Day 16: The Most Intense Encounter Yet, Ultimate Chess Match

Day 16: The Most Intense Encounter Yet, Ultimate Chess Match
With rain coming down, I'm back in the same cedar grove with my recurve, continuing what is turning into the ultimate chess match. It's not long before he steps out earlier than he has, and it gets intense as he works my direction.

    Cant tell you how much I enjoy a channel that is about a story/adventure as apposed to inches,dirtnap,smack down talk. Reminded me of my 12yr old self with my red wing recurve and big woods deer up close back in 65'. Thanks for taking viewers along. Best regards

    How smart is this buck, even with other deer feeding in area already still walks to edge and assesses threats. Mature deer get to maturity for a reason! Definitely resonate a lot with your style of hunting. In it for the challenge. Everyone’s a little different and I personally love to be in the wheelhouse with the deer, instead of hunting from a cozy setup 100-200y away. Good stuff!

    I like the way you give a brief talk at the beginning and end and let your video tell the story. So many of these guys and gals seem to think they have to talk and talk and never shut up. Some are really good hunters but It drives me nuts. Thanks, great job. I also have confidence your spot will pay off if you don't run out of time. Good luck

    Man Jared, i commend you on sticking to your guns with the recurve! Most would have grabbed the compound or crossbow and shot him at 40yds. Im amazed at how much you are able to get way with in that spot. His 6th sense is definitely working against you. Keep at it man!

    Man he demonstrates everything a mature buck does and acts. Always examines the field from the edge. Walks with his nose. Pushes off immature bucks. The way you capture this is worth a thousand words. Hny Jared. Jerod in Ky

    I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating. I watch a lot of hunting shows. No other show makes me feel as if I’m in the woods with you as yours does. Keep up the good work. Also, LOVE that you have no music. Hate music during hunting show.

    Seems those deer definitely know where your spot is. They might not know that you're in it currently, but they sure do know to look at that tree before venturing out too far. Awesome video as always. I second what others have said about letting the video tell the story without all the unnecessary talking and B-roll.

    While sitting in stand on last day of MN season had a thought. Jared have you ever checked camera noise? Maybe recording sets off a high sound that's not enough to scare them but alerts them. It woud explain why later he is accustomed to it and drifts down closer. Something to check out.

    So fun to be able to go out and see your target buck night after night. Amazing you've had the wind cooperate long as it has. I think either your luck or his is about to run out! If it were me, I'd get over where he comes out in a tree. It looked like at least a couple deer were eyeballing the blind (they may be picking up your ground scent after dark?) Looking forward to see the outcome. Is the 10pt you were hunting before with the recurve still alive?

    What’s up! It’s the 31 so couple days behind …but that peninsula across from where u sit u can make some sort of natural blind couple sticks or even guile suit? Or even move up toward the top of hill? I’m sure u already thought of all this just talking out loud but I do think the gig is up in that cedar ..seems like every time he comes that 6th sense says to stay away from ur spot..can’t wait to see next vid!

    For sure, he's obviously comfortable there. The other thing that is helpful is that brassica plot is somewhat secluded and serves as staging area before they head out to the open food at dark.

    Can you maybe stick something out in that field, just to grab his attention? I was wondering if you could literally dig a hole, toss a cedar in it, just so he sees something that wasn't there before. Maybe out of curiosity he would come in to investigate that odd lone tree, and give you a shot? I'm just tossing out an oddball idea that I'd probably try this late in the game

  • @jaredmills

    @jaredmills

    6 ай бұрын

    Yeah I've thought about that too. I may try it, but there's some risk to it too. I may spook some of the deer that are bedded close when I go to do it and I also risk him (or other deer) not responding well to it and changing his pattern when I feel like I'm so close to getting it done the way it is. We'll see, thanks for the input!
