Day 15: Possibly the OLDEST Deer I've Ever Hunted!

Day 15: Possibly the OLDEST Deer I've Ever Hunted!
Back in the same spot on the ground, recurve in hand, my target buck steps out earlier than the night before. I also made a recent discovery based on trail cam history; this may be the oldest buck I've ever hunted.

Man! Good hunting! My son & a couple daughters are now hooked. They are gathering around my place at lunch to see if you see him &/or harvest. We are pulling for you. My 12 year old son said just take the compound in and get him. Lol! He doesn't grasp the accomplishment element just yet. He will. Thank you.

Man, he's a nice, big buck! I am really liking the great footage you're throwing at us. It's a lot of enjoyment watching those beautiful animals. You and your camera gear gets the job done with an A+. Today is our last day of modern gun... well, we have three more days for doe only with modern gun (private land only). I might just wait 'til it's over and fill my last tag (doe) by archery hunting. Thanks, Jared. Stay after him!

That ole bruiser has seen better days. Did anyone notice at 6:15 how the buck wobbled in his back-end, and again at 10:15? I couldn’t quite tell if it was hips or left rear leg. Good luck Mr. Jared.

Jared I’ve watched you for a long time. I appreciate your serious approach to hunting as well as your respectful reaction when you are successful. Traditional equipment isn’t for everyone and requires a commitment that really isn’t understood until it’s been experienced. I’m confident that this wasn’t a spur of the moment decision for you and so my advice would be to stick to your commitment. I switched back and forth between compound and recurve for several years before just giving my compound away and 100% committing to traditional equipment. I’ve been fortunate enough to be successful a few times and I promise you the reward will be worth the wait. That being said good luck with whatever you decide and again I appreciate your videos. My 15 year old son is ate up with hunting and sadly there’s a lot of hunting content on KZread that I prefer he not watch. You’re not one of them and he never misses a video. I appreciate your example. Nate from Oklahoma

Hey Nathan, thanks for the kind words and the support. What you said about traditional equipment is spot on. I certainly see myself eventually going 100% traditional. There are a couple things that are holding me back right now, and that is 1) Just gaining some more experience overall with it and 2) Having more spots setup that are more accommodating to recurve hunting. That will probably be an offseason project. But after spending a lot of time with it this year in my hand, it's one of those things I wish more people could experience. It's not just a lesser weapon, it completely changes the way a guy hunts and thinks about everything. Thanks again to you and your son as well.

Let me join the compound club - Trad equipment, on the ground, late season, with a next to ground green food source, self filming, Does everywhere. He will have to be outside 10 yards to be able to move off the camera to your weapon and outside 20 is to far........ add in late season alertness and the needed factors of stopped, relaxed and quartering away perfectly. Not many factors working in your direction. Adding the extra 20 yard wide window gives you a more realistic chance from that cedar tree anyway.

All really good points, and part of my thought process. The range would also allow me to potentially hang and hunt on the other side of him, giving me another wind option which would be big. But still a tough decision!

Haha. I've been hearing that a bunch lately. I'm not sure if I'll switch or not, I'd love to finish the job the way I set out to do, as it's not just about the kill for me. But at the same time, taking him with a compound from the ground isn't an easy feat either. Plus I have a good amount of history with this deer, I think he's at least 9.5 years old. So, we'll see. Thanks for watching!

At some point I assume he will but he's too close to finishing him with the recurve to give up on it just yet, which is his main goal. It's not about killing him just to kill him. It's about the hunt.
