@@tomer4566that seem pretty reasonable given how much they would have to pay for an in video placement. Hopefully Awol will see a significant in their trade & this is just the beginning of a strong Mutual relationship! I just wish I could afford there kit. @@tomer4566 They sponsored the video from the outset and provided me with the screen. Every video I make is sponsored in a similar fashion, this is how I make my living. You either trust me to be ethical or you don't, but there's plenty of evidence of my ethics over the years, and every video highlights each of the products failings in a section entitled "What's wrong with it". I've lost sponsors for my honesty (sometimes brutal honesty and I'm pretty sure Deebot won't be back), but I won't ever change because I couldn't sleep at night knowing I'd lied to people for money, I'd rather risk my fee and lose a long term opportunity than be a shill.

Fresnel screens are indeed a game changer, been saying it for a while now. Edit: a small correction because I know you love it when I do that... Rainbow Effect isn't caused by the color wheel although it can make it worse. Rainbow is caused by the fact that DLP projects each color (R,G, and B) consecutively rather than simultaneously. Trilasers can flash on and off faster than color wheels can switch so the rainbow effect is lessened, but not completely eliminated like it is on other projector types (3LCD, LCoS, and Single LCD).

As someone whp is a trained tech in this field, this is absoulouty correct. RBE can be minimized by a pulseing tri color laser array ( as seen in later Samsung DLP sets and the only Mitsubishi Laser 72" dlp rptv set back in the mid 2000's ). Not new tech, but updated for 4k ust's and regular projectors.

Additional correction, not all DLP projectors are sequential. DLP projectors are mostly sequential, but there are triple DLP projectors, which also display RGB simultaneously.

Light rejection from the sides-"This is a game-changer." I completely agree. Every time the screens get better, I think of all the space we devote to housing the TV. They make some very nice boxes with additional storage, but they still take at least a foot out of your floor space and require dedicated wall space. Whereas you can put a screen in front of a window and just temporarily use that space. (We live in a small house. We need things to be multi-function.) F2.0, 3500lm, full glass lens: They really went all out on this one. I can see why you want to keep it. The lag times are also fantastic. I suppose there are some Flash-level reflex people who wouldn't play a game with that, but for us mortals, it's not that bad. "It comes with a 4K Firestick": I really like this idea. First, it means that the projector people don't think they have to reinvent the wheel. Second, it means you have an established product with all the lore and workarounds you might need to do what you want already documented. It's a great idea and I wish more folks would do this. Third, as you noted, it allows upgrading. I say this a lot, but I really appreciate that you include the caveats (like the bits with the remotes and the internal speaker). It's good to know all these things before you make a purchase choice. I'd agree, the price is a kicker (but if you want the very best....) Thanks again for a great review. It did seem a little short on the gags this time. (Nothing on the fly?) Nonetheless, it was still great.

Yes, this is a fresnal screen. I actually just got the hard screen version, 100" F100W ALR made by Hisense. With all the lights on and a window behind me it is just wonderfull. It is currently on Amazon for $499 and ships from Beech Camera in NJ. It came in a huge box and on a pallet as it ships by truck. Screen itself weighs about 50lbs, but totally worth it! I am using a VAVA 4k black edition with Harmon Kardon speakers @30watts per chanel, 1800 ansi lumens and it looks fanatastic! I noticed the system of which they use to hang the screen with is identical to the Hisense screens. Hmmmm.........

Great video as always. Funny I was just watching that episode of the IT Crowd last night. Classic stuff. I had erased Rainbow from my memory, but apparently used to watch it all the time. I have the firestick max that you got in the box and one of the cool things about it is you can pair it with your bluetooth headphones or speakers, and then the volume controls work. I have a huge tv and a huge projector setup, and there is just something about the projector that gives it that movie theatre feel, no matter what the resolution. Size is king. Bigger the better.

Game mode disables Keystone correction because that requires image processing and that increases input lag. Probably some processing required for that bit of brightness output as well. That being said, I await the day when these projectors can finally do 4k120 and better.

I was thinking about not doing the movie thing anymore as you're right, it takes ages and the skits hadn;t been getting much love, and then this week there's been loads of comments saying how great they were. Super reassuring, thanks man! The projector actually projects a gigantic image but I hung the screen about 2 inches too low 😫

Great video as always. I'm currently looking for a UST projector, and screen and have considered all the DLP ones including the AWOL ones. This daylight screen is a fresnel type one (manufactured by Vividstorm?) to get that side rejection of light, which would be perfect for my planned usage but as you point out there is no sign currently of any rollup screens.. I'd need a ceiling/wall mounted pull down one eventually and with no sign of one coming I guess I'll have to go for a more traditional lenticular ALR screen that will only reject light from above :/ One downside of these fresnel screens is as you point out viewing angle so its not suitable for a room where someone could be sat wide off axis from the centre.. I thought i'd read they can be fussier with hot spots too, but yours looks great. Unfortunately I just can't risk suffering from rainbows and sadly a triple laser doesn't eliminate rainbows, it just changes and potentially reduces (or worsens) them. The colour wheel for different colours is replaced by 3 separate lasers for each colour, they still have to fire onto a single DLP chip in series for each colour and it's thats discrepancy that can lead to rainbows in both cases. The only DLP solution to remove rainbows is a triple DLP one any of which make this projector look affordable! If you could go and spend time looking at certain projectors and seeing if you can see rainbows on them then be fairly confident a particular model would be ok for you then that'd be something but that's just not easy to do seemingly, especially for a lot of these brands like AWOL or Formovie :/ The only UST that guarantees not having any rainbow effect are the Epson ones like the LS800, which are triple LCD displays and can drive all colours for all pixels at one point in time. The LS800 is also brighter than the AWOL at 4000 lumens and has actual measured input latency of around 20ms at 60hz, whereas sadly the AWOL latency measurements are not near to the timings that they claim, more like 80ms unfortunately. Sadly the LS800 only does a 2x pixel shift to get 2x1080p resolution instead of the 4 shift of most other ones like this AWOL which gets you closer to a true 4K on screen image. It's all so frustrating, but at these prices its just frightening to take a punt, especially if it involves international shipping (and potential returns) Love your work though, still torn too about what home security cameras to get so will keep an eye out for more of your videos on them!

Huge error here. Laser projectors are not immune from Rainbow Effect. This projector is not immune from RBE. Even though it lacks a color wheel it is still a single chip DLP. It still must produce color sequentially. It’s three laser NOT three chip. Instead of a single lights source filtered through a color wheel- its three light sources cycled rapidly. Different technique: same result. It’s just that modern 4K DLPs produces pixels at a pace of 240Hz to make the pixel shifting work. So RBE is much less a problem for MOST people. But the only way to be 100% free of the artifact is to go with a 3 chip projector (Epson/Sony/JVC).
