In dawn of war 2 retribution you can actually hear 👂 the guardsmen in their battle cry "hammer 🔨 of the emperor! Attack!" To me i love that war cry and its the reason why I love the imperial guardsmen more than space marine! Also I love the fact that this game gives you catachan devils as separate unit which catachan devils are my most favorite imperial guard regiment!

12:04 - Airdropping a tank out of nowhere into enemy lines? That could only be the work of some tactical geniu-CREEEEEEEEEEEED!

First time I saw the board game, it did kind of remind me of StarCraft. When that music queued, I had an epic flash back lol! great video.

+USMC444817 (a year late) Fun fact, StarCraft was originally meant to be a 40k game, however games workshop pulled funding, blizzard carried on with it with enough changes to lore and models they were not the same; though if you take a close look, you can see the many, many similarities there.

Seargents are my favorites, it seems like there holding entire squads together, toting laspistol and chainsword.

In the game they clearly are must have because un-upgraded guardsmen are one of the weakest infranty in the game. With the seargent they become more potent both survival and attack damage.

With the Heavy Bolter team, how come one man has to hump the gun,shield,bipod and ammo all by himself?

heavy weapon team in DoW is much more badass he carried his giant gun, the ammo probably hundreds of them, the sandbags to make a circle roughly 3 meter in diameter, and his mate on his backpack all by himself

Baneblade seem much more powerfull in Dawn of War compare to DoW2

@darksaiyan2006 Bear in mind the main gun when fired at the ass of an enemy tank is an instant kill :-p. Also the Demolisher cannon will take out quite a bit of blobbed troops, however you are right. Due to the cooldown and the fact that the main weapons are abilities it means its very vulnerable to Anti-tank melee troops around it. Nobs, claw terminators, and other at units as long as they stay up close can have fun with it.

@TheViktard Bayonets is a veterancy upgrade. IE When you rank up through playing public custom games with people or play online ranked your army gains veterancy and their look will change. These are just rank 1 guardsmen. Higher ranked guardsmen are usually fully decked with bayonets, grenades, and extra ammo.

@HellFox83 It's also sort of odd how each and every bolter and other weapon stops firing when it charges up the Demolisher cannon. It's like the death star would stop each and every turbo laser battery to fire the death ray.

@Pengzor Exactly! The only way I found to even survive a set ammount of time was to horde all your troops into one big group and just charge the enemy positions, if that does'nt work your screwed. Why make the IG so weak and underpowerd when they are a key race in the warhammer 40k universe and as yo said as soon as enemy armour is available they just roll over the infantry and obliterate the armour. Is there any other tactic for IG besides hording?

@jerpao13 nicknamed red, zeal, etc. its the resource generated when you take losses or kill enemies or blow up stuff. You use it to unleash your global commander abilities.

Oh, boy. Kiddies, Starship Troopers and Dune set the foundations of what would eventually become Warhammer 40,000. As for Blizzard, both Warcraft and Starcraft were slated to become Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 games, respectively, but because of lack of being able to agree on certain terms, they scrapped the project half way and it instead became the games we know today. Oh, and power armor is the first cited within Starship Troopers, and Psykers in Dune. The more you know.

Dune and Starship Troopers inspired 40k. LotR inspired Warhammer fantasy and WoW alike. Starcraft was a HUGE ripoff of 40k which came before it.

MrDustyMonk Yes, and GamesWorkshop said no to Blizzard, so Blizzard made StarCraft, instead. Perhaps it is better this way.

Warhammer 40000 steals the idea for Tyranids from Alien's Xenomorphs and no-one bats an eye. Starcraft steals the idea for Zerg from Warhammer 40000's Tyranids and everyone loses their minds.

@CrashnSpyro4Evar yea missed that part (the animation looked real sloppy though there is an example of execution in the video reply) essentially if you issue a retreat order you can break the retreat by having the commissar kill a squad member. They break out of retreat but then they will be unable to retreat for a bit.

@ACFriday6 Something to remember about the Eldar is that for every moment where they have aided the Imperium they have also wrecked a horrible atrocity against them. Worst case, the Eldar caused the rise of Ghazghkull Thraka, the most powerful Ork warlord in the galaxy and who has caused a perpetual war in one the Imperium's most important sectors and claimed billions of lives. Their reasons for doing so, he was the only Ork warlord that would rise to power whose interests didn't threaten them.

@Pifacedude from what I can tell, after the ability to fire recharges it reloads. It can only fire via its ability, but it hits an area with four missiles as you see in this. it needs to use this ability to fire, otherwise it uses the HB

@YajimaKenji You can use Shuma's Guardsmen skins to change that.

@Brcko4s Cheaper to produce and maintain the great quantity of guns needed I'm guessing, not to mention ammo if you use conventional guns instead of rechargeable power cells.

@MrSedsone Their role has pretty much been taken by the Stormtroopers. Though if you like they do have a skin mod to change them into Karskins.

@GoxtA as far as i know, its already out but they're slowly adding the other races along the way

@Immanio You could get a skin mod pack. Shuma is actually making a conversion for Death Korps as we speak. Essentially they have made modding more friendly now as all you have to do for skins is stick em here, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dawn of war ii - retribution beta\GameAssets\Mods if the folder doesn't exist you make it. I currently got pirate Orks in beta and Diomedes FC has a helmet again.

I soo can't wait to play this game :) I'm a huge IG fan; hey are they team colorable in campaign too [not just online]? and also those Ogryn are really a mess :( Ogryns are like they were in DOW - WA, They are not just large sized humans... they are OGRES!!!

i might have a suggestion for an ability for the guardsman squad. Lasguns can self destruct and the blast is said to be able to crack the front armor of a chaos dreadnought. Since guardsmen are rubbish in melee, why not make one of them detonate their lasguns just like the chaos heretic detonate ability. I think that would be pretty cool to see.

@ACFriday6 The Lemun Russ is actually modeled after a much older tank design that for various reasons was consider out of date before WWII even began. Why is a MBT for a futuristic era modeled after, no clue, GW just seems to have a thing for giving the Imperial Guard vehicles that are modeled after obsolete designs.

Because said Commissar was the same Colonel Nelson who had a habit of standing up from the cuppola of a tank and wave his sword around in an effort to drive his men to close-quarters and try to hit the enemy vehicles with his sword (No, really, there's a weapon in the Imperial Guard campaign that tells this story in its flavour text =P)

The idea began as a birthday present from the Techpriests of Mars to a Commissar Lord. They wanted to surprise him with a Leman Russ tank, So they managed to make some parts retractable and put it in the normal ordinance delivery.
