i just started the art of bonsai a month ago and its a Fukien Tea tree. really learned a lot through the systemic balance and counterbalance you've expressed. really appreciate that systems thinking vocalization you've provided. thanks, Dave! :)

Just got a Fukien and it's my first. This video was quite helpful as I'm trying to figure out wtf it is I'm supposed to do next. I want to cut, but as a guy who had a hell of a time growing a beard (and loves his smoker), I know that patience is key. :)

This tree is pretty new to me too. The odd thing is after this trim, the tree has stopped growing. It might stay that way until I get it outside again this spring. I'll keep everyone updated.

Dave's Bonsai Same here still a little chilly yet here to put it outside. I was so excited when my Japanese red maple sapling I have been working on made it through the winter and is full of a lot more growth than last year when I purchased it from a discount store to try my hand at the bonsai art. It looked really rough last year. Now it finally looks like it’s more healthy.

Cool. After I cut mine, it's done exactly what it did last year in my plant room. Did not grow an inch. Since this video, not an inch. But I know it will come back to life in the summer outside.

Can I get help ..how long in leaves or length cm ect do I let new leaders grow before prunning ....to create a new leader and also busher ficus...atm my ficus has 4 main leaders at the top of classic s-bend bonsai..with 2 leaders comming of one branch...3 leaders comming of another branch...and 2 leaders comming remain 2 branch's. .thanks all

If the tree is healthy, you can cut most of the branches off completely or down to a couple of leaves. Some feel the longer you let it grow, the more girth you get at trunks bottom. Pick a branch you like and let that one with a few leaves on it and cut the others off if it doesn’t make the shape you desire,

What do you use for light inside

I've used grow lights by FEIT Electric (9w flood lights in reflector cans), also the UNIFUN full specrtrum light with the white/red/blue LEDs. I recently ordered another brand with bigger wattage from Roleadro (75w). I have noticed a difference with that larger watt system. Keep them 6-10 inches above plants

That I do not know. But my cats would ruin all my trees, so I have an indoor plant room to keep them away from my cats.
