This is, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest country songs ever written….

There are so many other song's that I would put with this one. Angels Among Us by Alabama - Got To Stand For Something by Arron Tippin are just a few. It would be way to long of a list if I kept listing them - LoL

That line is true corvettes back then hade problems with the presets gm didn't fix it or no one reported it or they tried to correct the issue with later models but didn't work cept till later on like the 70s I think could be wrong
Great song, but tough song for me to listen to. I came home, and many did not. In the early part of my time in Vietnam, I went with a buddy to fix a phone line near the 15th Aerial Port, at Danang Air Base. A group of men were using forklifts to load Air Force C130s, and we wondered what the shiny boxes were on the pallets they were loading. Then we saw. Stacks and stack of aluminum caskets being shipped home, the bodies of young men, mostly. Just like us. I don't care if anyone "thanks me for my service" or not. I care that the sacrifices of those went before us were not in vain, and that we preserve and protect the ideals they fought for. Semper fi.

i know how you feel i lost some good friends in afgan and iraq some i went to basic with so we became good close so hearing about them being gone or actually watching one go its not easy. I do remember having to go to the VA about a year ago and i saw and old Nam vet so I thanked him and welcomed him home i could not believe it but he started crying and told me i was the first one outside the VA to welcome him home as he lost his family while he was in the war so he had nobody to come home to and even after all these years nobody thanked him or welcomed him home to me that's just sad. and semper fi you jarhead from a retired army soldier
Objectively the best song about a haunted car ever written.
Pure poetry. I don't often listen to Country music, because a lot of it sounds the same to me. But your poetry and music is so authentic. I cried and visualized the entire story as you sung it. A true balladeer. Sincerely Jayne and thank you.❤
I have never been able to listen to this song and not tear up. So many young men and women have sacrificed so much for us. They gave their all is not just a saying. They gave us OUR future by giving up everything they had and everything they were ever gonna have.. Most of them did that between the ages of: 18 to 25. Humbling.

I agree completely I don’t even know if I could hear the whole song without crying. I have listened to it three times in a row and still cried.Jus sain!
I bought a used 61 corvette when I got home from Nam, I wish I still had it. I couldn't afford the insurance so I had to sell it.
Still brings a tear to my eye, such an honest and true song. It hits home hard
So many of our young men didn't make it home & your song will always make me think of those that we have lost & the lives that they didn't get to live. Thank you for reminding us of the legacies they left behind.
I have served with many Pvt Malones. Bless all our fallen Brothers. Great song.

I have always loved this song and video. It wasn't until I got to watch this higher quality version that I was able to make out the emotion in the facial expression of Mrs. Malone's face near the end of the video when they go back to the scene of her as she's watching her son head off to war. Definite props to the actress who played her for being able to tug at my heartstrings in such a brief shot with nothing more than body language and facial expressions.

@@gordiesings my grandfather served this country.. he is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery.. in a town called Wellsville New York..ww2 vet.. I never met the man because he passed away when my mother was still young.. I wouldn't mind trying to find that man's military records.. unfortunately we're talking damn near 80 year old records.. I have no idea how much that would cost.. there is also a possibility that the man may have been Native American.. his name was Henry Lewis Fern like the plant.. I have no idea where to go
I'm not a big country fan but this is one of my favorite country songs. It always makes me tear up.
My pap pa who served in world War 2 passed away December 8th he was born in 1938 he's was an amazing man I was not his grandchild but he treated me as such and he never made me feel any different from his other real grandchildren

That math doesnt check out, if he was born in 38, he would have only been 7 when the war ended. unless he served for the germans.
Whenever I hear this song I get emotional because it wasn't to long ago I hugged my brother as he was sent to boot camp
Need to be played o. Radio now in 2022

Same story in Texas Panhandle, a 57 2 door Belair hardtop sitting, rusting and corroding away. The Father just can't bare to sell it. Was still there in 2014 when I retired.
Beautiful tribute for our men and women in uniform who never made it home. Thank you, Mr. Ball!

What a song
My favorite song ever.
My dad wanted a corvette back in the day but he couldn't afford one back in the day great song a guy i know has one but his is hardtop
God Bless the men and women who risk their lives for the rest of us even when they don't have to, and ease the pain of the friends and family left behind by those who have lost their lives protecting us. I am so happy to finally see this video in high quality again. Long gone are the days when I would catch it on CMT. The "saw a soldier pull me out" line still gives me chills and goosebumps.
I am really surprised that this masterpiece isn't played on loop continuously every Veterans Day.
I will always love that song 🎵

My favorite song. I love it. Listen to it all the time. I lived with a ghost in my apartment in Germany.
Your song is so touching
Imagine how the lady felt essentially giving away that car. There's no way that car was only worth $1000 to her. It has way more sentimental value then $1000 even if she didn't know the type of car it was her sons car. she waited for a long time to sell it and was probably reminded everytime she saw it in the barn
@gregrowe1168

I wonder if she felt so much sorrow over the car still being there that she just wanted it gone. But in real life, it wouldn't have simply sat there all that time. Some family member would ended up with it. It wouldn't have looked that nice after sitting for 30 years. Even not being driven and covered up, it was in a barn, not a climate controlled museum. There would have been a lot of rust.
KZread is good for something every once in a while you come across a little gem like this one ❤
Very beautiful song
Didn't there used to be different lyrics... "What a thrill I got when I sat behind the wheel" ? I remember he said: "I felt a little guilty as I counted out those bills, but she got what she wanted, and I got me a thrill." -- Anybody else remember it that way?
David Ball was a great artist. Great songs, golden voice and tremendous talent. David Ball is real country music.
It brought a tear to me eyes. One of the best songs I have ever heard.

Yes, he sure did.
Not really a country music guy, but I stumbled across this song during my Enclave run of the hoi4 mod Old World Blues. The story the song tells is excellent and it's one I'll sometimes switch to between the Conelrad broadcasts.
This might just be the most well-written song I’ve ever heard.
Beautiful!
Didn’t you once live on Hampton Drive in Spartanburg?
It would be nice to know who wrote this song and if it was a real Soldier or if it's just a made-up song. If it was written about a real Soldier and his car then it would be nice to see some of the proceeds go to help veterans that did make it home with a lot of scars
I wonder if this was based off a real story
I Agree
❤❤
Had the opportunity to welcome home a 101 YO veteran (in a red 63 corvette) to a special Veterans Day event last fall! Big highlight for him… Unity Field at Steel Freedom Ranch. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iYV9qKR9hbeel5s.htmlfeature=shared
