DEAD MALL | Columbia Place Mall In Columbia, SC

Today I am exploring the Columbia Place Mall. This mall was opened back in the late 1970’s. How many stores are still open? What kind of condition is the mall in after all these years? We are going to find out NOW!

Do you think the Columbia Place Mall will thrive again in the future?

Good update video. On a positive note, Richland County is currently building offices in one of the old anchors for health and law enforcement offices. The mall is way less than 50% occupancy. It’s a shame you did not go into Macys. The entrance from the outside had an amazing two story atrium with massive trees and a walkover bridge. Employees at the Macys have told me the Macys part of the mall is actually owned by the retailer, so there is a chance it might not be on the chopping block for 2024 closure like many other locations. The mall is mostly urban wear and local vendors at this time, which is good to see small businesses having a chance to be in a mall. I assume you will be posting a video of the Richland mall demolition and maybe the dying Dutch Square Mall? The Columbiana Mall is the money mall of Columbia. Lots of growth on the Irmo / Lexington / Lake Murray side of Columbia. The Columbia area has sooooo much dead and dying retail, I could film for days! The city hit very hard times as the agricultural and livestock industries fell here in SC. It’s hanging on thanks to it being the capital city and also USC being downtown and a major economic driver. Lots of northerners moving to SC and Columbia, Myrtle, Charleston, Rock Hill and Greenville are popular relocation spots. Thanks again for the video!

It’s pretty sad that malls just have gone by the wayside. Growing up the mall was the hang out. We would get on a bus Saturday morning and take it to the mall. Play some video games. Check out a couple stores get some food and head home. I hope these malls find a new life that we can enjoy one day.

We have not ever shopped at this mall. I'm sure back in the day this place was hopping. I'm surprised the building is even open with all the issues in the mall. The building has definitely seen it's better days. I also miss malls too!

Sadly malls are a thing of the past. I love walking through trying to imagine what it was like when it was a hustling shopping area. Thanks for watching my friends.

Me too. At least we have our memories. Todays generation will never know how much fun hanging out at your local mall eating junk food and talking to friends is like.

That sounds like good times! I remember driving with a few friends to Charlotte back in the mid 90’s. We went to the Eastland Mall. It had an ice skating rink if my memory serves me correctly. Thanks for watching my friend. Have a great weekend!👍

I imagine that used to be a nice mall. It's just awful that it looks that way now.

That is awesome! I think if you have the right ownership in place. A mall can still thrive.
