i believe Thai version of Ramayana is called Ramakien...it is depicted on the walls of grand palace i think? It's on my list of things to see when I go to BKK. Interested to hear about your G Adventures experience. I often see their ads and they look compelling! Safe travel!

Oh it is HEAVEN on this planet! I really wanted to bring an entire store back with myself; I miss those Thai 7-elevens SO much 😄 Oh, you'll always have a few bad situations like that regardless of where you travel to...but I feel that the universe ALWAYS has a way to make it up to you and bring that good karma; every experience and person I met after that, made dealing with that woman TOTALLY worth it

How I think for that rude time @ 711? Definitely was tricky situation actually the Tea Cap wasted could have be Stores Policy to pay who knows :) @ list they did't nail you especialy that woman..etc. Personaly I will pay & smile out :) It took me years to realize in many situation was caused me stressful times. To day I m much better than before:) So its up to you + its a Foreign country and its much different than the West :)

Absolutely. Policies and norms in every country are vastly different depending on the location and for the most part, people are REALLY understanding and accommodating to someone who is new to their country and doesn't know the rules ☺ As a traveler, you will have those one-off instances like I had with that lady and it can be stressful in that moment, but I quickly forgot about the confrontation with that lady as I met such wonderful people later in that same day (at the temple, the bus, the manager at the hotel...everyone!) ☺ Thanks for your input Harry! 😀

Unfortunately, some Thais have a negative perception of Indian tourists because some Indian tourists can be rude and pushy with Thai vendors. The rude lady at the 7-11 more than likely was prejudiced against Indian tourists from past experience not realizing that you were Canadian. Chinese tourists are perceived the same way because they can also be pushy and rude but just like Indian tourists, Chinese tourists are needed to help sustain the economy. Regardless, there was no excuse for that lady to be rude to you, especially when she didn't work at the 7-11! That is not normal Thai behavior. She was a bad apple in the bunch. You made the best choice out of two worst choices to de-escalate the problem, otherwise, the police could have gotten involved which would have made the situation even worse!

Kevin, your words are REALLY encouraging :) And absolutely. You WILL always have a tiny minority of people like those, at any new corner of the world for a traveler; does it sour your experience in that moment? Yes. But nature has its way to make up and in that same day I met a bunch of cool people too (right from the manager at Ibis styles, the mom and daughter duo in the bus to a REALLY cool local man who encouraged me to go into the temple as I was hesitant, thinking that I was not dressed appropriately for it) in that same day who made me forget about all that happened at the 7-eleven! And yea, being in a foreign country the LAST thing you'd want is to get involved in a negative situation with the police; that kept running in the back of my head during the entire time I was in the confrontation with that lady.

@@ByteSizedJourneys - Cultural differences between Thai and Indian culture, and Thai and Chinese culture could lead to misunderstandings and confrontations. What may be perceived as rude in Thailand may be normal in India and in China. Since the lady worked at the money exchange booth, she could have met some Indian tourists who could have complained rudely about the exchange rate between the rupee and the baht. Chinese and Indian cultures incorporate hard bargaining which could be annoying to some people. Over time, she developed a negative perception of Indians from her experiences at her job. That prejudice manifested itself at the 7-11 with you as her victim.
