Mayer is in a whole different universe than the rest of that band. Orianthi's tone is so processed and shallow, playing is almost mechanical. She even came in late.

I see how that can be a real issue. lol. But she was intentional. Her opening riff matched the transition to the iv. Other than that I agree she is not really a blues player and that tone is completely inappropriate. The blues really is a different skillset. JM today is really the man carrying that torch - with BB King gone and Eric Clapton gone soft.

See, I'm not so sure that's his signature. The sunburst sig has that tortoise shell pickguard on it, and it looks black to me. Like someone else said, though, it could just be one from his crazy big collection of guitars.

It is deffo his signature range. Headstock is not SRV Sig. Looks like the in repair guitar from Heart of life live at Nokia.

this has lots of soul, but Orianthi's tone is pretty abysmal on this cut

Before you all go crazy about John Mayer, just notice Orianthi was left out and John Mayer got too much room to play and didn't let Orianthi come forward. And mix of sound isn't perfect.
