David Cassidy - Come On Get Happy - 8/11/13 - Chicago

CHI-TOWN NIGHTS with Tj Superfan presents David Cassidy live in Chicago. In 1970, the Partridge Family made their debut on American television. It was a time when America chilled out from the stress of the turbulent '60s. The Partridge Family were a TV version of the late '60s and early '70s pop group family - The Cowsills. Similar to the Monkees, the Partridge Family were a band made for TV. Regardless, their songs are still timeless Americana. Come on get happy :)

It was just 4 years later that he died! Wow. In the midst of separation and divorce, lawyers and accountants banging down his door, his wife keeping his beloved son from him, unfortunately, I’d say by 60 he had started into heavy drinking so he gave not a bad performance in Chicago! I’m sure it was hard on his band to see him deteriorating. And I know he felt like hell with illnesses. He had his gallbladder out as a kid and it can wreak havoc on you not having it. I know. He had many other surgeries as well. Anyway, It seems no one was there for him when he needed them most! But at 63, depressed and an alcoholic with memory issues, only going downhill…he kept trying to get it together, smiling and joking, which should be commended. He was always a kind sympathetic old soul, mainly because as a vulnerable kid he was beaten and never got help for it. At 23 he spoke with quiet eloquence when interviewed, so no one knew in the beginning of his fame what he had gone through as a child. I’m sure a part of him raged about being beaten by the one person he respected the most. And I’m sure the way the entertainment industry mistreated him was galling to him as an accomplished performer. It’s only human to be mad and depressed, thinking you’re a winner but feeling like a loser. He did get help, supposedly during the dark times. He says he was isolated, but got therapy, alone, but had friends and got married. He really was quite busy in the latter 70s. Later in life he deflected the hurt and sensitivity from a questionable childhood with good humor and going with the flow. He looked fabulously handsome at 50 on The Arsenio Hall Show. 1990. A high point in his life, he had married again and finally became a father (though he had an illegitimate daughter that he acknowledged but admitted her father was the one who raised her). The great fall at age 25 from the top of the pop mountain, David could have easily become a Syd Barrett but David kept hanging in there starring on his own TV show, guest spots, stage work, musicals on Broadway and London, composed songs for himself and others (some at a very young age). Oh and he was the leading Las Vegas act in the 90s and created and produced a TV show and did the book for a stage show on the Rat Pack. Anyone who says he was a has-been by 24 and wasn’t a good singer, actor, brother, father, colleague, performer, guitarist, pianist, friend and son, who didn’t have an influence on a whole generation, didn’t know David at all. And if you see enough of his performances at least on TV, you can always see him wearing the family crest pinky ring. Jack, his father, gave it to him. That is showing true love through forgiveness. Jack Cassidy, ahem, is a whole other story.

I just finished reading David’s 2007 memoir, “Could It Be Forever?”. It was excellent, sad, funny, surprising and shocking. He WAS a good soul, too good for all the awful things that happened to him. But with the performance legacy he created and his being able to re-create himself, change with the times, then embrace his Partridge past, he made us happy. He was my first crush when I was 6 and I mourn his death even now. Such an incredible underrated talent. He is truly missed.

I wish you could have had a happier life,David. Fame and money does not make one happy. I wish you had a better relationship with your dad and a nice wife, who would have stood by you through thick and thin. I hope you get the unconditional love you needed in Heaven. +Molly Stalinista You are stuck in the past. You seem to be the type of "fan" who was referred to in the song "Garden Party" in which Rick Nelson lamented how people want to hold him to sticking only to the songs he sung as a much younger man and don't allow him to be more creative and produce new material. It has happened to a number of musical artists and it is the worst thing that "fans" do to their "idol," not allow him ( or her) to get out of a rut. I guess you feel let down by David because he does not keep you young by constantly only staying in the 70s. Time has to go forward.

It is very sad. I grew up watching the Partridges and reconnected with the show after David passed. Not only do I remember how much I wanted to be him (I actually think I was subconsciously modeling myself after him when I was in my late teens! LOL), but also just how good that show and its music made me feel. David had the type of natural charisma and charm back then that is extremely rare and spellbinding to watch. No one looked or sounded like him. To be sure, he had other successes on Broadway, etc., but he never fully embraced that image that originally made him so famous. Besides that, he was very talented. It is true that he only did one or two takes on his vocals, he was that prepared. And I don’t care what anyone says…those Partridge albums (and his early solo albums) sound great. Beautiful production, top notch studio musicians and songwriters.

David was so farahead of his time. That era early 70s did not have people like David performing he had that intangible something that set him above all other performers both as a songwriter and guitarist which he was not featured much on guitar. He should be jamming with eddie vh and Frampton instead he was marketed as a teen idol for millions of girls to be screaming over. Only as years went by and the late 80 and early 90scame in did he start to venture out and do his own thing. Even now David never got the true respect he rightly earned. How few even could grasp he selling out every seat 6 times in Australia. No one ever did it. I am still amazed by David casdidy his tenacious drive to pull himself out of financial ruin and build himself up once again. Im sorry he is gone I just wonder what new accomplishments he could have made 😔 😪 😊💝 truly a legend and a heart of gold.🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

Great info a lot of which I knew. When I think of him now I just feel sad for him. He did the best he could with his demons and kept on keepin' on. I so wish he could have had a more happy life from start to finish. Rest easy, David.

+Skyzze FinCham I never drank. I know most people have, so for them to condemn others who do is hypothetical.

Yeah in the end, age gets 100% of us. Some of the lucky ones hang on a little bit longer.. :)

He actually can play guitar. He should of went hard rock after Partridge. He had the pipes to be in a band like rainbow.

Is his hair red here or is it the lights? Just wondering. The music industry has changed SO much since the 70-90s ie the internet, at home recording, independent artists having the freedom they have then David really could have had a different career post PF. Now life after teen idol fame is not looked down upon as much. I'm thinking Harry Styles, Nick Jonas or Justin Timberlake. You can break out of that mold.

Sorry, dudes, but I laughed at the 4:40 mark when he points to the hottie to the left of the stage, and he shakes it as he heads towards the other guitar player and she doesn't give him a stare back. Sorry, kids, no mercy for his lifestyle. I've lost many friends to inner demons and in the end, it was their choice not to treat life as sacred.
