If you jump your fithwheel to make it easier just raise your fithwheel at the point of jump, roll the landing gear down, lower the fithwheel and pull out. No need for a bottle or apparatus.

I was pulling loads for 10 years with JBH and I just decided to go into the yard about 2 months ago cuz of a more consistent schedule and a much needed break from delivering to NYC everyday. Luckily my time with the company afforded me a lateral move in income. Its just way more routine and consistent and better than coming in everyday not knowing where im going until I get handed my load or given a choice between a few loads. Also nice break from all the traffic, roadwork and asshole drivers. I love it! My hourly rate is $30.16, 5 days on 50 hours total. So a little over $1,500 gross and a little over $1,000 take home. Now if it were 2019 in a Trump economy that income would be stellar but unfortunately in this 2022 Biden economy the money dont go nearly as far cuz literally every expense I have from rent, food, gas, heating oil, electric etc etc has gone up by at least double for me with exception of rent which went up about 20% so it really sucks that an income that is great just a couple years is now just below average for the cost of living. Ny is also terribly governed and is a very tax & regulation heavy unconstitutional nightmare of a state so that aint helping me out either. It's just not right how expensive everything is and it all was completely avoidable if it weren't for the war on American energy and the proxy war in Ukraine this current administration has pursued. Im praying that mid terms go the right way and that 2024 brings Maga back so us down here can prosper again cuz it was so good those 4 years.

Also do they train you before they hand you the keys? What advice would you give to those who are starting this position and wanting to gain more experience with trucking before getting a CDL?

It's not other drivers. It's because we don't touch dolly legs and the elevation of the ground where we drop the trailers is not always the same as the elevation we pick them up from. As far as the OTR drivers whining and snivelling. Suck it up. It's part of the job. There's a low gear on that crank handle for a reason.

That used to happen to me all the time as a yard jockey before yu back under a trlr always raise the fifth wheel up .... To make the fifth wheel to go up faster give it a little gas ...an dont lower it to much cuz the wheels will come off the ground a lil ......an the tires will spinn... soon as the landing gear touch the ground stop right there...i was gettin paid 18 an hour to do that...but i quit cuz i ripped to many doors off the hinges having to park trlrs bone tight next to one another with doors always open.....it was a funn job but i would see the otr drivers come in an i would get to missin the road life

It actually is us the Yard Hostlers that raise the landing gear all the way up. For example, at my Yard if the driver brings an empty they have to opened the doors & slide the tandems all the way to the back. If I get a move & it’s a trailer that they brought in & they didn’t open then doors, i raise them all the way up just to be an ass. I bet they have a good time cracking it up with all that weight on it when they pick up..

💕 😂😂😂 you are so funny young lady, stay with God, I've been driving cross country since 2013, at 60 years old, I'm about to go and try to do the job you're doing, the ducks look nice, but the dogs and the cats on the inside of the house.. jumping on tables I get up to put my clothes on and I got cat fur on my clothes, I'm eating a meal at the table, damn cats in the window, wind blowing cat girl on my food.. they crapped on said well with me at all, I told this woman from the beginning when we first met come when your bring cats and dog in the house, then I'm out, not only that, we're in a pandemic now, but when she met me I was in church, so she followed me to church to see who I was seeing, 😂 I was trying to get my damn life together, all the drinking and drugging I've done.. now it's May 18th 2021 and we're at the back side of this pandemic, so what about to see some light at the end of the tunnel here in Raleigh North Carolina and all of them most of the states.. animals are pretty, I like to see them outside, sorry that's just me.. but let's stay with God, we can't lose, with this world in the way the policemen are killing our brothers and sisters.. they know damn quicks in the White House, child molesters, you name it, well let me get on to watching you give me some idea of what I'm supposed to be doing out there so I won't be so nervous.. you doing a great job baby girl.. I appreciate you.. Levon.. Raleigh North Carolina...

Can you be new cdl holder to be a yard jockey? I would think it would be good experience for any future trucking careers. Can any experienced truckers give me any advice? 🤔

start raising the filth before you hook up to the trailer. You should feel the weight of the trailer. Once you hear the pin lock do a little tug...raise the trailer and roll with it. once you're done before you let the trailer down roll the dolly's up a little and set the trailer down. Disconnect and go to the next one.
