I find Mary's explicit indifference to be strangely attractive, as if she's channeling all the women I've known intimately over my long life, including my current wife. If Mary and I were a couple I can see a typical conversation with her: Me: Sweetie, I was just thinking about.... Mary: (interrupting with a dismissive "go away" hand wave) Yeah, whatever.

I highly recommend Barbara's Gaines Burgers! Your dog will love them, but humans find them tasty as well! Gaines Burgers, the canned dog food without the can.

Mary is quite adorbsablez and quite fetching; enjoy how she obv loves Dave and Barbara and is completely uncomfortable being on camera yet presses on. More Mary!

Dave seems much happier now than he was 20 years ago. I've been watching the Dave Letterman videos that were "writer's favorites". Why not have Letterman's former writers interview and reminisce with Dave? Thanks, GKennedy NYC

If one looks up the word "acerbic" in your Funk & Wagnalls, there is a photo of Mary. Iconic, is Mary, but also beloved. Often imitated; never duplicated is Mary. Mary is actually, Barbara Gaines' Svengali. The Wankel engine behind the Gaines' internet entertainment juggernaut is Mary. Yeah, Mary is alright.

I wonder if Barbara is at Burning Man. I was wondering if we could get either a lushly animated intro for the Barbara Gaines Show like the Pink Panther movies, or a really terrible one like Between 2 Ferns. And if Rupert could sit there sometime and he and Dave could sit and talk and roll cigarettes. I love how Mary hates being there and is so funny if she ever chooses to speak, but is also great just sitting there judging.

This is just speculation. Dave decision in 2000 to no longer rehearse anything could have been a factor. Viewer Mail and later CBS Mailbag gags could be relatively complex.
