DAVID GATES (1971) - "It Don't Matter To Me" (In Concert at the BBC)

Музыка

Recorded 'Live in Concert' for the BBC, airing in the UK during January 1972. Although he was a member of BREAD at the time, this was a solo performance and neither Jimmy Griffin, Mike Botts nor Robb Royer made the journey across the Atlantic with him for this one...

I’m also 65. I’m listening to Bread songs because I’m really depressed. I for some reason need to be more sad. The group with the saddest songs are Bread. I choke up just listening to David Gates sing them. If I really want the works, it’s got to be Diary. The last verse rips my heart out every time. I’m going through that now after 37 years.

I’m so grateful and thankful for your voice and your amazing talent, you are a gift from the Lord above.❤️💞❤️💞❤️

1970: this remains my favorite Gates/Bread song. He wrote and arranged it twice; for the first group LP in 1969, and made it slower, lowered the key and added strings when they needed a second single to follow "Make It with You" in 1970. A master singer, songwriter, arranger and conductor. For Debbie; in my mind that room's still there for you, though I know you'll never return. Be at peace.

No playback, real orchestra, no auto-tune. Also lovely to see David not playing to the camera so much. As natural as can be. Gave me chills. I can honestly say they don't make 'em like they used to. Indeed, dear Sejrec56. That is a long-forgotten beauty of why a paying audience watch an artist performing live, as opposed to just listening to their CD ... or more appropriately ... vinyl single or LP.

Grew up in the 70s. I never discovered his work until now. I did hear the popular song from Bread that he wrote with Jimmy Griffin. But, when Meat Loaf passed is when I decided to look who Bread was. David Gates was and is the Bomb. A good family man didn't party all the time like industry people. The same wife, his childhood sweetheart. I respect that. He has an incredible catalogue as well. He's not the eccentric type and show savvy he's not. But,a genius Singer songwriter he is for sure. He is retired I heard. But, he is still with us do far for a reason.

It don't matter to me If you really feel that you need sometime to be free Time to go out searching for yourself Hoping to find, time to go to find And it don't matter to me If you take up with someone who's better than me 'Cause your happiness is all I want For you to find peace your piece of mind Lotta people have an ego hang-up 'Cause they want to be the only one How many came before it really doesn't matter Just as long as you're the last Everybody's moving on and try to find out What's been missing in the past It don't matter to me If your searching brings you back together with me 'Cause there'll always be an empty room waiting for you An open heart waiting for you, time is on my side 'Cause it don't matter to me It don't matter to me It don't matter to me It don't matter to me It don't matter to me 'Cause there'll always be, an empty room waiting for you An open heart waiting for you, time is on my side 'Cause it don't matter to me

Perfection Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s Bread had a short but amazing career with some amazing hits. David Gates was a great lyricist with a most remarkable voice I love this arrangement. As a folk guitarist back then he was a great inspiration to me.

I believed so much in this song when I was a kid....I tried to use the lyrics to get my parents back together...or, at least talking again. I distinctly remember my mum questioning me, "Do you think I haven't considered all of this before?" I felt a fool and so naive. What she said was true and what David Gates sang was also true.....to an extent. Relationships are more complex than a Bread song yet somehow.....not so beautiful. Gotta hand it to David here. Damn! I LOVE THIS SONG!!
