын

    We use a decent lead 3oz is good. Idea is the lead doesn't move at all and isn't picked up by the pike. Pike always has a free line to pull, so very little resistance other than the float. You also need a good lead if you have a big float so that the float isn't lifting the lead off the bottom. hope all that makes sense Mark. cheers bud

    I don't do much pike fishing in summer but basically, get out and cover some water. Use a few lures and you will find them easily. They are much more active and will hot the lures. Dead baits are a no go in summer though.

    Thanks for the help and one last thing, would dead bait still work for the starting few weeks of the season because this winter I haven't managed to get out and try and get them so I was just wandering weather I still have a chance to use dead bait

  • @riverpiker

    @riverpiker

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yes mate. Just be careful though. As it warms up the pike get more active and they will swallow baits really quickly. So if you dont have good bite indication you can end up with a deep hooked pike. Watch your float at all times mate and strike as soon as you see any activity.

    Hi matey. That's great to hear, good luck with it. When i started it was just the odd bit of video footage and I never thought i would be doing what i do now or at this level. It kind of grew out of nothing to be honest. Anyway, biggest tips i could give. Be yourself, people come to watch you and not just you trying to be the next TV presenter. Expect it to take time to grow. There's millions of videos out there, and finding yours is difficult. So spend a bit of time creating catchy thumbnails and using good keywords for the search. spend a bit of time following similar sized youtube fishing channels, comment on their videos and help each other. People who watch their videos will watch yours and vice versa. that will help you get a few views and a few subs. Social media is a good tool. Facebook, twitter, instgram. For your content, try to be original. that's not easy as there's so many channels already doing something. Find your own brand for your videos. Hope that gives you a few ideas mate.

    other things to think about. The films themself. Get some footage, and have a play about making videos. You don't have to upload if you don't think they are what you want. Play about with editing and get comfortable with it. how to add music, merge clips, cut clips and all that. Then also have a think about how you can improve wither with better angles, close ups that kind of thing. Many of my videos are not planned and the video just ends up being stuff whacked together. sometimes, i try to make a better quality video. But it is hard to fish and film if you are a lure angler. Easier if you carp or course fish to play about with the camera and get various angles when you have a bit more free time.
