It’s mid/ southern Europe. Eastern Europe is Russia, Ukraine, Estonia etc, some 2000 km away from countries like Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary etc.

Not a Croat, but this is one of those matches that will always be remembered.

Los croatas siempre han tenido grandes jugadores de futbol (antes cuando eran parte de Yugoslavia), merecen ser campeones del mundo y seguramente pronto lo serán, están condenados al éxito, pues en poco más de 20 años ya han sido dos veces terceros, mucho más que países con 100 años de historia y más tradición en fútbol.

@Branislav Stanisic this was a stupendously gifted Croatian team. My first enchantment with Croatian football up till today, crazily and seldom rated by the medias. Am I right to feel this team is more gifted / better than the one in Qatar?

2 years earlier, in England, we expected to win European title but we where robed in the quarterfinal against Germany, they later became champions. The name of the referee was Leif Sundell, from Sweden. This Croatian generation was on their peak than.

Two years earlier in European Cup Germany won with luck against Croatia in the semis. This match was a sweet revenge.

Albania 98 , after year 97 were everybody had guns and wapons , I remember after this performance of Croatia , everyone start shooting with AK47 in Scutari even though most of people are German fans

huh, as if their journey was any easy than this team... Croatia 2018 was one of the strongest team... not gonna lie. It is easy to say that they took all their games to extra time and what not... but remember the 2018 team defeated the Dutch, Russians, English, Argentina to finally reach the finals. Hell they defeated brazil this year.... all because they capitalized on defense and mid-feild this year their attack was poor all thanks to Manzukic leaving the team and NO one stood up to fill the hole he left in the team's offense

yes sadly. The last real German team was 2002 for me. it's never coming back and will now only get worse. Soon Germany will play France and 22 Africans will be on the field.

Croatia was robbed 1996. against Germany. So this was a revenge and reality. Croatia was stronger even from a junior time championship in Chile 1987. when Yugoslavia was stronger than Germany as well.

98 team was absolutely the best team we ever had till this day. Only lack of luck and slight mistake in game with France cost us the world cup. Im positive we would have beaten Brazil they suited our style of play much better with open attacking football and they were playing weaker that tournament they almost lost couple of games until finals. There would have been alot of goals in that final for sure. As much as the teams that brought us silver and bronze in 2018 and 2022 respectively were good they were only individual quality that carried us like Modric, Rakitic, Mandzukic meanwhile 80% of that 98 team were stacked with talent. It says alot when our player won the golden boot with every single possible goal imaginable Volley, penalty, feint you name it...

@@bbbccc9813 i agree with most of whhat you said however; i didnt feel like modric carried the team. The whole team was pretty solid overall. The 98 team had extremely talented players like suker, boban, prosinecki and a few others. Just a very well balanced team. With a little luck they could have won the world cup.

I was 11y old. One of my favorites wins of Croatia. Probably favorite. My father was telling me about Oliver Khan saying he said "we will go past small Croatia". And I remember him telling me .... We are small, he is right about that, and he should kept his mouth shut. Bcs son it is 11 against 11 on the pitch, but belive me that we would win even if we played 4M against 80M. We just won the war after years and years of fighting against 3d biggest army in the Europe. And in that game we were biggest outsiders ever. My father, as any other father was in the war. We were reffugies from our home living in Split for 4 years. I remember day we won the war. Biggest joy u can imagine is to finaly be free. And there was no way that some Khan just said what he just said. We belived we are invincible. We still do. When we won he gave me hand granade to throw it to celebrate while i was on his shoulders. And then my uncle came with two AKs and give one to my brother (one year older than me) and one to me. And we fired 30 bullets each. We asked so many times to let us shoot. They never did. They never talked about war either. But that day my strict father was in such a joy that he and my uncle let us shoot AKs and throw nades. Bcs neighbor kids had firecrackers they celebrated with. And we didnt. I think he was dissapointed in himself that he didnt think b4 game to get some to. So he probably tought himself "fuck it... u will remember this day.." It was only time in my life i ever held any gun or weapons in my hands. Such a good day.

Football was so much more beautiful in the past. Much more skill and less tactics

All 4 quarter finals were excellent (and very close), but Holland v Argentina was legendary. Italy v France 0:0 Brazil v Denmark 3:2 Holland v Argentina 2:1 (best match of the tournament, best goal of the tournament) Germany v Croatia 0:3 Germany were the better side until the red card, they still had that aura in those days where you'd think: yeah they're gonna win. This match played a part in crashing that aura, I never felt they had it since then.

I think thats a dumb thing to say "that the most capable footballers are always the forwards." Forwards are overhyped because people are too dumb to see what actually wins ,they only see the goals.
