Dave always made holidays matter, especially at Xmas and with the Giant Meatball. The Thanksgiving pie guess was pure gold. Kudos to his great mother, she was always a trooper and warmed me heart.

Darlene Love at Christmas on David Letterman for 25yrs. A great tradition I miss.

The Barbara Gaines show never fails to deliver, this was the perfect T-giving gift, thank you.

Dave and the meatball and Jay Thomas and the Lone Ranger story were part of my own Christmas tradition because my mom worked nights as an RN at the VA. So Dave’s tradition was my tradition. I was sad when he left and really bummed when Jay Thomas died

This was always one of my favorite segments on The Late Show. Dave's Mom was always willing to play along with whatever Dave said or asked her. I especially liked it when she would open her refrigerator and reveal that it was full of beer for all the "drifters" that she was expecting.

I wish we knew Dave's Mom's secret to perfect crust. Lard is the classic ingredient for crust. Some ladies add vinegar but I'm not sure why. We all miss Dave's Mom.

The vinegar is to prevent gluten formation that would make a tough crust. Some people use lemon juice, and others used vodka with the same purpose..

The best part of the parade were the Mary, Barbara, and Dave balloons. They were amazing.

Dave can make even a pie tasting funny. Genius.

The difference between lard and Crisco is that lard is made from animal fat, while Crisco is shortening made from vegetable oil.

Crisco is the Proctor and Gamble brand name for it.

I had an Aunt that made that "Perfect" crust! I'm 72 years young and know from experiences older folks back then would NOT give out reciepes!!!! You could "Water Board" them, "Electric Shock", etc nothing would make them talk! Happy Thanksgiving!

Dave looks better than he did when he was doing the show. So many great Thanksgiving shows …always a treat to see Dave’s Mom… such a special show… I never watch late night or replays these days.

You can still buy lard almost anywhere. I've made 4 pies from scratch in my life and used lard each time. Took me about 4 hours each and they cost a fortune. But they were good. Now you can buy duck fat and beef fat at Wally world. Try cooking some french fries is duck fat. You're welcome. Happy holidays weirdos and weirdettes. :) 7:12 My guess pnt butter and chocolate.

I was just thinking about Dave's mom pie-guessing segment the other day and the upholstery farm kid is the best. The end of that kids' segments was with an adorable little black boy who makes the "na na na na" sound and then tells Dave "you are not funny" in a sing song voice. It's perfect. I also remember Dave cooking one year with Bryant Gumbel and taking a swig out of the brandy....

Very nice release to see this. Cute discussion. Dave gives his mother alot of credit. Did he cut down his beard? Looks alot better😊

Barbara Mary you are right this is a great show, don't listen to Dave. LOL

Some people think Norman Rockwell's "Freedom from Want" is the definitive picture of Thanksgiving, but I would put that second after any screencap of these three in this video. They may not be related, but you can't tell me that isn't a family.

If you go back far enough in Pie History, it was known as "The Neptune Pie" until the 🍫 🫕 choc/peanut butter embargo of the late 1800s. Dave probably let that slip accidentally.

I was tempted to make the joke of eating a hamburger for thanksgiving, because my mom wanted to go out to a restaurant this year, and when we got to the restaurant I remembered how when I was taken to Mexico on vacation as a teenager, I ended up eating hamburgers because I felt not so adventurous. The joke being related to here in Houston, TX in the 90s Tex Mex restaurants would have a kids menu typically with French fries, burgers or chicken tenders.

Better than current late night TV

Dave, I hope you'll have Darlene Love join you for a sit-down at Christmas time and looking forward to hearing her song Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) on your classic The Late Show.

We had our local Christmas parade last weekend. Seventy tractors pulled the floats. It was really cold but we all huddled together and had hot chocolate and cheered and hooted up a storm. Ten thousand people attended.

I have my Christmas Working Man’s Friend cheeseburger lunch scheduled for this Friday 12/22. It never disappoints!
