I remember him playing in France 1998 like it was yesterday. His goal scoring capabilities are still unmatched today 2023.

World class striker, goes up with best strikers of all time. Scored tons of goals on biggest stages, with unique elegance and class. Very few players in history managed to do that, and do it in that special way. A real joy to watch! Thank you for a video.

With todays media hype, Suker would be known like CR7 or Messi, more known then any croatian player today. Those skills of him, that ball control and killer instinct, a complete CF goal scoring machine. He wouldnt olay in Real Madrid or Arsenal or etc if he where not that good. But at those days, you had newspapers instead of fb and ig and tw and your skills wasnt seen on video as much as todays players.

For Croatia 69 games 45 goals,really good stats.

The most elegant striker ever, he just made the best goal keepers ridiculous on that time, i mean Schmeichel, Kopke, Barthez, Vandersar at this at very important and decisive games. My idol and one of the best left foot striker ever, killer, genious, dribling, ball control. The goal against Ireland at 92 min in Zagreb for 1-0 win is one of the most beautiful and difficult goal i ever seen in my life and he made it with so much grace. Davor Šuker and Ronaldo (real one) the best 2 strickers in my heart. Baptistuta and Bergkamp are in the line too.

@@youneskazzouh5138 you clueless ...apps count for something too ..Suker in La Liga scored almost 0.5 goals per game and he was not starter right away in Sevilla and especially in Madrid so compared to his minutes he was elite ..he did same in Yugoslavia which was easily top 8 league in Europe

The control in that goal against Ireland is sick, he basically traps the ball with one swift touch under his foot

Eee, ta izjava mu je bila legendarna. I bio u pravu; argentinci sa svojim prenapuhanim Batistutom la-pa-pa, a Vatreni na krilima Šukera u polufinale. A nije puno falilo ni do finala.

The reason I always support Croatia, after his performance in France1998. Although I was just a kid then, but that's the only name I still remember in that year!

His first touch was midas. Magic. Had a natural instinct of scoring goals. Also, the way finished says he's intelligent.

Goal against ireland was out of this world

Very underrated...this man along with Robert Prosinecki are the reason why i love and support Croatia always.. They deserved a better career tho

Oh Davor Suker, one of the best talents of the 90's wonderful Striker. Yugoslavia in 90's was an european Brazil, the balkans war killed the golden generation that won young world cup in Chile'87 and in Basketball was exactly the same history, a factory of cracks like Drazen Petrovic, Vlade Divac, Tony Kukoc...etc

He did it simple. He did it in very few touches. But he did it sooo beautiful. He always reminded me in some way basketball players from the old Yugoslavia, some past like Dalipagic and some more recent like Bodiroga or Danilovic. I think it is a question of the training methods, but in some way sports players from this ex-republic look like having repeated movements taken from handbooks for about million times. Each movement is so marked in Suker's case: how he steps on the ball to execute a dribbling, how he controls and shoots without the ball hitting the floor, how he describes a kind of swing when he shoots with some effect, even how he knows in which movement he has to shoot in front of the goalkeeper. It generates the illusion of being slow, but no, it is pure aesthetics by repetition. Thanks for the video.

Pure nostalgia! My football heart belongs to FC Porto. In the 96/97 season, Bobby Robson, José Mourinho, Vítor Baia moved from Porto to Barcelona, as well as Fernando Couto, also a huge FC Porto legend, who in that season moved from Parma to Barcelona. That year was also the first glimpse, to say the least, the world had of Ronaldo Nazário, my personal favourite of all time. Normally I would predictably support Barcelona, but that was also the year of the Euro 96 where Suker scored that wonderful chip shot (and he was actually offside when I believe Asanovic isolated Suker with a 30 meter pass). In that season, Real Madrid signed him as well as Mijatovic. They also had Seedorf, Roberto Carlos, Jarni (also a very talented left footed Croatian). That year I couldn't say wich team I liked better, regardless of the Porto-Barcelona connection. I was 14 years old. Really missed those days.
