"Bring 5 disposable adventurers in to Tomb of Horrors." Bring in a fistful of character sheets each and run it like a DCC funnel adventure. There were 20 pregens in the original module.

@cak01vej I'd alter somethings about it first. If you want to run it as the ultimate challenge then ToH isn't really what you want. The dungeon is designed to challenge the players, not the characters so whether the players are level 1 or 20 the dungeon will still be just as hard aside from the 2-3 combats in it. If you want a tough adventure for level 20 players then I'd recommend running them through the Tomb of the Nine Gods with some additional enemies and maybe increasing the stats of enemies in the dungeon. I'd also recommend forcing players into the A and B fights (Only showing first letters for spoiler purposes in case anyone is playing it but you'll know what I'm talking about if you read it). Also maybe throw an Ancient Dragon in there and add more enemies to the the "final boss". Also make them fight Accerak as the real final boss. I'd recommend banning some spells like Wish, Scrying stuff etc so that the dungeon is still a challenge.
Oh, Hoarde of the Dragon Queen got the same score as Curse of Strahd. I can't wait to play HotDQ to relive my CoS experience.

Jokes aside, the 4/10 is actually lowkey genius. Most people just remember the score at the end of a review and use that to base their view on it, but having them all be 4/10 forces people to actually look at what Davvy was saying instead of focusing in on the score at the end. Great review, 4/10

Sunless Citidel is my favorite classic, mostly because I took the town that it's connected to and made it my starting point for my players. Making the surrounding forest full of Tree Blights - the seedlings that had been going missing. And made the Gulthias Tree the actual big bad with it's only ability being Charm Person. With the players either killing the 2 siblings and Druid, or setting them free to possibly be helpful later...
This video was amazing great info I give it a 4/10
Who's telling Davvy they just leaked the next adventure and it's set in the feywild?
Honestly amazing quality and super informative. I have been worried about running an adventure, but I think this video has helped me narrow it down. I think though that this video had some inconsistent scores and metrics, so it only is a 4/10 in my book.
At the end of Avernus, my bard had learned how to refine ethanol and convert the soul engines to internal combustion, and after escaping the hells and grabbing the fabricate spell, he begins his life as Henry Ford of baulders gate. Creative dms and players can do a lot even with linear storytelling. Solid 7/10 adventure for me, but i see your reasons Davvy
Davvy’s 4/10: exists YMS’s 6/10: “Finally, a worthy opponent; our battle shall be legendary!”
In respectful defence of OOTA it is very detailed when it comes to the cities and settlements, with lots of prewritten encounters and things to do in each, which a lot of the other books struggle with.
I am currently running Icewind Dale: Rime of tge Frostmaiden. It is the first D&D module I've ran and it does a good job at explaining player consequences for tge most part, with one or two exceptions. I love the horror aspect and the flow of the story overall. The first chapter let's the players get invested in Ten-towns.

He didn’t review Dragon of Icespire Peak from the essentials kit! Now I will go to my grave always wondering what score he would have given it.
I'd be interested to hear more about Davvy's dragon heist... just sayin
I've never actually run an official adventure. It's all homebrew.
davvy: who the hell plays the same adventure twice? me, on my second campaign of CoS: ...
As someone wanting to run some one-shots who has read Candlekeep cover to cover, I can assure you that I ALSO really wanna play these adventures. Solid 4/10
Wait, you can just flip to the page with the Battle of ancient cosmic destiny? I thought you had to listen to all 3albums in a row every time you wanted to listen to it...
You forgot Dragon of Icepire peak adventure from the essentials kit. Overall pretty decent video 4/10
Currently running Rime of the Frostmaiden. First ever time DMing and never been a player. It’s got enough substance to hold my hand where I need it, but there’s enough room for homebrew. Love it now, doubt I’ll stop loving it after trying other modules. I have Candlekeep and Strixhaven, would be interested in trying those out after we finish Frostmaiden.
God, literal bliss. Each sentence even uttered in this video sent waves of euphoria throughout my body. Using the word perfection to describe this video is an understatement. 4/10
In all my 17 years playing RPGs I have played ONE module that I thought was exceptional and requiers almost no fiddling with to work. "En Media Res" A Call of Cuthulu murder mystery one shot where everyone has amnesia and everyone is covered in blood. It literally starts "...and then all a of sudden" It has playtest notes that tell you how things can and have gone, it gives actual advice on how to run it. It puts the players in an interesting scenario lets the players explore and figure things out on their own. It is a masterpiece. 5/10
Speaking as someone without much in the way of creativity regarding homebrew campaigns, this video was quite helpful. Might try Descent into Avernus (skipping Baldur’s Gate, of course). Thanks for the recommendations, Tom Baker/David Tennant
I have so many more questions about your version of Dragon Heist, damn you Davvy for hanging the idea of a slice of life adventure, now I shall have to spend a lot of time to make it reality
clarification on icewind dale. You can start anywhere, except dougans hole. Never start in dougan's hole unless your dm has the experience to rebalance things.
this video was pretty good 4/10
Keep being a wonderful person Davvy 🥰 Happy pride!
I got spoiled by “Rime of the Frostmaiden”. What was my first time as a DM, hosting a one-shot, which turned into a fully-fledged campaign as the players transitioned into “Rime of the Frostmaiden”. …and I was treated to a great adventure filled with political intrigue, suspenseful thrills, and an over-arching sense of mystery. The adventure even let me flex my creative muscles; adding in my own plot points on top of the main story…one of my players ended up as the victim of an ongoing feud between Levistus & Asmodeus, for instance…while another player kept repeatedly having visions of the Frostmaiden, and ultimately became the mayor of one of the Ten-Towns. There was even a massive prison break storyline; the bulk of which wasn’t even in the book itself! Maybe it was the benefit of “Wizards of the Coast” refining everything from previously published books, but “Rime of the Frostmaiden” really removed my apprehension of being a DM, and has motivated me to construct new adventures with the same sense of tension & thrills. This adventure had personality; it really understood what it wanted to be, and left enough room for the DM and players to do the rest.
The xp to 3 shade. Was not expecting it but that was hilarious
Out of the Abyss is the best module because the idea of a sentient waifu lightsaber with crippling abandonment anxiety and fear of the dark is the best magical item concept in all of D&D.
ive been running descent into avernus with a group of 4 of us and the baldurs gate section can be a lot of fun, if you make it fun as a player. for instance instead of just going to the uppercity and taking on the vanthampur villa we decided to amass a mob of people who were trapped in the city to storm the villa and effectively begin a class war which now the town has to deal with in a natural way. also my character took the low lantern from amrik and now uses it as his party boat.
Love this video, great new perspectives, even those that I disagree with but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. 4/10
I'm very excited to hear that Davvy plays Waterdeep Heist the same way I DM it. It's perfect for slice of life simulation/take on all the factions.
The video is very well made, clear and fair; a little biased however that is reasonable considering what DnD is. Overall a pleasant video to watch: info is given with a bright sarcasm 4 / 10
At first I was mad at the rating system, but then I realized how subtly sublime it is in at being fair and balanced.
So advise im getting is that best possible way to have a campaign out of these is how would you tell the story.
Now I know what modules to steal from and never actually play the modules as intended!
I give this video a 4/10.
I love watching this channel and the wonderful atmosphere it provides as well as the fun and spicy takes, that said the host is mean to the ranger class, loves bards a bit much, and has a thing about fey creatures... I'd say it gets a solid 4/10
Dragon Heist we ran into some of the different villains a bit and one thin I desperately wanted to do was if we lost the Stone, we snitch on the other villains about who has it and get everyone to go after each other while we swipe it from under their noses. Sadly the DM phased everyone but the Drow gang out which I'm disappointed. Would have been really cool
One idea I had for Avernus that I never got to do is to start with Dragon Heist in Summer, go from that into Avernus and have the Cassalanterns come back seeking vengeance on the PCs.
I need a video breaking down your changes for dragon heist!
i kind of mitigated the "too hard to beat" parts of strahd by giving the party a few extra handy magic items here and there as well as by altering what the monsters did in these fights to not be so deadly when that wasnt enough. sometimes you dont need to do all that though because honestly my players always surprised me with their rolls an managed to come out alright without me having to hold back too much. I liked that because it made the extra items i gave them feel earned. the only fight i changed a TON was the fight with strahd at the end. having beaten several fights that were designed to be run from, they ended up a bit more powerful than what i felt the book had in mind and to keep the final fight from being anti-climactic, i changed strahd a bit. i gave him higher level spells, made him a shadow sorcerer because being a wizard made zero sense to me for strahd and changed hs spells a bit because he had seen how the party fights enough times to plan accordingly and know what they are coming at him with.
we've been tricked backstabbed and quite possibly bamboozled.
My friends and I are gonna play Frostmaiden VERY soon. We plan on building a train connecting the ten towns, a Polar Express if you will.

Another reason not to run the Baldur's Gate part of DiA. I joined the game about half way through the BG portion, with no idea what to expect later. From the BG, it seemed like a creepy horror of devils watching you, that you were helpless, and couldn't do anything to fight back, you just had to cling on. Theeeeeeeeen we reached Avernus and it turned into a Heavy Metal album. The tonal whiplash was intense!
excellent video, truly raising the bar on your presentation 4/10
I love Mad Mage. It’s certainly a roguelike, but god it’s so goofy I love it. The main villain feels like a DM WITHIN the world of d&d and it always makes me laugh
I'm glad another DM Shares my love for ToH. I here so much shit and horror stories about that dungeon, I assume because they players didn't know what it was going into it, but I found it really fun to play, and so did my players
Tomb of Annihilation has an island of dinosaurs, a lot of dinosaurs, including a magic Tyrannosaurus rex that teleports, sees invisible creatures, and exhales swarms of wasps. The dinosaurs alone make it a 10/10 for me, but King of Feathers just existing makes it a 12/10

I loved the idea of STK so I bought and was my second adventure to DM after LMoP. I still feel like I failed the adventure because the story and content that does exist is awesome but there is also a bunch of shit in between it.
