I don't think Dave Ellefson had such success outside MEGADETH, he has like 5 projects but none is very good, the biggest one is based fully on former band members and Megadeth music so... I think it's exactly other way here, it's Ellefson jealous if anything about Megadeth. I'm no hater of Dave I wish he was in the band, he is supreme bass player not only for Megadeth.

David and Dave have been through a LOT together. The kind of sniping they're doing in the press is like watching brothers go at each other. The fact that they keep talking about each other tells us that they are always on each other's minds. Like brothers. I can't say whether they will get together again, or not, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they do.

Mustaine would have to allow it which will probably not happen. I think Ellefson really wants to be in Megadeth. Hes touring with a small band that almost exclusively plays Megadeth covers. If I was Mustaine id be pissed. I dont agree with firing Ellefson but I also dont agree with him trying to make a seperate band that just makes money covering Megadeth songs...

I don't see him ever returning to the band. He's already proven to be the bigger man when it comes to moving on from the past while Mustaine still clings on to it. It doesn't matter if Ellefson's other projects are successful or not. It only matters that he's completely content on doing those projects and that he's able to have fun again and not feel so trapped.

I can't read Ellefson's mind, but I bet he's thinking back to all the debauched antics him and Dave got up to and going "Really? You fired me over that? That would have been a slow Tuesday on the road in '88."

Mustaine survived just fine without Ellefson before, he can do it again.

@@rooscochran1003 He is absolutely wrong. Batman doesn’t need a sidekick. He should’ve been grateful for just being there. Literally any bass player who knows how to play the instrument could have played that part. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time. His ego has been inflated on Batman’s talent. Yes, Batman has his faults. But that’s Batman’s problem. And those are things Batman has to deal with himself. When Robin goes into interviews and slams somebody else’s shortcomings, it only makes him look bad. But Batman doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone anymore. Robin needs to step up and be his own man. But I wish him luck playing in a Batman tribute band and hopefully he has stopped jerking it for 19 year old kids. Meanwhile Batman will continue being Batman.

Mentally exhausted and disgruntled with the world he tried to save by himself and failed to. Maybe Dave is headed down a similar path. Trying to be the Batman of his band. Only thing we're in agreement on is that David should stop shooting rocks out his glass house.

There's no denying that DE is a great bass player, if not one of the best, but I cant see them getting back together again. BUT, then again it already happened once, so who knows. Megadeths current line up is awesome and their latest release is awesome too 🤟

Marty's response to Dave in Japan about him, the band and his new lineup carries more weight than Junior's jab at the band. In case you don't know, it was very positive and he is very happy with the band's direction and it's lineup. I think a lot of people are. What junior did was juvenile and sad, which is sad to say and I don't know anyone that would accept that behavior. Dave already fired band members over drugs and suspected use of drugs, probably other underlying stuff as well, so why wouldn't he for this?

Lol. Mustaine didn't fire anyone over drugs except when it affected their performance as w Chuck Behler; he was a drug addict himself. Firstly he fired Chris Poland and Gar coz they pawned his gear to get drugs. Jeff was fired coz he claimed he was poking his g-friend which he denied (underlying complications over a love letter he found from Doro Pesch to Dave made him jealous and erratic, having pursued her to no avail). Marty left coz he just had enough of playing thrash and wanted to play other kinds of music. Nick was fired over lack of commitment. The others left of their own accord mainly over creative differences and not being allowed to contribute material. We all know about Junior's story. This is why Deth are just a one man band now with salaried members. It's a Dave Mustaine solo project with limited contributions from others. As for Junior doing what he did which was foolish and juvenile, it didn't warrant him being fired from the band he founded with Dave. It was the straw that broke the camel's back as like before he wasn't allowed to contribute as much material as he wanted which is why David has many projects he's involved with that allow him to do so now.

I'm not gay, but Jeff does have that kind of look that would be hired by Hollywood to play the hot dude and hero that women can't resist lol. It's a shame, my favourite Mega album is the one with Jeff. Love his solos. Marty Friedman is technically impressive but is very boring. His solo career does show that. By the way, the only thrash metal album with Marty is Rust in Peace.

Being an intelligent individual, I don't pick up senseless fights regarding musical tastes, which are highly subjective. In fact, the whole Megadeth-Friedman era, except for Rust in Peace, is a collection of boring, commercial, and easy listening radio-friendly rock albums. Which ended up in the pop-rock album Risk. Friedman was a terrible influence to Mustaine, so it seems. Because 21st century Megadeth went back to kick ass Metal albums.

In my view Ellefson an Mustaine were a dynamic duo they basically started Megadeth and despite leaving the band a few times only time will tell

I love Megadeth, I even have a Vic Rattlehead tattoo on my forearm, but damn those old bastids need to let shit go! 😆😆

Looking at the story of '21 and at the history of the band in general, I can't say that there is any possibility of David returning to the band. They probably have some very deep disagreements there. It's a shame that it all happened this way, but judge I definitely can not.

I’ve followed Megadeth since the mid-80’s. I’ve always bought everything and loved them from the start. I’ve sided with Dave on almost everything. But too me I’m on David’s side. I’m kinda upset Dave didn’t try to be cool with David.

This is a foolish position.. Mustaine was not only right to ask Ellefson to leave.. He did it in a very fair manner.. He has said nothing bad about Ellefson since he was asked to leave.. Ellefson on the other hand has been flip flopping constantly on his time in the band and his relationship with Mustaine.. Just listen to Ellefson would you want to be in a musical partnership with someone that acts this way?.. No. I think Mustaine is done with it.. He wants to ride Megadeth out and have fun doing it.. Not just grin for cameras and appearances he wants a strong creative force to work with.. Like Kiko.. Ellefson hasn’t brought good ideas what he brought was used on Super Collider… Nuff said.. Listen to Ellefsons stuff any of it since his exit or just before it and it’s very clear he is no longer on the Megadeth creative page.. He is around the 97-02 era of the band and sounding more hard rock than metal.. He isn’t bringing the cuts he was before and he doesn’t have the stage presence or engagement he did before.. Now I don’t wish to throw mud at him but he has acted very poorly and attempted to make this about Mustaine being a meany and it’s all his fault and not what Ellefson did.. Which is why he was asked to leave.. As well as the childish and entitled attitude he brought to the last albums creative process.. He has told us in his own words that he didn’t even speak to Dave or seek to get involved or present during the albums making for a year before being asked to leave.. That he went up.. Heard the sounds without his tracks or ideas included and just left and didn’t go back… Does that sound like a team player?.. Does that sound like someone you’d want in the band at this stage?.. No.. Ask I said.. Mustaine wants a real creative.. Someone how’s in it to make a name for themselves and be a part of a bigger legacy in their own right.. That Kiko and Dirk have done just that.. People don’t miss past members now because they’ve fit into the band so well and pushing it forward.. For Ellefson to diminish their work and involvement is dishonest and just disingenuous.. The band is as strong as when he was there.. LoMenzo was well liked by fans during his time there and his work on the two albums he was on was great and still some of the best bass work on a Megadeth album post 2000s.. The bass on the new album is awesome as well.. Far from sloppy or diminished it sounds good and the grooves thick.. This comes back to Ellefson suing Mustaine in 2004 for control over Megadeth Inc… Ellefson lost.. Twice.. And was forced to pay damages to Mustaine and Megadeth.. Mustaine moved on.. Fans however still wanted them to reunite despite all this stuff… So after 6 years they did.. And all was good for a while.. But clearly Ellefson harboured a grudge over it.. And has the whole time.. He has constantly complained about not being as in control as he was before.. How he can’t be pushing Megadeth because they don’t pay him enough in the off time.. That everyone basically did nothing and got nothing made because Mustaine wouldn’t let them.. He’s talked so much shit.. If it was so bad why stick around 11 years.. Why act like it was a brotherhood until your asked to leave for doing inappropriate things with young fans?.. This guy has told us he is a pastor and practicing Christian he has preached the word of god at Megadeth meet-and-greets.. That is a facade. His latest effort has been to accuse Mustaine of being jealous of him making music and that Mustaine has attacked his new projects… Mustaine has made zero comment regarding Ellefson new projects outside.. I wish him well in whatever he chooses to do. The only time he has rebuked Ellefsons nattering is when he said he had some parts in ‘a song on Super Collider’ that everyone liked but Mustaine wanted to remove and that he wasn’t happy with it being there.. Mustaine then said when asked about that.. The song is Kingmaker and it’s the first 20 seconds of the sound.. His issue with it is that the song is his.. He wrote it.. The song was completed and that Ellefson added the part at the front of Mustaines song without him present.. So he saw it as Ellefson seeking to take credit or obtain credits from things he didn’t do.. He also added that the part is stupid and has no connection to the song at all.. But he left it there to please Ellefson.. Rather different event when given the context.. Mustaine also encouraged Ellefson to sing a song on the new Megadeth album.. Until this all started to break down between them… To cap this off… One of Ellefsons new project Dieth has released their new album… On it is a song called ‘Heavy is the Crown’ in it the sound basically goes over how ‘Mustaine’ has lost his crown is afraid of death and is riddled with cancer…. Like… If it’s not clear to see who is the guilty party here at this point I don’t know what will.

god, I'm having a tough time choosing between Megadeth's latest and Dystopia. I thought Dystopia was great when it came out, then the new one came out and I picked it up. I thought it was better than Dystopia at first but now I'm maybe having second thoughts and re-evaluating. It's bigger in so many ways but was I taken in by the flash of Dave and Kiko's guitar playing and not recognizing that maybe the songs weren't the best? Well, I guess I'll just have to listen more for now. But I'd love to toss it to the fans. What do you think is better, Dystopia or The Sick, The Dying... and The Dead?

Both are great. I stopped comparing because both albums are solid. Dystopia is darker and heavier while TSTDATD sounds more like endgame. Fun and fast.

@@H.E.M. I just gave them both a re-listen. That was fun! I think I come down on the side of TSTDATD because it's a little more varied and quite a bit longer without succombing to filler. It's a big success for them although I do think it would've been better if Ellefson's basslines were kept. The bass that ended up on the final cut just sounds like they had some rando come in and play after learning from playback and that's not the way you cut bass in my opinion.

Megadeth is maybe the most criticised music artist in my opinion mainly because of the hate against Dave Mustaine. Most comments on him are not positive even though these people have never met him. Therefore they are unable to truly judge his music objectively. The fact of the matter is most of Megadeth's music is timeless, no song sounds really old and outdated. So assuming greatness is defined by how it stands today, then I would say they are one of the top music artists. Their new songs I also think are generally solid.

@@TheExtinctSpecies We get what we see and we see a lot of Dave b*tching about being ousted from Metallica. So, from what I understand, he had actually been fired before he was fired. He was fired for pouring beer on Ron McGovney's bass after James kicked his dog? Metallica strikes me as a band where whatever Lars says goes and so my guess is if he made that determination that day that's what went. But of course he must've gotten invited back because the more famous dismissal came later when it seems it was for becoming a maniac when he drank too much. Wait, isn't this alcoholica? How much was he drinking? I don't know, but there is no doubt that Mustaine had a major hand in writing Metallica's first three albums. That's actually undeniable. So when he broke out with Megadeth and played even more insane guitar- haha, clearly my head exploded. That's Dave, though, just these insane over-the-top riffs. Nobody does them bigger or better. Nobody.

My opinion is that Dystopia is better, TSTDATD is a bit thrashier tho with fast riffs but overall I am leaning towards Dystopia being better.

If they don’t ever play together again I hope that can at least be friends again. They have a lot of history with each other.

I miss Ellefson as Megadeth’s bassist, but I’m trying to enjoy his work with Dieth, also. Wouldn’t mind seeing Dave bring him back though

Dave has a very articulate and powerful mass style. Who ever replaced him now and before, I have no idea who he is and don't care. Dave has had it out for Dave since the lawsuit years ago. Dave says he doesn't hold grudges (Metallica/Jackson/Dave Lawsuit) but it's obvious he does and he is unable to move past any of them. Dave's new band is fun to listen to and I hope they can have some success as more than a Megadeth cover band. Megadeth's years are limited, Dave has earned his place in history and learn to forgive and move on, he has succeeded beyond all expectations.

Both will be fine, they have thousands of friends

Megadeth with David Ellefson has done just fine. The System Has Failed, United Abominations, and Endgame are all bangers. They need to actually play songs from those albums live. TSTDATD, like Dystopia, I really don’t have an opinion one way or the other. Both came out since I’ve been super busy (college and then working) and I’ve given each album maybe one full listen.

He may not be the best husband or guy to leave around your daughters, but the man can play that bass, that said, he's not coming back

Dystopia was awesome and the new record was good but not as good as Dystopia was. David brings a lot to the table when it comes to song writing.

Megadeth's days are. Dave mustaine admitted that he won't be able to sing like this for much longer. It's a shame, but without Ellefson, it's Dave mustaine and friends. Or should I say, employees

I've had issues with past Musicians, then later on worked with them again because it was like riding a bike. I am sure they will work together again sometime, and leave it in the past where it belongs.

Just remember who can’t stop talking about it… David Ellefson. Mustaine had every right to get rid of Ellefson (57 yrs old) for grooming an underage girl then waiting for the day she turned 18.

Think he should gather all former members that are still alive, and file a class action suit against mustaine/megadeth camp for their royalties back.

I agree but it's been that way for a bit. I think D.E. got kicked prematurely (I kid I kid). D.E. helped created Megadeth and now it seems it is Dave and the _________(insert band members name). I love the old Megadeth - and now the last few although great musically from the younger players it just seems like run of the mill metal. It's honestly Dave that seems to have issues with every person he works with. I do like D.E.'s new work. When are we going to get sick of Megadave..lmao for me never I will jam to his good older stuff till I die.

No need for a return, DE’s legacy with Megadeth is sealed. KOT has the potential to be successful but only if it is anchored with giving Megadeth fans what we want and do not get from Megadeth, the opportunity to experience the ignored catalogue. Davvid Ellefson seems like a genuinely good dude who made some mistakes but his situation didn't look good even though not illegal it could effect touring and ultimately he had to be let go he killed any chance he had in coming back to the band with the shit he's talking Kings of Thrash is cool but Mustaine is the primary writer on all those classic songs. Dieth is a decent death metal band but I don't think Mustaine is intimidated if Ellefson feels so much better now he should move on he is still having success own your past actions don't play the victim and act like you were blindsided by getting fired.

There's at least three good albums that exist now without ellefson so I can't agree with what he says. I love the guy, love him in megadeth and wish he still was. But he isn't. I think one day mustaine will admit his attitudes towards band members with hiring and firing will reveal itself to be be a deeply rooted psychological complex from that time he himself was fired from a certain band. I can see eleffson playing with mustaine again certainly. I'd like to see a literal mega-album before he hangs it up whereby he can agree terms with EVERYONE and get everyone who has EVER played and remains alive to contribute to an epic all conquering album 40 tracks long!

Doesn’t matter what Ellefson thinks. They are still selling tickets.

Ellefson should just stay where he's at with his new project. Yes he had a great run in the Megadeth, and is still to me a very important part of that organization. But that's Mustaine's baby. Always has and always will. He does need to let the music speak for itself. Him and Young have a great thing going.

I'd be beyond shocked if Ellefson was ever in md again. To the downhill comment, well if one can't perform songs off one's 1st 3 albums (okay they do play peace sells but not well) there may just be some validity in the comment. I for one am super happy I saw md twice in the 90's before it became the DM solo project.

They play peace sells fine (if is isn’t the start of touring because Dave doesn’t practice so he doesn’t play well the first couple shows) But they recently added Mechanix and In My Darkest Hour to the setlist

Bruh, I would have fired him too. Dude got caught doing some vile things. Makes your band look real bad. Ellefson is an amazing player, but some acts are straight up dealbreakers. Super embarrassing situation. He should just take the L and stop talking about it.

What vile things? He slept with an adult woman consensually and she secretly filmed it and leaked it on the internet. What was "vile" on David's part about that? I guess the "cheating on his wife" aspect, but that's not Dave's business.

I’ve been a fan since the 80s to me Megadeth is Dave and David. Though I believe they will never work together again and I don’t think Dave should have fired him but What Junior did was a bit foolish especially since he knows how Dave feels about marriage and family.

The only thing that has gone downhill is David Ellefson. Accept the fact that you’ve only been a sidekick your whole career and being in the right place at the right time is what you owe your success to. I challenge him to have a strong policy to never bring up Megadeth and never mention Dave Mustaine in all future interviews. I also challenge him to stop touring in a Dave Mustaine tribute band. Stand on your own 2 feet David and prove me wrong.

Just an embarrassing situation where two grown men in their fifties or whatever are bitter about their respective pasts and can't or don't want to seem to let it go. This shit is cringe worthy AF they're both elder statesmen of the metal scene, they should act like it and set a dignified and respectful example for the younger bands to follow.

As a bassist myself I'm glad James Lamenzo is the bassist for Megadeth I think he's a much better bassist. As far as being let go I don't know to much about the charges I originally heard it had to do with underage girls??? If that's the case it's Dave's band he has to make the call. Fortunately or unfortunately it's not the 70s or even 80s anymore so sex tapes or banging underage girls will bring alot of crap. By the way David is a good bassist I happen to prefer Lamenzo. Just my opinion.

Mustain has God now...hes no longer a smack head or thief.....he gets to be judge and jury over people now - yeah Ellefson made a mistake...he thought it was private, it wasn't ....im guessing junior could bury Mustain with what he knows from their past together though - just hope he takes the high ground and they get back together

I agree. And the band is worse without Junior. His basslines are iconic. All of Megadeth's best material feature Ellefson on bass.

The quality of Megadeth is going up, but Dave's live vocals is going down. That's what happens after you get neck surgery, followed by throat cancer, plus getting old. Dude is ... what? 62? Ellefson also does these little passive aggressive things ... after living and working together since 1985, you know that Junior knows how to press Mustaine's buttons. FOR EXAMPLE! Dave and Lars are tighter than most people realize. The guitarist of Armored Saint once made fun of Lars for his height, so Dave beat the guy up and broke his ankle. There are tons of pictures from '85, '86, all the way through the 90s ... of Dave and Lars hanging out, picking each other's nose, partying back stage, etc., and when Dave wanted to make more money, it was Lars that said, "You need to take more risks with your music!" So Dave called the 1999 album RISK. And guess what? RIGHT AFTER Ellefson was fired, he ran out and took pictures of hanging out with Lars. Why Lars? Because Ellefson knew it would piss off Mustaine. Petty. Passive aggressive. If Ellefson does that kind of stuff just to take little stabs at his former best friend, then that's the kind of person he is all the time. He cheats on his wife with 19 year old girls, who are younger that Mustaine's own daughter. He doesn't make good choices, but is careful to come out of things looking like a victim. That's the read I get from him.

Yap. I've always loved them together. MeGaDeth without Ellefson is lame. I think Mustaine knows it too. Such a classic case of old friends disputing over nothing.😪 Just sort it out guys and grow your legacy.

I don't know if Mustaine's pride will allow him to ever let Junior back in the band. Personally, I don't think Ellefson should ever return to Megadeth after the way he was treated. Why would he ever want to go back to that toxic relationship?

I always thought this was kind of shitty. All the issues Dave has had with drugs and alcohol over the years and he decides to protect his “image” instead of helping out his friend who has been in the band for a long time. You would figure Dave would be the last person to take care about woke politics.

This is getting old. David is trying to take a LOT more credit than he is due.

This is all nonsense what they're arguing over now. They are way past their prime and anything they do from this point forward is just to stay busy as they are aging. The best music that would ever come from these guys has already been released and Toured by them. Together or not there is never gonna be any new music from any of them that will compare to or ever top Peace Sells or Rust In Peace or Countdown To Extinction. The best of their musical career is behind them now. Moving forward is just them trying to stay busy. They can stay busy together or apart. I saw MegaDeth several times back in the day when Nick Menza was still alive and in the band along with Marty Friedman and Dave Ellefson. That was THE MEGADETH to see and hear. Now it's Dave Mustaine and some guys I never even heard of. Even if Dave Ellefson got back together with Mustaine then they'd have a 1/4 of the Band back together. Sure MegaDeth fans would come out to see them just for the memories but it'll never be the same as it once was. They're bickering over things now like 2 old men about to start hitting each other with their walkers. Which can happen when you spend too much time together with the same person. It's just ridiculous for them to argue like this at this stage of their careers.

The new Dieth material with Ellefson is better than recent Megadeth. Mustaine should be worried.

Ive hung out with David Ellefson a handful of times. Way cooler dude than Dave Mustaine. Fred and Willie their techs are the best amongst my favs Ive ever met
