    I learned a way to fix glasses so they are better without arms. Take both arms off and thread a 3/64 string into each side. Then if you have a slide button like ones on gear you can use it to adjust glasses.

    Awesome update. So love your videos. You’re getting to my neck of the woods. I’m about an hour from Kennedy Meadows North, but you’re probably through that by now. Snow is melting soooo fast. I’ll be on the JMT later this summer and am already worrying about water carries. I’m 60, so had to wait for no ice axe conditions. I’m good with watching you all with that, doesn’t inspire me to do on my own :)

    Just went to a podiatrist yesterday for the same bump/pain... ( and pain around inside of ankle) he said its from dropping arches... I got new orthotics coming... maybe you could get a new/better insole? I also do foot exercises, one legged stands, heel raises(Slow up and down), and toes crunches (with a towel under foot)

    I never imagined Plagueville would be so beautiful looking! My feet are sensitive on the top,and I always re lace my shoes to skip the area that I feel pressure. Try eating the ramen with peanut butter, it's tasty and adds fat and protein (don't put the p.b. in the broth,it will dissolve). ✌🏼

    It could be a ganglion cyst forming.. it's a fluid filled cyst that forms along tendons. I had one on my foot and had to have it drained and the podiatrist said it can be caused by injury. You can have peanut butter and bananas in the morning!

    😂😂 a trick we learned from another thru hiker two year ago!

  • @BryHikes
    @BryHikesАй бұрын

    14:28 I had this issue with a pair of altra lone peaks. My guess is the padding on the tongue of the shoe is too thin and this is combining with the tightness and thinness of the laces cutting into your top of foot, causing some abrasion ontop of you foot. Perhaps try switching to a different pair of shoes, laces or maybe a different style of socks too. Best of luck Birdcall!! Been watching y'all since the "tent incident" and I am now invested in your success!

  • @BryHikes

    @BryHikes

    Could also be the arch on your shoe sole has worn down and maybe not as stiff as it was in the beginning, maybe causing the puffiness How old are your current shoes rn?In my case, I stopped using them altras and switched to a different style of shoe and all was healed.

    If Birdcall could pad that area on the top of his foot, it would help but I have the same thing and had mine x-rayed and it's from dropped arches. Get a MUCH better insert for that and you will get some relief. Soak often in one of those river crossings and add some padding where laces hit it. Good luck!

  • @RC-qf3mp

    @RC-qf3mp

    Ай бұрын

    Correct. Nothing magical in apples or bananas either - lots of fiber, so you’re carrying pre-poop. Basically sugar, water and fiber. Calorie-poor and nutrient-poor. Bananas have potassium, but you can get more from pistachio nuts and a good electrolyte salt mix. Salad, tomatoes, etc. are all heavy with water - not calories. The peanut butter from Boujee is probably the best hiker food in your pack. Look at total calories divided by weight.

    @@bumblebeeflyaway water can be easily managed. Food is for calories, not water. And 3 bananas-much of the water in the peel. Are they eating bananas peel? This is old hiker wisdom for thousands of years at least. The complete opposite of this food is what hikers have traditional taken on long treks - pemmican. Dried animal meat and fat. The complete opposite fresh fruit.

    Nice to know. I am rarely hungry on trail and often force feed myself for a bit of energy, mind you I have not gone beyond 10 days out, but planning the JMT this summer, so it’s been very tricky trying to plan. I’m 60 and can’t eat processed foods much.

  • @RC-qf3mp
    @RC-qf3mpАй бұрын

    Your food is ‘heavy’, i.e, not getting much calories per ounce or nutrient value per ounce compared to other options. You say you have lots of Ramen - that’s not an efficient source of calories. Olive oil, animal meat/fat (tuna packets in olive oil, or salmon in olive oil), peanut butter, nuts/seeds all much better if you’re trying to cut weight (and get more calories for the weight you carry). Cheetos is mostly air and chemical junk. Eat whatever you want, but calories per ounce is an objective measure. I aim for 150 calories per ounce average for all the food i take on a hike. Also need to measure the package itself for accuracy and consider repackaging if appropriate.

    Yes, and there's tastier options too. Like cheese, butter, honey, summer sausage, avocados, dried mangoes, etc. That's my preference :) I hiked the PCT and overdosed on couscous, bars and peanut butter 😅 I understand how at some point its hard to eat the most calorie dense stuff.

    Sorry but that's horrible advice which can lead to fatigue, muscle weakness, digestive problems, impaired immune function, kidney problems. Carbs is the primary energy source for muscles. For long hikes excessive protein intake can put stress on the kidneys to process waste products. Oils, nuts & meats are good but please don't live off of those, especially on the PCT. You don't want to get nutrient deficiencies.
