It was written for a story (possibly a movie that didn't get made) written by Bjorn that possibly was to star Agnetha, and was, most likely, tailored for her, or at least in her honor, since Bjorn and Agnetha were married at the time (or soon would be). Bjorn also wrote (or cowrote) "Chess", about a global chess tournament and the song, "One night in Bangkok" for it, that was sung by Murray Head (video here on KZread).

Almost two years later I am going to rectify part of what I wrote Because I knew better the history of ABBA and in particular this song. "Thank you for the music" was composed as the initial part of a four-song mini-musical that ABBA premiered on their tour of Europe and Australia in 1977. The next songs were "I wonder (departure)" with the lead voice of Frida "I'm a marionette" with Frida and Agnetha as a duo "Get on (the carousell)" with Frida and Agnetha as a duo This last one was not recorded by ABBA, the other three are on "ABBA The Album" (1977) Upon returning from the tour, Agnetha became pregnant with her second child. In that state, and in a more forced physical position, she recorded this beautiful song (and also the others on the album) to which part of the lyrics was changed. At the time of this performance of ABBA on the UK BBC, before Christmas 1978, Agnetha and Björn were beginning their separation as a couple, while Frida and Benny had gotten married a few months before. Over time "Thank you for the music" became a popular ABBA anthem, it is one of their songs that they have performed the most. and Agnetha always stands out in each performance with a special shine in her eyes and gaze.

Stills sounds fantastic in 2020! How lucky have we all been to be part of this generation.

Anybody listening in 2020!. Yes even after 4 decades their songs are as popular as in the 70s and 80s. I'm one of their fans. Thank you Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny & Anni Frid for the music.

Apparently at least one of them found the adulation (especially in Australia) a little overpowering, and also it (the touring) took them away from their young child. But yes, having an appreciative audience must make one feel good.

How anyone can watch the first 45 seconds of this video and fail to fall in love with Agnetha is beyond me. She has such a beautiful face, so full of happy expression it seems damn near unbelievable. But that's Agnetha, happy as hell making other people happy. Sure, the other three are good-looking, Frida being a beauty, but look at Agnetha. She has a for-real expressive face that cannot be faked...and this video proves it. I love her, that's for sure!!!
