    Great review. Just in watching this review I now understand some of the hidden things in Resolve on iPad that were not immediately apparent to me when I first installed it a few months ago. I do. lot of exploring and brute force learning on any new software that I get however that often leads to a wall of frustration if some important feature does not become clear to me. This video shed some light on some things . Thanks for sharing subbed your channel to check out more of your videos . Thanks again for sharing .

    Can you edit directly from an external drive? Then bring that drive over to a PC to continue the edit? The workflow would be. Capture video with mirrorless camera, somehow transfer files from the cameras SD card to an external SSD drive. Edit from the SSD drive. Once done have the ability to move that drive to a PC and continue the edit with the project files created on the ipad.

    Great review. Appreciate how thorough you are with these. Like you I prefer a large monitor for video editing, and while I am cool with using the iPad for photo editing, especially when on the road, I only use the iPad for editing short social media video like Reels or stories. There are rumors that Apple may port the MacOS to iPad. If they do we may see an even larger iPad, and apps like Final Cut Pro or Premiere finally migrate.

    Thanks Dean much appreciated. A larger iPad for work like this would be ideal, but that basically would turn the iPad into a hybrid MacBook which isn’t that bad of an idea. Perhaps that’s the game plan for the future

    what storage type do you have on the new 12.9? I'm looking to get a 12.9 but don't know if I should get the 1tb version for the extra 8gb of ram. I'll most likely be editing consistently on the pro 12.9 so would it help to get the 1tb for extra ram or is it not worth the extra price compared to the 128gb with external storage?

    Good assessment on this one. I am really enjoying the iPad version and working on a current project. The cut page and the speed editor is really good but I really think the color page and the pencil has been a great addition for me. I also think magic mask is great on the iPad. Also the studio version has clean video feed and not only does the HDMI work but I even can airplay to my Apple 4K TV box and display on it. But the iPad version is definitely not set up for some one to learn Resolve on.

    Great content. Quick question though. For a total newbie to video editing, would DaVinci Resolve for iPad be a great / practical way to get into it or would it be better to start off on the full computer version first before trying the iPad version?

  • @GeekCulture

    @GeekCulture

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for watching. I think the desktop option (can use the free version) would be a good start and then from there move over to the iPad. As mentioned the iPad isn’t the most intuitive from the start for newbies. Alternatively with the release of Apple’s Final Cut Pro for iPad that may be an option as well

    I see this as an add on for my workstation using Cloud project share. I have been rough editing in my car, hanging with family on couch or in kitchen etc then I open the project in my workstation and do all the detailed stuff. Not that I cannot do that on the Ipad but once I add keyboard, speed editor, 2nd monitor etc it basically becomes a MAcbook air. Not saying I do not do that also just that I think the case for the Ipad version is made when just using apple pencil or your fingers without anything else so you are truly mobile and that for me means rough edits. I can do all my cuts on it and do the rest at my proper editing workstation.

    @@GeekCulture hmm is export processor or media engine intensive? or more dependent on ssd speed? i might go with m2 with lower storage instead of m1 with higher storage then. m1 is tempting due to the recent discounts though. but intend to do video editing with resolve for ipad pro so maybe m2 is the way to go. larger storage doesn't make as much sense right now due to limitations with the usb-c performance and limitations right now, i think.

  • @GeekCulture

    The M2 chip is more efficient for exporting due to the design and features but if you aren’t in a rush then maxed out M1 is okay too. My recommendation is to go with higher storage as it adds more ram which would definitely help
