day two SAGE and Ranger
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
We made it to day 2 with Sage, it was uncertain how she would fair through the night.
There is so much that happens moment to moment, that is not recorded, please be reminded that you are getting glimpses of what happens here, and sharing pieces of our journey brings us joy.
Sage's name came instantly, there was no hesitation on what to call her. She is petite tiny, scary thin & visibly unsettled we have literally spent every waking moment being close to her in reassurance for her comfort. Ranger has slighted her, and has yet to make friends, he is either jealous of her presence or perhaps dominate in his home grounds either way, he makes it clear he's going to ignore her.
Ranger has a simple routine that was created over his weeks here, he gets visits with Freckles (one of our older geldings) and his endless attention from us, his vet check ups where all Clean and Clear, he is one healthy boy.
Sage has a high flight instinct and her in ability to rest by herself is wearing on her. The second we go to leave her, she starts calling out in a high pitch neigh and scrambling after us. We have started to taking turns being with her at all times, so that she can rest and nap without the worry of being left behind. Her little body is still in a state of exhaustion, it's an effort to fold her legs up to lay down, but she is drinking regularly and making efforts to walk around around.
Midday in the weekend, her vet messages to ask how she is doing.... which was ironic timing, as her wound just started to seep. We discussed what it looks like, and the fact that she seems to be in less pain now (she was zooming around the yard!!) the Vet popped in for a surprise visit about 30 minutes later (yes he's a saint) and examined her wound. It was immediately decided that she needed an emergency surgery on her umbilical area; her skin that was in the hematoma was being necrotic and it needed to be cut away instantly. So she was sedated, and he performed a surgery right there in our yard, cutting away all the nasty tissue and cleaning out the rest of the area that was apparently infected under her swelling. This was a blessing and we are incredibly grateful to have such amazing vets who are invested in the care of these foals.
We now have a filly who needs continuous care and attention, Ranger who is having tantrums and humans who are researching, googling and learning how to best raise these foals. We have given into Ranger just being content with us and Freckles for raising him (he will go out with the herd once he's older) but we are concerned for Sage, she would thrive so much more from the love of a mare, and on the side we are trying to put the word out that we are seeking a nurse mare for her.....
Thankyou for following along with the feral foals journeys, we are happy to share their stories with all you.

My filly was bucket fed. Thankyou for being such kind people for taking care of the feral herd. Foals are so lucky.
Having raised an orphan foal I know how challenging this task is (he was able to get enough colostrum before his mother died). I bottle fed mine for 6 weeks every 3 hours around the clock (while working full time training horses). He was my best buddy and turned into a World Champion show horse. You guys are hero's!!

It is a lot of work, and yes we blood test both of these foals to check all their levels, both had more than enough colostrum in their system ♥️

She’s very silvery so she’ll likely shed out black. I love black horses but I always wish they’d keep that grulla silver!
It is nice that Ranger and Sage have each other, along with lovable Uncle Freckles.
Ranger looks so good. He has really gained some weight. If anyone can get Sage through this, y'all can!

Colt and filly. Sage is a girl.
Although it’s been a couple of years now - it never gets old. She was so precious and I still just love the fact that not only did she get a second chance at life - she enjoys a high quality of life. Truly you are doing God’s work.
I want to see in the future how Ranger and Sage look like as grownups . 😆
Thank you for sharing “the days of their lives,” those babies are so lucky to have good people like your family rescuing/rehabilitating them. I think what you do is a real effort of love and I applaud y’all.I really miss having little ones around to snuggle with...Looking forward to the next vid.

Well let's pray to God, that Sage makes it. The first 10 days are critical for her survival. If Sage makes it to 2 weeks, than her future is bright. Ranger we know is 100% a healthy boy.

They are so precious ❤🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for saving these babies. This has got to be exhausting you physically and financially. I hope you can find a nurse mare for Sage.
Bless your hearts for what you are doing. I had a mare that rejected her foal. So I was her mother. She turned out to be an excellent barrel horse. There was a lot of time caring for her. Love my horses.
I know the hematoma looks scary, but I have had a horse, and it was healed, slowly, but turned out just fine. Sage is a beautiful girl!
Those baby's are so precious. And you guys are the sweetest people . God bless you.
I so admire your dedication in saving these precious foals. I'm sure that they, in turn, are making your life so much more enjoyable.
Little whinnie. Little one. Cute. Hes so happy you saved him and loves you so much for it.
Ranger has such beautiful big eyes, you can look into them and just melt. Sage is just beautiful.
God Bless you for saving these babies. You are hero’s in my book! ❤️💕❤️💕❤️
Sage is so beautiful. Both foals are sooooo cute! I miss being around horses.
I love the way that you weren't going to get attached. Easier said than done. Precious hoof babies. Peace ☮️ in abundance
You guys are definitely a godsend to those 2. Both are beautiful. Sages color is really pretty. Definitely lots of devotion to raise them. Just like a newborn.
I love the sound of foals. They are so cute. How can someone not help? Great job 🤩🥰🙏🏻
Sage is so beautiful! I'm curious to see how she's going to change as she gets the proper nutrition and gets older. I love what you're doing!!! I'm living vicariously through you!!! Horses are my favorite!!! I grew up on a street called "Horseshoe Blvd" even! ❤❤❤❤🐎🐎🐎🐎
Well, I just found you - and dang you have a monumental challenge there. God bless you both, and Ranger and Sage. Thank you for caring - if the worst happens, you will still have the satisfaction of knowing these foals knew love. Although, it is clear Sage's mother loved her and wanted to stay with her. I feel for them, but the stallion decided, he was not losing both of them, and Sage could not follow.
What sweethearts. They are lucky to have you.
Thank you for caring enough to save both babies
The bonding taking place there is beautiful, 👍🤗💜
All of you have a place in heaven. God bless
The leg behind her ear is too adorable. Being able to lay in a field next to a foal, oh, how I wish I could be there! Have you thought about offering a couple of beds as a "working" vacation? They would pay you to help out. Just a thought. ❤

These two are just so adorable , they are so lucky that they have you in their lives and I believe the future is very bright for all of you. Really enjoying their journey
You all are earthbound angels. If it werent for you finding them, I dont think they'd still be here. I also love that you are from the no bit school. I think that is so terrible to put those near a horses teeth and so unnecessary. God bless!
Thank you for helping.♥️🙏
They are just babies. Thank you for what you do.
A foals winnie is as dear as a human baby's laugh. 🐴💞👶

Oh my goodness you found another Baby ... God is smiling as now both have a Family that will love and take wonderful care of them. Congratulations. Ohh they are just so so precious. Will both of them be alright and be healthy 100% with time?. Sage and Ranger are both Beauties. Your adult Horses are beautiful too. Thank you.
This is so different than the dynamics of treatments that are used for ponds, your talking on the video gave a touch of gentle kindness 😊that is so satisfying with the GOOD results 😀
Care, patience and love. You are doing a great kindness.
Rangers ribs are less apparent in this vid. Progress is right. What gorgeous horse! Well done people!
Well done for taking care of the animals.
What a blessed life you all have🙏 💙 💜

I hope they go from strength to strength. ❤️
I've watched all your videos & love them ! Your husband so so great with these little babies & they seem to love him back.
Thank you for everything you do . It’s going to be a sad, sad world, when they are all gone-thanks to the greedy humans.
Oh my ..such a beautiful thing your doing.. I can barely see this keyboard three the happy/sad tears
Thank you for what ya'll do.
He is so happy.
Hard to watch such a wonderful creature have problems. Let’s hope they’ll have a great future.
Sage's color is GORGEOUS
Love your channel. I had a mare that rejected her filly. My daddy and brother got mare to finally let filly eat. I took over because I refuse to let my baby die. Got my vet out to give her a clean bill of health. Got couple of big calf bottles and fed her. All these videos have brought back so many memories. Thanks and keep filming.
Beautiful babies.
I'm so glad that they have you and that you seem to have a wonderful team helping you. As for Sage's closeness, it makes sense because she was abandoned by the herd and is afraid of being left behind again. Thank you for sharing these moments with us.
She is gorgeous 😍
