I played this at my Mom's funeral with my niece on vocals. She became too emotional to continue so I started singing as loud as I could as I had no mic, when all of a sudden, one by one, the entire congregation joined in and finished the song, getting every word right. Just an incredible moment for us and send off for our Mother.

recently lost my mother also thank you we never really lose someone when we hold them in our heart I recently met another woman that's in my heart love is definitely stronger than death. only by the death of Jesus do we find true forgiveness and love

A song from a son to his dad. As a dad of a son, there is no higher honor than to be acknowledged as a positive force for your replacement in the world.

The tears are flowing. David puts his heart on the line each time he performs. What an incredible song writer.

Evertime he sings that song you can feel the longing for wanting his father back again after he passed. Absolutely beautiful song...

This song always gets me choked up after a lifetime of hearing it. Such a pure voice after all these years.

🖐 Only learned the story behind the song November 2023. At the time of this posting, I found oneself listening to it and got emotionally moved -- couple of days before Father's Day 2024.

I love you dad. We listened to this riding in your 95 bronco going to the fishing hole. Cancer sucks and just know 55 was too young. I miss you. It hurts me to hear this music but sometimes I have to go back. Great song

Perfect from top to bottom. David's string arrangements have always been highly underrated. As for the lyrics, not a wasted line. The music doesn't bore us, it gets to the chorus. You could teach a songwriting clinic with this song. David Gates, the ultimate tunesmith and artist. The world's a beautiful place when I hear his music.

What I wouldn’t give to see David Gates return to a last live concert tour! We miss you David!

I've loved this song ever since I was a kid. I stumbled on this video tonight. Knowing my mom has only a few weeks left on this earth this song reduced me to tears in an instant.

Miss you Aunt Nina. My aunt lost her battle to ovarian cancer a year ago and we all miss her soo much! Bread was one of her favorite bands. Til we meet again aunt Nina!

I always feel emotional everytime I hear David Gates singing it, especially upon knowing that he dedicated this to his beloved father, you really moved me David!

Wow! I was 15 at the time when this song came out. I had a girlfriend at the time and she had all the Bread singles. We would lay on the couch together and listen to all the great songs of Bread. It was rather magical. Every time I listen to these great songs it brings me back. This performance is fantastic. Thank you David Gates!

The man is a treasure. One of the best song writers of the soft rock genre. David Gates still this marvel ou voice as he never over extended his vocals when younger. His natural range was where he sang and still sings. What a master.

So true. I only learned that a few weeks ago. My dad died in 1989 and mum 2 years ago. Love of parents is so different from romantic love (focused on for too many years.) I really would give up everyting to have my so loved parents back.

What is ABSOLUTELY terrible is the fact that David Gates & Bread are not in the music hall of fame! That should be a crime. He is extremely talented . He can play the Piano and a bunch of other instruments ! There are groups who made it into the Music Hall of fame that are not even close to being as good as David Gates!

This is one of my favourite songs ever. Love Bread, the first LP I bought was by them. A couple of years ago they performed in Cape Town, I went alone as no-one wanted to go with me. It was the most amazing concert ever, they sounded just the same all those years later
