Dave Mustaine on Cliff Burton, cancer, lip syncing and new Megadeth

Музыка

Legendary Megadeth founder Dave Mustaine joined Johnny Doom on a bench backstage at Download Festival 2022 for a chat about everything from their new album 'The Sick, The Dying… and The Dead!' being "really really aggressive", to Dave's recovery from cancer, his love for Cliff Burton's bass playing ability and his disdain for certain big bands who lip sync: "If you can play it live, you're being f---ing lazy!"... 👀

I was a driver for Megadeth once. I was warned that Dave can be a bit cranky and to watch my driving lol. Him and the other band members were super cool. He even thanked me for the ride which not many celebrity artists do. Thank YOU for decades of music Dave 🤘

I remember when I was a kid at a gas station/McDonald's stop or something on a backpacking trip with the scouts in the country and there was a big tour bus rv outside that was parked. We walked in and he was walking out going back. I didn't know Megadeth at the time, but when we left one of the kids was like.. that was Dave mustaine from Megadeth! I even remember the tallness and big gorgeous hair. Good memory. I have even see him live since, and it was a great show, of course.

Met him once after one of his gigs in the mid 90s when I was 12 or so. There was a food drive where if you donated enough canned goods you could meet the members of the band. There were a lot of people there and a lot of other artists could have just been hurrying to get through everyone and get out of there but he was gracious, super nice, and had a moment with each person. Even as a young kid that stood out to me. Great dude and still my single favorite metal musician of all time.

Well he probably didn't get radiation on his head but around his neck, so it's more likely that his beard is uneven. Kemo affects men different than women. I've been through the ringer and the fatique kemo brings is really a heavy experience. It's also hard on the teeth, so extra care must be on good dental hygiene onwards. FWIW

Dave Mustaine is one of my all time favorite persons, he has the x factor and he knows it. There is nothing wrong about that at all. I think most people downtalk him because of rumours and hearsay. They don't get the whole point as to why he does what he does. If you want to make it in this business, you kinda have to be hard, have an ego, and all this be nice to people does NOT cut it at all.. Stand your ground, do what you want to and don't care what others think about you and your music.

Just as Dave was going into a deep dive with what he means by "jazz influence" (a topic much debated online) and talking about "hits" and "sixteenth notes" the interviewer interrupts him with "you've always liked that, though." This was going to be one of Dave's most concise answers regarding what he means by "jazz influenced drummer" and he got cut off. Ugh

Dave Mustaine is not a humble guy. He is cool and very intelligent. Hes also friendly and can be very generous to people. Humble he is not. But he tells it like it is. I appreciate that. The world is full of too much BS. He is as real as you can get. Ive met the man and I dont mean a meet and greet. He was very cool to me and the small group of people attending this thing at his former house over the course of a weekend. We had a few conversations and I saw how he interacts with people. Class act does not begin to cover it. Good guy. Very good guy. Whats funny is I am not some fanboy type. I went to that thing on a lark because I can sing some of his stuff almost the same and I heard he was giving some time in his studio to record a song. So I went and he was really cool to me about it. He came in and listened and gave some pretty high praise which was most unexpected. Later, he and the band gave me a signed leather Megadeth jacket. No strings. It was cool and they were very gracious. Most celebs I know are not.
