So many clever signs that Goku isn't feeling well. The beads of sweat that drop from his forehead, the unnecessarily strained transformation, and the way he makes his energy flare out more than usual. Almost like he's struggling to maintain his form. Really nice attention to detail

yep first time I watched dbz it was being hyped a lot, and when I finally saw it, it felt truly transcendent and legendary, which is why I was shocked and in disbelief on the scene where 18 snaps vegetas arm in two, that there could be such a power out there that could do this to the legendary super saiyan . . .

I think it’s to signify Goku struggling to transform since his energy is draining from the heart virus. You notice that he’s charging harder than usual and even starts sweating before the fight because his body is struggling to maintain all that power

@@josephstalin2606 Nah, Gohan did the same thing when going SSJ2 at the world tournament. It seems they have the ability to make the transformation as slow and dramatic as they wish, even if they could turn Super Saiyan instantly. Trunks transformed very slowly and gradually when fighting Frieza, even though he had been a Super Saiyan for a while at that point. Probably did it to put the fear of death in him. Then Vegeta made a whole show of going Super Saiyan against #19 even though he already achieved the transformation. In his case he probably wanted to show off since it was the first time people would see him as a Super Saiyan.

It helps for self-centering and meditation. Whether that's intentional or not, not sure. The concept of focus and the channeling of ki is a part of the religious culture, or at least it was in the past. So it's no surprise that many people today can draw a similar focus from this scene, and scenes like it.

He didn’t realize Gokus power level was decreasing but he did note that Goku was “out of breath” and that “he (Goku) couldnt have used up that much power just flying here” when they landed.

This is the quintessential super saiyan transformation. It may not be the most epic or craziest one, but it encapsulates the essence of becoming a super saiyan, namely how, at this point in the series, it's a rare and difficult feat to achieve.

Actually, turning super saiyan used to burn through a lot of stamina with each transformation. That's why Goku and Gohan stayed super saiyan so often, to get rid of how taxing it was to use and maintain the form

I really like how Piccolo looks over in shock because he knows that the ki he's sensing isn't full, he's trained with Goku for 3 years and can tell it's not the highest it can go. Tien wouldn't know, the power is so far beyond his.

It's a shame SSB doesn't give off this effect of badassery

The sound designer for DB before Super's anime production had long since reduced himself to working on One Piece.He's pretty close in retirement age.Also Since early production Dragonball all the way to GT had several different animation studio's for its production.Then Toei fully took over themselves with a schedule that in hindsight is significantly more merciful than a post 2017 Mappa.Still pretty bad though.

I don't care what you say, I think this one is better than the one against Frieza, the thing that made this better in my opinion is the build up, we were told that the androids were arriving in 3 years and as soon as Goku gets there, he whips out the big gun Super Saiyan... honestly incredible considering it was only the 3rd or 4th time we had seen it.... The voice acting here is amazing too, Goku's smug voice when he says "you might think you know everything there is to know about me, but you're not even close!" and the voice acting here was actually incredible.. The scream as Goku powers up sends shivers down my spine!

I have to wonder how much more impressive this would have been and how much more intimidated Gero and 19 would have been had Goku not been in the early stages of the heart virus at the time.

Given how Piccolo was enough to take on the Android 19 and 20 here even more so when Gero stated he was stronger than 19 which makes sense since he was a control freak. It wouldnt have been much of a fight

better than all dbs transformations combined

Super will never be this good. EVER. Super wants to be like DBZ, but the raw and amazing talent that this scene shows, is just way beyond anything super could ever do.

The most beautiful art of demonstration of power a character has ever done on history of anime. I am thankful that this character exists because with out it not many good other anime series wouldnt exist. Thank you sir Akira Toriyama

The fact that this is the 3rd or 4th time we've seen a super saiyan transformation in the series, and this one still stands out, is a testament to how perfectly done this scene is.

Why is this animation so much better than super? Lmao it's 2016 and supers animation is so shockingly shit

As someone who is very critical of the old dub music, this track slaps

I mean I love this transformation to me it's so badass from the music the camera angles, animation everything but the transformation on Namek was one of the greatest transformations I've ever seen. I still get chills when I watch it.

It's 2022 and now Goku has every color in the rainbow as a transformation. I miss when transformations were rare, special, and lasted a while before moving on. I miss Super Saiyan being powerful/important, now it's just another transformation

IDK why but at 0:35 when Goku has the black hair and green eyes, it looks bad ass

Miss it all. The way it was animated, the original dialogue and especially the soundtrack!!

Akira and the funamation production team were beyond their time. Dragonball Z funamation English dub is one of the best cartoon shows in history.

What made this scene badass to me besides Goku epic transformation is seeing Tien's reaction.. once a rival of Goku who at one point was as strong as he is, realized that he'll never be on the same level as him ever again.

The theory of supah saiyan: The closer to death, the stronger you'll be. I'll go listen to one hour of justin bieber and i'll come back a saiyan

I listened to Friday by Rebecca Black and became a Super Saiyan Lesbian.

Back when turning super saiyan actually meant something. In DBS with all these different power ups, it's like it doesn't even matter

This never gets old this will forever be a icon and the sound of his transformation with the wave sounds is outstanding, the generation of kids these days wouldn't understand his greatness if you wasn't back in the 90's up to 2000 they will have to go all the way back to dragon ball itself to understand Goku greatness 💯😉😊😈😊

Something that I always noticed in this transformation was how it felt less impressive than Goku's other transformations into a Super Saiyan. There was less of an impact in it, and it didn't feel nor even look as powerful as it was when he transformed in front of Frieza and Trunks. The beads of sweat were also a dead giveaway, as well as the constant need to pump up his energy in order to induce fear in the androids, but it was a definite sign that he was struggling to maintain his power. It was an excellent way of highlighting Goku's apparent sickness.

The Z-Kai dub just doesn't hit like this.
